I just started golfing last summer as a senior golfer. So I purchased a starter set of clubs. But I quickly realized I have skills, so I upgraded my driver with a used but very nice TaylorMade 2017 M2.
I plan to get a fitting this year, and I will be definitely trying the Mizuno STZ since my natural ball flight is a draw. Distance is important, but forgiveness and hitting fairways is much more important to me. I also like that the Mizuno driver is less expensive compared to a few others.
Great video Andy, I love the alignment, simple and shows you wear to line up.
I love my 921 mixed set. Just waiting on the Mizuno rep to come out to our club so that I can try the ST220 G, X, and Z to see which suits me best. I'll also be trying the new fairway woods from Mizuno.

Just bought ST-X 3month ago and feel it easy to hit and my avg distance around 210m to 245m, seem suit to my swing style (slow to mid speed). Last week just buy ST-X 220 Hybrid 4 and its superb! Planning to buy ST-G coming year.

I had a STX in my bag for the last 6 months - bought it because I fight a fade and also loved the soft feel when I hit from around the centre. Great driver with good results but in the end it just wasn't as long or as forgiving as my Ping G410 Plus driver - so I sold the Mizuno STX - would still recommend anyone to try it when they get fitted tho.

Nice new drivers! I saw your review comparing the Stealth and the Rogue ST, your carry was at around 230 with those two but I cound't find any dispersion graph. This STZ-220 seems pretty good at dispersion and you're at 234 carry. Perhaps Mizuno is working better for the average golfer?

Got my set of 921s ordered too. Tried out the 225s but the 921 forged came out on top. Gotta wait to try out the drivers though thinking maybe the cobra but will check these out too

As a high handicap golfer, what makes me happy is a respectable score at the end of the game, not to outdrive my mates and then spend time looking in vain for my ball in the rough. Forgiveness is everything. As much as I would would love to hit the ball perfectly every time, realistically, with the frequency that I play and my limited skills, it won't happen. These are, in my opinion, the most underrated drivers out there. Personally, I think they are really good looking to my eye. I'd definitely buy the STX over any other driver on the market.

Just got an Stx. Amazingly forgiving.
I've seen quite a few of these tests with other clubs and it seems that the big missing is low heel shots. Luckily I miss more toward the toe. My shots are middle to toe.
Mine are mostly toe. Really trying to bring it back closer to the center consistently. It's a work in progress.
Picked up an ST-Z over the holidays. Looking forward to warmer weather and putting it through it paces.

On the US website today, and to my surprise, they are offering the Hzrdus Smoke Blue shaft, with the nice PVD finish, at a no up-charge option - this slightly counter-balanced shaft will allow you to order the club, if desired, slightly longer than Mizuno's standard 45" length (Callaway and TM are @ 45.75), and this would give you slight gains in ball speed if you can still find the fairway. This release by Mizuno seemed to be unexpected so I wonder if it was in response to both TM and Callaway pushing deep & low CGs with increased Stability

Good review. I'd like to see a manufacturer bring out a low tech £200 driver, no carbon and no adjustability. Do we really need all that tech, it's only rehashed design and not really new at all. Everyone's jumped on the £400 bandwagon
Will 100 percent be trying a Z model. Love the looks and Mizuno generally as a brand. Actually feel refreshed at their marketing approach.

There's ALWAYS going to be a drop off in distance when the miss is heel side. The toe side miss flys a more normal distance cause the toe moves faster than the middle of the club.

I always thought Mizuno was one of the most straight forward companies concerning what their products offer. No marketing gimmicks or over-hype. ST-X is the model I wish to compare with my current TS2.

I recently purchased the STX and love it!
I think your dispersion chart showed it all. The grouping north to south shows how the speed across the face is saving you. Left to right is just your swing.
Well it does and it doesn't. Because we don't know where the ball was impacting the club face for each shot. He wouldn't always be having the exact same speed, so he may have had a centre hit but didn't quite put as much power into it. That is the problem with the graph... It needs more information. However aside from his natural fade it seems the Z had a bit more consistency for him, distance and grouped together wise.

I'm an average golfer and tbh, I don't care for taylormade, callaway etc. Im probably in the minority here but I just think you can't beat mizuno in general for golf. Titleist and Mizuno are the best all around brands if you ask me.

I must admit that I have never seen a Mizzy driver in the flesh or hit one, but from your vid, they do look classy and would seem to perform at least as good as other drivers out there.
The only negative that I would have is that there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between each model and I'm not sure which one would suit me best

I currently own the mizuno mx 700 and I hit straighter and further than a my golf mates. It's all relative tho, ego aside, but I'd be highly interested in any driver they bring out due to the success of my current Driver. The driver market is very expensive for someone with a young family so I won't be anytime soon 😂

I heard the STZ model sits a little open at address. Can you confirm this? It would make sense given where your shots with the STZ were landing? I prefer it to be open rather than most drivers now which sit closed. Great review as always.
I recently bought the STZ and love it. I hate clubs that sit closed at address. It does sit neutral to slightly open, depending on your hozzle setting. When set at a higher loft, it slightly closes it. So, you would need it set down in loft

Help. Really enjoyed this and love the Mizuno look. But help if you can. I live in Italy and testing and trying for me is awkward. I’m in the uk soon with literally half a day free. I’m 60. I don't think the distance game is over. As TM seems to be consistently longer year after year. It's not the pop of the face, as that is where they are regulated. They fire a ball into the face and however far it goes is then measured. They only do that to the sweet spot if I remember correctly. And it is nowhere near the impact of a club hitting the ball while traveling 100 mph, give or take. So they could figure out a way to get more pop with more speed than what it is tested at. That may not be possible but an avenue you don't want to ignore. Also, they can make them hotter higher in the face or anywhere on the face out of sweet spot.
Another avenue is in aerodynamics. Some designs cut through the air better than others thus creating a little more head speed. And that in itself will get more distance be it ever so slight. But if you can get 10 yards, that is one club shorter you are using on your approach shot.
Then there is the shaft. In my opinion, as I always preach this, is far more important than the clubheads. If you can find the right shaft for your swing, you will gain more consistency accurate distance in the short stuff which gets you run out. Not so much for the guys that hit it 160 to 180 feet high, and they bite on the fairway, but most players runout is good for a lot of yards. And if you can find a shaft that is stable with your swing and has a lot of kick, good luck with that, though it is possible, never lose that shaft and take notes on the weight of the head. But it isn't too difficult to find a fairway finder shaft that just puts the head in the same place every time you swing the club. I have one, though it does cost me 20 yards. But I'd much rather lose 20 and be in the fairway then OB, in the water, in the rough or behind a tree or trees. Shaft hunting will gain lower scores than any head.

It’s certainly interesting and refreshing for a manufacturer not to make exaggerated claims about distance. With the rules of golf limiting COR perhaps more manufacturers will need to focus on dispersion and stability story!

There also is a legal limit on moi... people are just not as aware and dispersion is a bit less measurable than balls speed. Golf companies are selling unicorns since at least 2010.
In terms of price, in the US Mizuno is $100 less than Callaway on drivers and $50 less on fairway woods. If performance is the same and you enjoy the look/feel/ brand of Mizuno that’s certainly a factor in favor of Mizuno.
I don't prefer the other brands. Mizuno as a general brand is the one for me. :)
I just feel Mizuno should have these closer to £300 like PXG have, low profit but made up by higher sales and iron sales.
I would have gone for the st-g220 but these do look really good!

Buy any new driver is a waste of money! I have watched probably thousands of videos with people over the last 5 to 6 years with little to no gain with drivers. I still believe the Mavrik driver from Callaway is one of the best, I have 2 of them, one I play and a backup. I am one of the longest drivers in the 3 groups I play with. I see all these different drivers out here and laugh as mine flies by them. I am '5 "7 and weigh 150 lbs.

I just got one of these brand new for £160.
You always come across a little bit negative towards the Mizuno drivers which I find confusing because they seem to do very well for you. We should be applauding Mizuno for not trying to BS everyone with the marketing guff. When Mark Crossfield looked at the Stealth it barely outperformed the 20 year old Callaway C4. Getting fit and testing your own numbers trump any marketing hype. I wonder how a person can spend that much on a new driver without getting fit and relying on marketing BS.
Unfortunately they won't be on my test list for the simple fact that as usual they are ripping us off here in Australia by being the most expensive or at least equal most expensive. I actually contacted them and inquired politely after their last iteration and was told that it was down to shipping costs. I called bullshit on this as every other company also ships here and they didn't reply.
Very poor when they are cheaper everywhere else.
Shipping costs is a crap excuse tbh. I got a full set of MP-20 MMC irons a year ago and the Mizuno factory where they are assembled is just down the road at Mulgrave in Melbourne.
That said, I'm still invested in them because of all the shaft and grip options they provide for no upcharge.

I've been tying my best to tell everyone as well
Here is another result that bears out your comment that getting good results from the ST-G 220 probably also requires finding the right shaft. Michael Newton at Penrith Golf Hub tested it set at 9 degrees with the standard Hazardus Smoke shaft. With club speed around 111-112 and ball speed about 161-163 he got spin rates far too low in the standard setting, one at 1276 and another at 1596. When he configured the weights with both in the middle and back, he was able to get better results: club speed 111.6, ball speed 163.0, launch 11.4, spin 2168, carry 278.4, total 308.5, descent angle 32.7. So it seems clear that to get the best results out of this head, you need considerable swing speed and have to work out the right weight settings and definitely the right shaft. Totally agree John the shaft/head combination is always paramount to getting best results and obviously differs from person to person and why I am such a strong advocate of custom fit
@@TheAverageGolfer I'm not sure what you think, but it seems to me that the extreme low spin heads that all the major manufacturers are offering risks creating a kind of fad where a lot of players chasing faster ball speed and distance start buying off the shelf drivers with heads with which they can only get spin rates of 1800 or less. At such low spin rates they will sacrifice control. Am sure that if they come to expert fitters like you they will be properly steered toward heads that give them the right combinations. But after they have seen more and more long drive competitions and super-long players like DeChambeau pushing to get 200 mph ball speed, it becomes a macho-man kind of thing that can be contagious. (By the way, DeChambeau just had to withdraw from the Saudi International with left wrist and left hip problems.)

I enjoy the reviews , however your numbers are losing a bit of credibility with me. Despite , in your own words hitting both drivers all over the face you manage somehow to hover around and quite often above a 1.50 smash factor. Not really certain how that works. I doubt you’ll reply as I’ve commented about this before. I’ll be unsubscribing I think shortly as I don’t really trust those numbers which makes the review a bit pointless
