I’m from the city but have lived in the countryside. The countryside is amazing for people who are interested in homesteading and farming. We are nature-loving folks who don’t need the conveniences of the city all of the time. 😊

I think more and more people are beginning to realize the major advantages of owning land, especially in America. When the supply chain broke, then shortages and inflation occurred, more and more people have begun to realize the importance of having their own food source. As a matter of fact, gardening increased by 18.3 million people during the "Covid pandemic" and 55% of American households engage in gardening activities. Studies found that 35% of U.S. households grow vegetables, fruits, and other food. Believe it or not, most by millennials. Home and garden global online sales increased by 100% from 2019 to 2020. I'm still surprised at the number of people who absolutely love the city. I understand the convenience. They make me curious. Personally, I hate being in an area with an enormous population. I have a small homestead myself. I love the idea of minimizing and becoming self-sufficient. It's a lot of work, but nothing can replace the satisfaction of getting that first fruit and knowing that you cultivated it. Now they want to create 15-minute cities all over the world and it's quite scary because it's just not feasible. In these 15-minute cities if you leave more than the allotted time, let's say you have a family member ill, they will fine you.

It’s definitely perfect for people who are able and willing to farm and live off the land :) It’s definitely not for everyone (us included, we could never 💦), but we really admire those who go for it 🌿

Actually Halifax is my favourite Canadian city. I live in Montreal because of work. If I had a good paying job in Halifax I would move there in a second. There is something magical about the Maritimes. I liked Toronto when I first visited years ago (over 20!). Today it is too large for my liking. Even Montreal today compared to when I first moved here it is getting too big for me.

I have more time to enjoy being outside, Im healthier and more physically active, and I find that my mind is calmer. Ive had more time to enjoy the hobbies I never had time to in the city.

I enjoyed the documentary and it's sad to see how the beautiful country towns/cities are dying out. Here in the states we have instances where imminent domain happens. Farmers are given an amount for their land which is far below what it is worth. Farmers have no choice whether to sell or not because a hi-way or turnpike needs land for new roads, etc. Also, as the older generation passes away many of the farms are sold off because much of the younger generation just isn't interested in farming. Things like this will increase the price of food because less farms mean less produce. It's a domino effect. It's good to see Beemo doing so well, he always makes me smile!

I really enjoy the conversations about life in a big city vs countryside and 100% think it is possible to live a slow life in a big city... Honestly everything depends on the person and we can't find a perfect answer for everyone. Based on my experience, I can say that I just can't live in the small cities, even though I was born and grew up in one (or maybe this is actually the reason why I love big cities now lol)... Used to live in both Europe, US and Asia and so far Tokyo and Seoul feel like the most comfortable for me. I think the most important thing is having some kind of a balance between big city life and slow living aka going to the nature from time to time, taking some days off the work to relax, traveling etc. And it will be absolutely OK.
Again, thank you so much for the great content, love your videos guys 😊

I spent 7 years in Chicago and I’ve been back to my childhood neighborhood for the past year, which is in Michigan (suburban area of Detroit if you will).
Growing up we’d travel 2 & 1/2 hours north to go to a family cabin and it felt like a time warp. And now that I’ve been back in this area as opposed to the city life I’m getting that same vibe, but maybe amplified by having more houses and less trees.

I am bummed I missed the Livestream! I saw that you did it but I was asleep, lmao. I'll have to go back and watch it while I'm crocheting today :)
It's funny that you guys are talking about the necessity of cars, cuz here in the US we definitely need cars. Especially because it's so big. I wouldn't actually mind living somewhere a little more rural than we live now, but I think we're actually in a really great place. We're like 5 minutes from "town," 30 minutes north or south to malls and a lot of shopping and restaurants, and we're 1 hour from Baltimore (MD), 1 hour from Harrisburg (PA), 2 hours from Washington DC, 2 hours from Philadelphia....(And we've got a lot of access to the Atlantic Ocean, Chesapeake Bay, and the Appalachian mountains)....So we're like in the goldilocks zone, as it were, in terms of geography, lol. At least in my opinion. I think I would also do fine in a city, I like being able to walk and bike, and I would love the convenience. Idk if I could deal with the noise, though. 😅
Take care and have a great week!

I grew up in the LA suburbs near Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm. We were only 13 miles from the beach but it often took close to an hour to get there because traffic was so heavy. In my early thirties hubby and I moved to Las Vegas, which was much smaller then than it is today. I loved its smaller size immediately, though I wasn’t a huge fan of living in the desert. I’m still not. But as our kids are grown now, we are seriously looking to move to a much more rural area. I regularly keep a decently stocked pantry so rarely need that last minute run to a grocery and can bake or fix anything I get a craving for most days. Green, quiet, and natural wildlife (rather than our crazy neighbors playing ridiculously loud music till 2:00-3:00 a.m.) is so my jam. Unfortunately, we can’t go completely off grid because my hubby needs regular access to high grade medical care, but we’d happily get as rural as possible.

    • @2hearts1seoul
      @2hearts1seoul  Год назад +1

The medical care is a big concern for the elderly who live out in rural areas as well. They have some smaller clinics, but you’d have to drive quite a ways to get to a large hospital. Finding the perfect balance is tough 🥲

Lived in the country-ish as a kid - loved it. Moved to a city as a married adult and liked the convenience, but we always dreamed of living in the country. When my husband died, I moved my kids to another city. Then, I finally moved to the country and realized how much I loved having a grocery literally across the street for those nights when I'm midway through cooking dinner and realize I don't have a main ingredient. If I was rich, I'd have a main place in the city and then a country house for weekends/brain breaks. Great video!

When we moved to Las Vegas for work I missed So. Cal and the ocean so much, but after a few years I just didn’t enjoy going back anymore. Even though Las Vegas has grown a lot, it’s still much smaller than anywhere near where we grew up. California was just way too crowded, in that area, anyway.

I like the slow pace but I’m getting frustrated with having to drive 2 hrs to Reno to get groceries cause the 2 supermarkets in town want to jack up prices. This town is slowly dying and they are too stubborn to let people come in to revitalize it. I also miss going to cafes and restaurants and trying new food. This town has Starbucks and 3 fast food joints and 2 sit down restaurants it gets a lil boring. I stay cause it is cheap.

I grew up in Boston and then moved to the suburbs, it's jarring at fist but then you get used to it. When I was in my twenties I thought some day I will move back to the city. Now that I am older I prefer the quiet suburbs. I think the suburbs is a very North American thing. Also most Americans and Canadians who live in the suburbs have cars which makes a huge difference. I think having mid-size cities and suburbs might help Korea and these small towns that are dissappearing.

My husband and I have always lived in bigger cities, (NYC, Sydney, Perth, currently Hamburg). Since our son is away at Uni and my husband’s family owns a large farmhouse 45 min outside of Hamburg, we will move there eventually. It will become a “home base” for us, since we can travel and work online. Our goal is to spend the cold, rainy months somewhere nicer and then come back to the farmhouse during Hamburg’s beautiful weather season, which are the summer months.
I will still go into the city maybe 2 x a week for appointments or work. It’s an easier decision for us because we are 20 yrs older than you both. Also, the “cities” are becoming increasingly warmer (climate change) and it’s not so hot at the farmhouse because of all the grass and trees.

Hanok stay in Jongno-gu, between Gyeongbokgung St. and Anguk St., a bit busy in daytime but there are also residential areas so it's quiet at night.
Some university districts like Hongdae, Gundae are quite noisy in the late afternoon and locals don't really go Myeongdong cuz it's the most touristy spot in Seoul, I'd not recommend there unless you're interested in Korean beauty stores or Kpop.
Try not to take subway, bus and taxi during rush hours in Seoul, esp in Gangnam.

It's interesting to see the Korean content from a Candian perspective. I think Koreans don't seem to know a lot about Canada. I see a lot of utube content from Koreans about the States but very little about Canada. I live in a small city (70,000) called Medicine Hat, in the province of Alberta, 3 hour east of Calgary where I went to University and about 4 1/2 hours from the Rocky Mountains (Kananaskis and Banff), the southern part of Alberta. We are not far from the State of Montana (about 1 1/2 hours). This area is considered the prairies because it's farm and ranching country. It's mostly dry land so farmers use an irrigation system to water crops. You can go for miles seeing wheat, canola, sunflowers, corn and sugar beets, etc and very few trees until you reach the majestic Rocky Mountains which are just over an hour drive from Calgary. Many American movies are filmed here in Alberta. If you watch Stranger Things, it was all filmed in various parts of Alberta. The Terell Museum which is in Drumheller is world renowed for the vast amount of Dinosaur bones discovered there and where you would see the hoodos (rock formations caused by the glaciers during prehistoric times). And if you travel to the northern part of Alberta you would see the wooded area and eventually enter into the North West Territories. This part of Alberta is known for its hunting and fishing and is also known for its vast amount of oil discoveries but it is also known for large woodland fires which have been burning for over the last month. Smoke travelling down into the States as far as California. Firefighters from around the world travel north to help put out these fires. I know that fires are burning in NS right now but that is rare. Canada is a vast country, made up of multiple cultures but compared to Korea a young country colonized by the British and French thus we are bicultural country where English and French are the 2. This is why when you see government officials from Canada they speak both official languages. All political officials must speak both languages. As well, indigenous people hold special status and are known as first nations. Our history with first nation people is shrouded in negativity even to this day. But what few people know, even in Canada, is that all first nation peoples culture is not the same. The teepee, which was used on the prairies because these people were nomadic following the buffalo for their main food source is the symbol used when talking about indigenous people. If you cross Canada, the indigenous of the East lived in birch bark dwelling and if you go to the West coast the idigeneous there lived in long houses and each had their own cultures and traditions which were very different from one another. Even in Alberta there are many different tribes. I hope I didn't bore you. What I wanted to show, was that in Canada, we are a country made up many different traditions and cultures. A country made up of immigrants. When I watch utube channels and people talk about their identity and culture, quite often I sit back and ask myself what is Canadian culture because in reality we are a 'melting pot' of various different cultures and people (even people who are 2 or 4th generation here) will identify themselves as polish Canadian, Norwegian Canadian, French Canadian, korean Canadian, etc and when you go to certain parts of Canada, the area is often known, depicted or made up predominately of one culture because it is the nationality where this particular group settled when they came to this country (ie Quebec where French would be considered their first language). When you come to Canada, I hope you have the opportunity to see other parts of it to really get a feel of the vast and differences of not just it's people but the vast difference in its landscape and its history. Although people think that we are like the Americans, Canadians feel that we are very different in many ways. For one, we have gun control, you don't hear of mass shootings.

Interesting, how different cultures handle inheritance. Here in the US, if there’s no will specifying the precise desires of the deceased, property is divided equally among the surviving offspring left behind. I’m the oldest (daughter) among siblings in my immediate family, but my parent’s house and land will be divided equally between me and my two siblings. That’s what’s considered fair in America for the most part, and often exactly what’s specified in parents’ wills, so there’s no misunderstanding or strife.
If the house were located way out in the middle of nowhere, I think we’d all want to sell it and split the proceeds, because no one would want to actually live there. Convenience and access to important services are important to all of us.

I have pictures as a 3-4 year old with them 😅 I got under eye fat repositioning about 5-ish years ago, and it definitely helped with the puffy bag area I always had under my eyes. It was a very quick and easy recovery tbh, but Korea is known for that-their procedures are the most advanced worldwide I’d be willing to bet 😅 I’ll always have purple-ish colored under eyes though, since my under eye skin is really thin.

Random question, I know in Asian culture is boy boy boy everything. Oldest boy gets it all. But God creates how he wants, so if a family doesn't have an oldest son, say only daughters. In Korean, is the concept still the same? Would the oldest daughter then get the house one day?

    • @2hearts1seoul

Kyuho is looking buff! Sarah looks slim and fit. I came from a smallish city and moved to a rural area. I love it and wouldn't change it for anything. It didn't take time to adjust at all. I love nature and not hearing the bustling of people or seeing homeless on the daily. It has increased so much I can't stand going downtown. It's quite depressing. I prefer to be away from it all. If I could live in the Ozarks right now I would. The housing is reasonable there. However, I would be upside down if I moved at this juncture when housing prices are out of control. I would love it if a family member left me with a piece of farmland. I would take it in a heartbeat if my sibling didn't have the interest. It's commodity that you just can't beat and in the long run is lucrative. I say this because land will always hold value.

I live in Sweden's second largest city, but I'm originally from a smaller town just outside (about 45 km away). I'm thinking about moving back seriously. Sweden has huge problems with integration and segregation because we have had and have lots of asylum seekers/immigrants. The gang criminals are increasing and I live in a "good" neighborhood but our car got burned down last week! And there was also a fire in our recycling room. I've also seen drug dealing and gang members meeting up just outside my building. Sweden is so far gone now that nowhere is safe from gang violence. But it's at least not as usual and "out there" in the smaller towns. I love the convenience here and above all, going to restaurants and stuff. But it's not worth my safety. So I'm done with big cities, at least in Sweden.
