I’m gonna sound like a Celeste nerd saying this but 0:35 isn’t a wallboost it’s a wallbounce (wallboosts are different tech relating to stamina shenanigans)
if anyone sees this and is curious: wall bounces are when you dash along a wall and jump ~15-24(?) frames later, giving a vertical boost at the cost of no stamina wall boosts are when you do a climb jump and within 6frames(?) turn away from the wall. this consumes the 30 stamina then refunds it
Strikes me as very similar to the gyms in the Celeste mod: strawberry jam. Which is designed for the sole purpose of teaching tech and mechanics that the game itself doesn’t really bother teaching you. Very cool level.
correction: that's not a wallboost, that's a wallbounce wallboosts happen when you climbjump with no direction, turn away from the wall quickly and turn to the wall again, which gives you half a climbjump that doesn't consume stamina (basically a climbjump that almost looks like a neutral jump and that consumes no stamina)
Even more accurately: It does consume stamina, but gives it back again. That is an important distinction since doing a wallboost from the floor gives you more stamina than normally possible (enough for 5 vertical wall jumps)
@@drim_cafe overclocking (getting 5 climbjumps) is incredibly useful as a safety measure for goldens, and some harder modded maps may also require overclocks. Wallboosts are used to stop your momentum when jumping off a moving block in vanilla (as well as in some speedruns, for example to stop your momentum at the start of 3a fc, I think). In modded maps, you can use wallboosts for stamina-free climbing where neutral jumps are either disabled or not possible because of your surroundings. There's far less useful tech.
As a side note, the "wall boost" is actually a wallbounce. Wall boosts are a different thing, mostly a leniency mechanic though they do also have tech applications, mostly stamina preservation.
i wonder if there's a way to recreate reverse supers and hypers? it'd be pretty cool to see a GD level with the fast momentum pivoting that those provide
I see everyone thinking this looks like fun mechanics and hating on jet lag, but honestly, as a mobile player I think that Celeste tech with dash orbs is complete hell
i don't know of a tutorial, but the walljump is pretty simple rotate a dash orb 45 degrees, press edit special, and adjust the boost value to whatever you want. then, change the max duration to 0.01 or something small. you can also check allow collide just to be safe.
you can change how momentum is conserved with edit special on dash orbs, and theres hidden force blocks which are toggled when you click the orbs to help with sliding. You could also make the blocks you slide on ice blocks with the extra options in edit group, but i didn’t do that here
@@sucram314 that’s what I was missing I guess, the force blocks. I knew about the dash orb edit special and use 2 speed 2 end boost .01 max duration and it works as a pretty good boost I find on its own and is useful for waves and wall boosts, but I wasn’t sure on how to set up chained ultras. Neat Also, I guess I’ll share a tip on making a double jump since that’s probably going to be GD’s equivalent of celeste’s dash. Using a pink pad instead of a yellow orb and using player 2 jump allows you to combine orb gameplay with a double jump. I know that the pink pad doesn’t go as high, but it still functions quite well and the versatility of orb plus double jump gameplay would probably make for some more advanced gameplay
