i like the dual nature of the two voodoo users in this film: the shadow-man gives you what you want (he also is very focused on money and material wealth) Mama Odie gives you what you need (and is not focused on money and or possessions and more on emotional wealth)
Also their difference in appearance. Dr. Facilier: man, tall, slender, dressed in black and purple. Mama Odie: woman, short, fat, dressed in white and yellow. (Yellow and purple are the opposites on the color wheel)
One of my favourite critics really didn't get the message of this movie, and complained that it shouldn't have criticised Tiana for being a career woman with big ambitions. He was wrong. The real message is that Tiana doesn't place enough value on her relationships with other people, and thinks personal success alone will make her happy. Meanwhile the Prince's problem is that he places too much value on short-term pleasures and not enough on taking responsibility and acting like a mature adult. So Tiana teaches him about the importance of hard work and responsibility, while he teaches her that it's still important to know how to unwind, have fun, and be with other people. And that's why they're so good for each other.
Tbh movie critics ruined a lot of movies for me in the past. My sister saw this movie with my grandma when she was younger, it was the only movie they saw together in theaters before she died. So seeing how other people ruin it today really hurts from deep down
The movie doesn't critique her on working hard, it critiques her for working TOO hard, and as hard as it to agree, there is such thing. Maid by day and waitress by night, 9 hour shifts and what seemed to be literally 5 seconds of sleep is not healthy. And Prince Naveen worked too little, no hard work and all play, they were too extremes that needed to find a good middle ground. But they both looked too much on surface level, that's what the song is about.
1:52 “Your daddy was a loving man family through and through, you’re your daddy’s daughter! What he had in him you got in you!” That honestly made me cry
Cause she is African American, Sounds like reality, following stereotypes white American girls are born with everything they want and never do a thing in their life, instead This princess fought for her future
Because the Academy hates Animation and kids shows more so the first one Seriously why do you think they invented the best Animated movie category then shaved down what would count
Basically it's telling you to dig deeper into who you are and find out what you need, instead of worrying about how many wealthy possessions and objects you want. Nice song 🎵 👌
This song lights up every hardship, misconfiguration, deception, greed, and etc. to lighten, and embrace the real you....so grateful it I heard it...it's more than just a Disney song.✨❤️✨

I know Friends on the Other Side not being included on the ride is a huge bummer, but picture this: You’re riding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure on a hot summer’s day, not a cloud in the sky, going up the final lift hill, you get near the top, looking out at the view of the park, and… 2:30 …then you drop down. +Joshua Serrato while frozen is a masterpiece it had too many flaws to count princess in the frog is near flawless and the songs are wayyyyy better than frozen's
top 2 tropes in movies: #2: the batshit crazy animal who is a badass and usually hunts the main character down #1: the wacky insane-in-a-good-way grandma who is unbelievably based

I remember one critic didn't like the fact that Tiana is encouraged to find herself a man instead of being career oriented, but I think he missed the point. Naveen's problem is that he's lazy, but Tiana's problem is that she's so driven she's forgotten how to enjoy life and make time for other people. That's why they're good for each other.

I don't always agree with critics
How did they at all criticize her?!!! She literally got her restaurant by her own money.

If that problem was ever “corrected” this masterpiece of a film would be just as soulless as the ones today
it's quite ironic how she was blind and yet she saw things about other people clearer than they could see about themselves
Emotion trumps any physical ailment! 🙌

Hanna Rose they actually based her on how black women had to live in the 1920s so it actually does have to do with race a little bit

That's the point. They cover music associated with New Orleans and the Deep South: Gospel, jazz, and Zydeco, included.
African American gospel is probably the most pleasing music to listen to.

I love how she calls Tiana "Ms. Froggy"
Nobody even told her she was turned into one, she just knows.
truthfully, there is no stopping point in this song, you gotta play it all the way through.
