Bees wax will repel water and can be reapplied when cleaning up. Obviously if you submerge the finish in water for a long period water will soak into the wood fibre but many finishes will end up the same.

I made some bees wax finish and its good but I want to make a cool looking dark walking stick so I just made some diy walnut stain ......so what I'm getting from this is it should work out okay if I spend a few days staining my stick and letting that soak in, and then doing a few runs of bees wax finish over top and that will work out fine
