I've literally been crying because perspective has been so hard for me but when I watched this video it was like everything clicked and I've never been so grateful RUclips exists
I cannot thank you enough for this. I didn't understand how the perspective line would change with different camera angles and I also didn't know the little trick for spacing out objects like the poles at 4:38 , so thank you for those tips! This video is really helping me rn, because I'm trying to draw a rooftop view background and well it wasn't going amazing until I saw this video.
I'm so happy you've decided to cover this topic, I was looking for the youtube artist who would be able to explain it the way you do it, thank you sooo so much for constantly providing so much quality content on your channel, you are the best 🙂
I've been watching you for many years now and it surprises and delights me how much time and energy you put into helping to teach others. You're a wonderful person and an amazing artist! Thank you so much for your continued generosity with your time and knowledge! We're very blessed to have you here!
Perspective can be so tricky but your videos really helped me understand it more with practice. Really starting to come together for me and it's all because of artist like you
I can't believe I actually somewhat understand! Knew my potato brain processor would have a hard time with this one, so i've been watching video after video getting nuggets of information until this one actually clicked! This is incredible. Thank you sir, I will forever refer back to this video until I become a perspective GOD! 💪
I see perspective being so undervalued by some artists. For me, perspective is very important to have more accurate and professional art even if you are not interested in drawing scenarios or comics, since even characters from different angles will have different perspectives. Anything that is not flat has a perspective, so it’s a quite necessary study.
I love the way Dave teaches. He didn't take for granted some things other artist have over the years. Like exposin explaining how the horizon line works in remain to yuppie view point. A lot of teachers skip that part assuming you "get it".
After so many years that I've tried to find something that would really help me with perspective, nothing has ever given me as much clarity on the topic as much as this video has! Thank you so much!!
I've found through much of my research on many topics that many people know their jobs so well they forget what it's like to not know and inadvertently leave out critical information. As boring as perspective points and drawings may be to a seasoned pro like yourself, I'm not a seasoned pro and you've helped me in that regard with its video. Thank you
If I ever needed you to upload a tutorial video to improve me personally as an artist, this is the one!! Most of my struggles have been with perspective. Thanks Dave!!
So I have already watched so many artists talk about perspective and I understood the concept of it but still, it was hard for me to put it on paper. I feel the way David has explained all the points, especially thinking this from the camera's perspective, really helped me understand how it will look on paper. Now it is much easier for me to visualize it. so thank you, David!
Can't wait for the next video where you will explain the mentioned "tilted cubes". Every time perspective is taught with all the cubes parallel to each other, but very few teachers get to the step where vanishing points start to slide on the horizon line for those tilted cubes. Thanks David !
This is an amazing video! The best video on perspective I’ve seen! He explains it with no pomp. He’s a great artists and has no hesitation mentioning struggles with lines
Absolutely brilliant, tried calling my cousin and niece who are architects, only couldn't get hold of them, but thankfully I found you! 💕 Thank you so much. 💡🙂
This video is amazing, I finally understand! I don’t see the sequel you alluded to and if I’m not just missing it when I look, I hope you release it soon.
Thanks for the perspective update. I pulled my old final perspective notebook from Art Center (ill.1987) out and it looks pretty darn good. Much of those notes left my memory many years ago. So your video is much appreciated.
Wow. I was not planning on watching this one because I thought it would be too basic based on the thumbnail. After skipping over it a few times I decided to watch it. Glad I did! Those portions about drawing the side of the cube smaller based on if they are closer to the vanishing point caused a lightbulb moment for me. I was wondering why my boxes never looked quite right. Now off to practice this. I can’t wait for the next video because turning the boxes is also something I struggle with. Thanks so much. I always enjoy your content.
Love your videos. So informative with good examples. Most other perspective tutorials are just like here is 1, 2, 3 point. Done. The nuances, pitfalls, distortions, even literally showing where the head is looking makes things a lot simpler to understand.
So this helps way more than I can credit you for. The simplicity of how you taught just made my brain like a sponge! Now I have a question how do you draw as if you are on a hill looking down. With nature objects around.
Thanks David. Right on time, as I've been watching your perspective videos over, and over, and over again for quite some time. And now I have a new one to digest. It's 5AM here and my day is already fulfilled :)
Thank you so much for these tutorials. Even though I am aware of these rules, the techniques you use are so friendly to watch and learn they enhance my drawings so much!
This video has really really helped me. I even bought one of the parallel rulers because it seemed to make things so much faster :-) Thank you so much.
Thank you!!! this helped ALOT!! i really struggle with perpective and all of the mistakes you pointed out, i have been doing them, cause i had no idea. thank you so much!!! for explaining it.
Would love to see more topics covered on advanced perspectives like backgrounds. Boxes are fine but are very simple, adding people housings, buildings etc is a bit harder imo.
so basically the perspective points are like black-holes with the same efect of distorsion that u see in movies, whenever u put one, your cubes got deformed by the distance was rly easy to udnerstand, feel like 6 points are understable now, rly nice video
Hey David, thank you for this ❤️ I got a question about 1 point perspective (I'm still watching the video so if you actually answer it I'll delete this question haha) : How do I make sure all objects are correctly aligned on a same plane (say I want the objects on a table, ground or imaginary invisible plane below them, how do I make sure no object is extending too low on the z axis, so low that it would actually pierce the table if it was real) Again thank you sir for the great tutorials and livestreams. Your art AND your teaching skills are both amazing.
Dave I think I could watch you talk about perspective a hundred times and still get some new information from it every time.

right!? He’s a professional badass with a pencil for sure
I didn't know the trick he used for drawing the poles in perspective, but now I do 👍

Around the twelve minute mark when you drew people in, that’s the best visual aid for perspective I’ve ever seen. It really made it click for me
Me too fr

I've tried to learn this from like 10 different people and this finally made me understand perspective at least pretty well, great video

the smartest and most wholesome video on perspective ever! thank you!

I feel like I always got the gist of 3-point perspective but this video just clicked everything into place, thank you!
I can really place these cubes throughout without "having to really exert thought". Says the man. Good stuff.

I’m in architecture school and is having a hard time grasping perspective and this helps so much! Thank you!
The first sentence blew my mind away 😱 Safe to say this is the tutorial I’ve been sorely needing
If I ever needed you to upload a tutorial video to improve me personally as an artist, this is the one!! Most of my struggles have been with perspective. Thanks Dave!!
The first 55 seconds, after your intro, I learned more than all the other sites I looked at- with absolutely no frustration!

The camera analogy makes so much sense.
This might be the most helpful video on perspective that I've seen so far, and I've seen quite a few. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Only 2 minutes in and I want to know if your ruler 'tool' is a homemade job of not. Really quick and ultra-handy looking.
It's a parallel marine ruler

Love the example of the pole line up using the X points to find the next pole thanks!.
Best video on perspective hands down! First one that actually made sense to me!

Great stuff to learn, simple to be creative!!! ...... ....🐼🐼🐼🐼🐼.
Wow, this just makes so much more sense than all the ways I learned perspective originally.
That was a lot of knowledge at once, my brain is slowly downloading it. Nonetheless that was a great video thank you.
Ah oui ! Merci David!!!

What an awesome video! I’ve saved this so I can watch it many more times. Thanks for putting this out.

well this video is called INTRODUCTION To Perspective, so he's obviously going to start with the very basics.

Nice. I just subscribed. You rock Mr. Dave 🤟💞
Hey David, thank you for this ❤️
I got a question about 1 point perspective (I'm still watching the video so if you actually answer it I'll delete this question haha) :
How do I make sure all objects are correctly aligned on a same plane (say I want the objects on a table, ground or imaginary invisible plane below them, how do I make sure no object is extending too low on the z axis, so low that it would actually pierce the table if it was real)
