DO NOT PAINT THE TRUCK, DO NOT PAINT THE TRUCK, DO NOT PAINT THE TRUCK!!!!! PATINA, PATINA, PATINA!!!!!!! 😅😅😅 only thing I'd add is to "fake patina" treat that roll pan to match the rest of the truck. The black looks off from the rest and you can treat it already installed. Awesome job as usual!
This is absolutely next level, Austin. That wood is NEVER something I would have expected for this build, but what an amazing result! You are a great example of what someone can accomplish with less than ideal tools, a little ingenuity and an outstanding attitude when it comes to doing things the right way. Incredible work man. The only thing I'd suggest is that if you havent done so already, pull the wood out one last time and seal the floor. Rust reformer, POR15, Duplicolor rust fix, etc...they won't stop the rust completely but they'll help keep it from getting any worse for a while - and being concealed under the wood, you won't lose any of that visible patina you're going for.
Great idea for an old truck Fyi I would think about using an old bike tube or flexible hose to put on the chains on the tailgate or else they make a racket going down the road the old school trucks used to have those on the chains the bed turned out awesome well done 👍
Premium build my dude. Don’t give in on the people howling about a paint job. This is the perfect balance between refined precision and rustic patina. It makes the build very unique. Plus you will never have to worry about those tailgate chains scratching the bed :)
Absolutely love the look of the truck! The shiny bolts in the wood could have been a little more darker. Maybe sandblasted and the blue liquid that turns them black.
That looks great! Awesome video and such a cool old Toyota! The wood turned out great! I searched videos about diy wood bed floor and yours was one that caught my eye. (Mainly the Toyota) I'm really considering doing this to my '04 Tundra. I have some rust in the bed floor and don't really want to patch weld it all. There's so many holes. Outside of my truck is excellent and solid. I think a wood floor would look great and hide the ugly floor. Great video!
Looks great! I really hope you do something with the outside of the truck. That bed, interior, wheels, engine bay, and chassis/suspension looks so good that exterior just seems wrong to leave all banged up and rusted looking
Adding weight to the back(within reason) just helps with 50/50 balance. Spot on work brother. You’re doing it up right! Minus the wheels(I’ll keep hating em til they get browned, lol) But seriously, everything’s perfect. Seriously.
Barnwood bed with the old truck would be sick basically how it looks already but I'd leave more of the texture of the wood just lightly sand it and stain it looks amazing
Been watching this build from the beginning, absolutely love it. That wood bed look awesome and it's great you reused that old lumber. The patina look is awesome!! I had a couple of Toyota trucks back in the day, including one just like that. Great trucks, Toyotas rule!!
Austin, do yourself a favor, go back and either loctite those nuts or use Nylock nuts. There is more vibration than you think back there and those nuts will back off, even with a spot lock washer. Personally I would have colored those carriage bolt heads, but that's just me.
Looks Very nice! I am just worried about the surface tension holding water between the wood and the steel bed... Might be problematic over the longer term..
Should have treated the rust. With the weather you have it’s gonna be bad. You sell the other truck? Haven’t seen it lately. It is why I got hooked on your channel.n
You’ll need to put a cut bicycle tire tube over those tailgate chains because they’ll rattle so bad you’ll want to murder em. Lol. Minitrucks rule!!! I have a 4wd bodied 84’ std cab short bed on some old Skool TSW Hockenheim R wheels. 🤙🏼💯
so im somewhat confused ive been watching your build of this truck but why haven't you sorted the bodywork yet its a bit like the film "Christine" where he puts new wipers on a cracked window screen .. or are you leaving the bodywork beat up ?
Me encanto tu video felicidades, tengo una pick up 1981 toyota y he querido ponerle el piso de madera gracias por tu idea. Las luces traseras son de ese modelo? Saludos desde Leon Guanajuato Mexico
I know you said you wouldn't paint it, and you shouldn't, but with that wood bed it is screaming for a full tailgate Mexican sunset mural. Hahahahah. Looking good.
DO NOT PAINT THE TRUCK, DO NOT PAINT THE TRUCK, DO NOT PAINT THE TRUCK!!!!!
PATINA, PATINA, PATINA!!!!!!! 😅😅😅

First time I see Austin fixing something by kicking it hahaha
Andrew Camarata style 😂
Yeah I loved the kicking also. Lol
Painting the truck plus wooden truckbeds looks good and more classic looks
Great idea for an old truck Fyi I would think about using an old bike tube or flexible hose to put on the chains on the tailgate or else they make a racket going down the road the old school trucks used to have those on the chains the bed turned out awesome well done 👍
Good idea, or maybe some larger gauge shrink tubing.
If it doesn't fit... Kick that SOB!!! What a great looking mini truck. Out standing work on the bed.
Premium build my dude. Don’t give in on the people howling about a paint job. This is the perfect balance between refined precision and rustic patina. It makes the build very unique. Plus you will never have to worry about those tailgate chains scratching the bed :)

You did one of the best restoration I have seen, bit disappointed by not treating the bed before placing wood on it 😢
That's a good Ole' fashioned hot rod! Love it
Looks awesome, should have ceracoated the bolts the same color as the valve cover. Keep up the good work
Impecable trabajo, muy bueno!!! Un saludo desde Argentina!!!
Hello from Michigan I absolutely love the wood floorl in the box.
Amazing work I can’t stop watching your channel 👍 No short cuts and perfect quality
I'd paint the tray under the wood just for piece of mind.
I think the wood would look good on the back of the tailgate too.
I totally agree with ya on both points
That wood will trap moisture and the bed, will rust away, if u like the patina I would at least clear coat the bed under the wood.
Was just going to say
The wood japans perfection as the brand, congratulations
Good Job Friend. Greetings from Venezuela................
Looks great! I really hope you do something with the outside of the truck. That bed, interior, wheels, engine bay, and chassis/suspension looks so good that exterior just seems wrong to leave all banged up and rusted looking
Seems wrong to you, not to him and thousands of other followers
Black trim to cover the seams would be the business.

Top notch on the boot panel beating! Love it😁
That looks great man

Austin wow you are a manufacturing machine now you go and pull out carpentry skills 👏
Came out great. Lots of attention to detail.
That wood looks sooo good!
Love the super accurate "just kick it in" technique! 😆 Awesome work as always!
as always.... you truly do master craftsman level work. I love the theme of this build.
Keep up the good work your doing...
I have a Nissan hardbody, this is what I want to do to it. Thanks for your very awesome video man! Good job 😎
يجمع الاتربة والأوساخ تحته الخشب ويسرع في الصدأ
بس حلو 👏🏻
The wooden bed looks great! Excellent job! Better slap it one more time to make sure it stays put 😂.
I liked the edits and style of this video 🤙
Put mountain bike tubes over the chains to quiet them down. ;)
We used old garden hose back in the day.
Great job! Looks awesome!
Bed looks awesome mate! One suggestion would be painting those chains a matte black to someone follow the burnt timber look :) Keep it up mate!
You're such a builder
Bed looks great!

seems right to me to have a beater truck to rip around
Looks killer
usually I speed up RUclips videos by 1.5x or 2x but for this I was 1x
Awesome !!!
that wood bed looks and fits perfectly 💯👌
Looks great Austin. Keep that sleeper look.
Man I’m so glad you did this.
This dude a menace the way he use some of them tools💀💀
As tábuas de madeira, ficaram excelentes 👏👏👏

ما هي مهنتك بالفعل كل شي تجيد عمله بشكل رائع
The bed looks great
diggin it...good look...keep on keepin on brother
Looks Very nice! I am just worried about the surface tension holding water between the wood and the steel bed... Might be problematic over the longer term..
Good to see you and your other half share the same passion. Unlike women here in my country. 🇧🇮
Love yr videos. If u make it, I will always watch it.
Looks awesome 👍
Not intending to do a perfect job but turns out better than my floorboards in my house!
did you make drainage holes in tha steel bed? unless you keep rain off it its going to pool on th e bed underneth the wood
Looks good
Looking good man
Nice work 💙 👍
Looks awesome. Was curious what the gray plastic around the taillights is for though?
It's the tail light housing. He installed new ones a few episodes back. I personally think they need to be at least painted black
@@unclejesse88 oh. Thanks. Yeah, I agree 👍
Beautiful work.
What about the hole you cut in the floor of the bed? Any chance the suspension will hit the wood and crack it?
I think you have to use badliner that is going to protect and look great
Should have treated the rust. With the weather you have it’s gonna be bad. You sell the other truck? Haven’t seen it lately. It is why I got hooked on your channel.n
I would paint the inside of the bed gloss white to go along with the engine bay and flat clear the rest of the truck.
I would put some rust converter on the metal floor, otherwise it is just going to rot.
Love it!
I like the back side best
Me encanto tu video felicidades, tengo una pick up 1981 toyota y he querido ponerle el piso de madera gracias por tu idea. Las luces traseras son de ese modelo? Saludos desde Leon Guanajuato Mexico
We are waiting to see the paintwork
Digging it! 😎
Did you need to drop the tank to bolt the wood down
Hello, why you ditent remove the rust before you put the boards ??????????
looks really nice but You could atleast paint the bed with primer just sugestion,,,
So freaking sweet dude, great work!👌🏼
Ok… Now you have to paint the truck!
Don't paint it
he's not planning on painting it.
He said something before about the truck being a rat rod.
We know he said it won't be painted, but some of us are waiting a change of mind.
No paint. Trucks perfect. Minus the wheels. Lmao
How bout the rust on the bed?
Impressive!
Very nice indeed!
So powerful kicks 🤣💪💪
Perfect.. 😎👍
Remove the tailgate and make some channels on the inside to slide some of the same wood in and write the words tailgate on it.
Heat treated wood is rot resistant.
Btw, I guess your ancestors were Finns from Ostrobothnia, Niemelä is the Finnish way to write your surname.
Most excellent.
buen trabajo
What kind of wood did you use?
nice!!!!!
I know you said you wouldn't paint it, and you shouldn't, but with that wood bed it is screaming for a full tailgate Mexican sunset mural. Hahahahah. Looking good.
Dope
I’m going to raptor line mine looking good tho
Nice 🎉
I know you said you are not going to paint it but you have to it’s a nice truck
Доброго здоров'я привіт з Одеси Україна. Дякуємо за вашу працю!
Can I put a wood bed on my 04 Silverado 2500hd?
At first I thought you were using banana wood then I realized your camera was bending everything.
I like how it look you me a idea 💡 to that to my 1988 4x4 toyota pickup
Cut the old box bottom out so the wood doesn't rot.
