Hello dear! Wonderful tutorial. I'm working on a Slytherin scarf for my little guys birthday (how two Hufflepuffs made a Slytherin is beyond me 😆). In regards to the two different styles; directors changed for the third movie and there was a lot of redesign. The scarfs weren't the only change, robes and ties did, too. We can see that Ginny, a second year, is wearing the new style tie, so it's nothing to do woth upper/lower years, just new people in charge mixing the pot. I guess that if we want to make it head canon; Hogwarts issued new uniform guidlines and provided new scarfs as part of the change.
Ahhhh this is so informative. Thank you! i couldn’t find anything definitive on the scarf change, so just deferred to the fan forums as they seem to be the most passionate/in-the-know. Also, congrats on having a Slytherin in the family! They get a bad rep, but all the Slytherin I know are awesome!

The way I learned to knit and hold the knitting sticks is so different from how you're doing it I had trouble following but your explanations are great and I could follow just fine because of that! Now I wanna make this scarf it looks so fun!
I'm currently knitting the scarf, but I made changes. Since watching the movies, I noticed that her pattern doesn't match the movie scarves well. I recommend you do 15cm blocks -> 4 rows of the thin colour -> 6 rows of the block colour, and repeat. So for Ravenclaws, it's 15cm blue -> 4 rows bronze -> 6 rows blue -> 4 rows bronze and repeat. The 10cm block is way too little, and putting a 6 row distance between the thin colours resembles the movie scarves better. Also, buy ~350 grams of the main colour, 100g of the thin colour should be enough. 10cm= 4 inches, so 15cm = 6 inches
i'm so scared to start this... 47 stitches in the first row,?? man... this is my first project, I'll comment my progress and mistakes here haha... day 0: all these new techniques?? what is happening, sth is very wrong day 1: okay I'm four rows in, this is definitely not the way to do it. time to restart.... turns out I forgot to switch the yarn from front-back depending on the stitch,,, wow this just got a lot easier and more fluid :D
Thanks for this!! ❤ Could you do a “Harry potter Knitting series”? Throughout the movies there are a lot of great knitting pieces (the weasleys beanies or hats, scarfs, sweaters) mainly because the Weasley mom is a knitter in the movies! ….. There’s also Hermionie’s hat and the famous Ron Weasley “Animal cracker” beanie from Prisioner of Azkaban…. It would be fantastic! In the mean time, thanks a lot for this! I’m an expert crocheter but only a beginning knitter and I will try and as a loyal Potter fan, I’ll try to make this scarf! ❤❤❤
Thank you for this video! I've recently started knitting a simple scarf which I am nearly done with and I was thinking of knitting a Ravenclaw scarf next. ❤
2 Slytherins a Ravenclaw and a Hufflepuff. This will be my first attempt at knitting. I got twice the amount of wool needed for each scarf. Then the cashier told me it was a 50% off sale. Sooooo now I have all my needles and 60 balls of wool in different colours. I haven’t even cast on yet and I’m exhibiting hoarding behaviour. I think I’m doing it right.
I’m so excited because I wanted to knit a scarf for my winter project (oh, those long, dreary days of January.....) and this was perfect. You earned a new subscriber! 😄🎉🎉
Just finished my Ravenclaw scarf as a surprise birthday gift for my best friend and I gotta say I'm pretty proud since it is my second knitting project ever. Thank you so so much for this tutorial!!!
(Leaving this comment so that I don't give up on the project and actually, y'know, finish it) I've been wanting to knit this for months, and I've finally done it. Honestly, it turned out a lot better than I expected. Since this was my first real project---that is, I wasn't just knitting it for practice---I was worried it would look like a kindergartner made it, but it's actually really good. I feel so much more confident now, and the fact that this video was really easy to follow definitely helped with that. Tysm from a (hopefully) budding knitter
I can’t get past the first slip 1 knitwise and i have no idea why ): i followed your long tail cast on too and i don’t know what im doing wrong someone help
I made my house scarf almost two years ago wow. I think it looks cooler and more professional if it's even all the way around, so I did it with a circular needle. Like it was a long sock pretty much. I did the one with two skinny stripes. (Hmm, so how Newt's scarf is the big patter type. Did he get expelled? I don't remember even though I watched the movie lol.)
I'm making this scarf now with a self striping yarn. Can't wait to see the results. Looks like I will make many scarves with this pattern and gift them to friends and family for Christmas. Thank you for this tutorial! 🧡
I've just finished one for my friend! Ive made it about twice the size because he is a pretty tall guy and didn't want the scarf to look funny, I feel like I could have made 3 sweaters with it :-D
Hi! One question, how do you always keep your edges tight? Mine looks neat but every time I get to the edge (last stitch), the stitch itself always look so big and loose. Please help! 😭
@Alex Willemburg hey! Thanks for your tip, it's worked for me~ 😊 edge loops aren't huge anymore. Although, I have to practice knitting with less tension cause I keep pulling stitches and dropping them off the needle. 😅
For the fringe and make it easier on yourself. Just fold the yarn threads roughly same size, and then cut the thread and cut into the loops, and use a crochet hook to pull the threads through the scarf (WAY EASIER). Then once you have all the tassel's on, then trim the fringe. BOOM! Easy!
I got a problem. I bought the yarn for making a Ravenclaw scarf because according to a few different quizzes I could be a Ravenclaw. But now after buying the yarn I did the official Pottermore quiz and was sorted into Hufflepuff which indeed probably resembles me better than Ravenclaw if I'm being honest. I want to make my scarf with the colors of my house but idk which one to choose, cause I like the colors of Ravenclaw better but I am really a Hufflepuff. Advice and opinions anyone?
I don't know if anyone would see this but I have a question. I have the right needle, I have that right amount of stitches. I just finished the first color change. The bottom of the work is wider than the stiches on the needle. I have tried this 3 times and it just gets bigger, not smaller. The bottom row is 9". Maybe a smaller needle?
Not me just starting to learn to knit and trying to do this to make my husband a scarf. I love crochet. I suck at patterns. I really want to make house sweaters for my kids and him. But trying something basic first 😅
Hey I don’t know if you reply to comments but I got a question so if you do that’d be helpful, I’m knitting my first scarf and my mom actually did the beginning for me but the number of stitches she did are even, so it’s the same at the beginning of every row, also I’m not sure if it’s the exact same style as the one you used, my language is Persian so we call it a front stitch and a back stitch, it looks like this I think, like braided hair. So I was wondering if I could put in even number of stitches if this is the same style? Or is this a different style that requires an odd number of stitches?
Sheep & Stitch, I need your help. I’m doing this scarf and one edge is perfect and neat and the other is messy and loose. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. Could you advise please?
I’m trying to knit something right now with stripes but when I change colors I have a single stripe on the backside. How did you keep this from happening?
Thank you for your clear, precise instructions, I really appreciate you speaking slowly and your attention to detail. I'm looking forward to making this scarf for a few Hogwarts fans.
Do you have a tutorial for how to remove rows? I got distracted and knit ten rows instead of four, forgetting to color join for the second block. I’m not sure how to do this with the knit one purl one pattern. Thanks.
I'm knitting a Ravenclaw one for my son (dark blue and mustard stripes). I am better at crocheting than knitting and I was looking for a tutorial for an easy stitch, one that thought me how to change colours and also one on how to place the different colour blocks in the scarf, so I was prepared to go thorough dozens of tutorials but this is just what I was looking for. It' got everythig I need to know and was looking for and it is so well explained and so thorough that I'm sure I can make it too. You have a gift for teaching and you are also fun to listen to. You have found yourself a new follower :-)

The 10cm block is way too little, and putting a 6 row distance between the thin colours resembles the movie scarves better. Also, buy ~350 grams of the main colour, 100g of the thin colour should be enough. 10cm= 4 inches, so 15cm = 6 inches
I made first ever scarf!!! And it's beautiful, all thanks to you and your brilliant tutorials.
A proud Ravenclaw
I started in August 2020 and just finished it July 2024, but i'm really happy
Wooo Hoooo!!!!
i'm so scared to start this... 47 stitches in the first row,?? man... this is my first project, I'll comment my progress and mistakes here haha...
day 0: all these new techniques?? what is happening, sth is very wrong
day 1: okay I'm four rows in, this is definitely not the way to do it. time to restart.... turns out I forgot to switch the yarn from front-back depending on the stitch,,, wow this just got a lot easier and more fluid :D
That’s a great idea! I need to look up the “animal cracker” beanie. I haven’t heard of that one!
@@sheepandstitch That’s amazing! 🥳🥳✨✨✨
Thank you for this video! I've recently started knitting a simple scarf which I am nearly done with and I was thinking of knitting a Ravenclaw scarf next. ❤
It's been months and I've finally finished mine 💙(insert bronze heart emoji) 💙
Haw many gr of yarn did you used?
im not a muggle im leaving
Can anyone tell me how long does it take to knit this? And how many meters of yarn would i need?
2 Slytherins a Ravenclaw and a Hufflepuff. This will be my first attempt at knitting. I got twice the amount of wool needed for each scarf. Then the cashier told me it was a 50% off sale. Sooooo now I have all my needles and 60 balls of wool in different colours. I haven’t even cast on yet and I’m exhibiting hoarding behaviour. I think I’m doing it right.
60 balls?! That’s amazing! You’ll be a pro at knitting hogwarts scarves! Happy knitting!
I’m so excited because I wanted to knit a scarf for my winter project (oh, those long, dreary days of January.....) and this was perfect.
You earned a new subscriber! 😄🎉🎉
OMG I have been wanting to do this for years but never knew hoW THANK YOU
Just finished my Ravenclaw scarf as a surprise birthday gift for my best friend and I gotta say I'm pretty proud since it is my second knitting project ever. Thank you so so much for this tutorial!!!
DEAR PEOPLE WHO USE INCHES, SCREW YOU FOR MAKING ME LEARN MY 2.5 TIMES TABLES.
x All the love, a user of the Metric system
I bought a tape measure with centimeters on one side and inches on the other, makes the whole thing much easier
(Leaving this comment so that I don't give up on the project and actually, y'know, finish it)
I've been wanting to knit this for months, and I've finally done it.
Beautiful. How many inches is every yellow block? Missing that data for different kind of wool and needles. 4 rows might not work the same. Thanks
my god i am so glad i came across this!!!
ahhhhhhh!! eeeeeeekkkkk!!!!!!
wanna knit a slytherin one
Do you have a blog? Or the step by step written?
I can’t get past the first slip 1 knitwise and i have no idea why ): i followed your long tail cast on too and i don’t know what im doing wrong someone help
I made my house scarf almost two years ago wow. I think it looks cooler and more professional if it's even all the way around, so I did it with a circular needle. Like it was a long sock pretty much. I did the one with two skinny stripes.
(Hmm, so how Newt's scarf is the big patter type. Did he get expelled? I don't remember even though I watched the movie lol.)
He did enter Hogwarts some years before our beloves trio. I guess the "fashion" over at Hogwarts changed over the years :)
I just know that Molly is proud of us for trying.
D
I'm making this scarf now with a self striping yarn. Can't wait to see the results. Looks like I will make many scarves with this pattern and gift them to friends and family for Christmas. Thank you for this tutorial! 🧡
Bcz I’m using the thumb cast on, I knit every stitch on the 1st row
Instead of doing the thin yellow rows could I make them thicker? I like the scarf in the first movie
Yes of course you can make thicker stripes.
MY BRAINS CANNOT PROCESS THIS FML
Can you make a Winnie the Pooh scarf please
Hi! How long does it take you to knit this scarf?
Knitting a ravenclaw one for my brother during quarantine
That was a very good tutorial
Thank you for posting.
You’re very welcome!
I don't get why I can't just purl or just knit???
You can! But if you just knit or just purl then you’ll get garter stitch. Alternating a knit and purl gets you rib stitch
Still having the same problem 😭
@Alex Willemburg wow okay... that seems to make sense. I'll try knitting closer as soon as possible and we'll see. Thanks! 😊
@Alex Willemburg hey! Thanks for your tip, it's worked for me~ 😊 edge loops aren't huge anymore. Although, I have to practice knitting with less tension cause I keep pulling stitches and dropping them off the needle. 😅
@Alex Willemburg I made a Ravenclaw scarf already. And now I'm making two small Gryffindor baby scarves for our twins! Lol 😊
Who else could just watch her hands for hours?😜
Im so mad at myself, I was trying yo figure out how to do a house scarf on my own and when I finally gave up to look up tutorials here this is lol
Can u make a video of how to knit a baby sweater.....for beginner's 🤭🤭
id love to see that to make some sweaters for my teddy bear
Great video. Thanks. Under the strong light your hands look like zombie hands. Maybe I've been watching too many Zombie shows. lol
But trying something basic first 😅
My stupid arse tried making a Slytherin scarf (I didn't have the colours for the others) but ended up doing the colours wrong, smh.
Or is this a different style that requires an odd number of stitches?
perhaps i should find a "how to knit" video first....i already (sorta) know how to crochet.... but knitting looks complicated.
Thanks.
I can’t find paint box acrylic in Canada. Can you recommend another acrylic and what colours would I use ?
I'd like to attempt a Slytherin version! Is this scarf reversible? Does it end up looking the same on both sides?
Gryffindor ❤️💛
Not beginner-friendly
I'm knitting a Ravenclaw one for my son (dark blue and mustard stripes). I am better at crocheting than knitting and I was looking for a tutorial for an easy stitch, one that thought me how to change colours and also one on how to place the different colour blocks in the scarf, so I was prepared to go thorough dozens of tutorials but this is just what I was looking for. It' got everythig I need to know and was looking for and it is so well explained and so thorough that I'm sure I can make it too. You have a gift for teaching and you are also fun to listen to. You have found yourself a new follower :-)
Oh what a nice comment to start the week! Thank you! Good luck and happy knitting!
Can someone explain why when I cast off my edge is kind of ruffled? I hate it, but I don't know how to fix it.
There's actually easier way to knit these loops... I was really confused when I saw the way you knit but then I understood what loops are these.
I'm crying right now I simply can't do this I can't even do the first row
kiana amarnani yes you can! It’s always hard at first but keep at it and you’ll get the hang of it! Good luck !
My Gramma asked me what i want gift for new (she wasnt able to buy me anything so its a kind of late-new year gift hehe) so i sent her this...
Can I still slip the first stitches, if I have an even number of stitches? Or does it have to be an odd number?
I keep trying to start but lose track of my stitches and keep having to start over im excited to do this but need to stop for tonight at least 😅
