However, the Volvo XC90's automatic gearbox can be slow to react and there’s some wind noise from the door mirrors at speed.
Our verdict is that everybody in the market for a large SUV should have a Volvo XC90 on their shopping list.

I like the New Whatcar reviews and keep the good work up
An informative good assessment. Thank you.
Recently just purchased one. The best decision I could've made. Very solid tank like feel with one of the best interiors in its class hands down. Also the ride is typical Volvo very comfortable. I was told to also consider the lexus RX 350L. The lexus rear seats were cramped and the interior felt more Toyota like than premium. And honestly that large grille is ugly and the overall look reminds me of the Pontiac Aztec. The Volvo screamed old money and sophistication while Lexus screamed trying to hard and somewhat garish appearance. Like with most Volvos the design is timeless you cant say that for the RX and Lexus in general.
The ride in the Volvo XC90 is much more comfortable than the ride in the BMW X5 and the Porsche Cayenne.
needs to be compared against the new Audi Q7. Both very good cars, having driven both, but much cheaper lease deal for me on the Audi, which also has the nicer engine. If I needed 7 seats every day though I would take the XC90
Shame that whatcar doesn't make reviews like this anymore.
love this new volvo. please make a fully electric version.
I think there's a hybrid version
the only issue with hybrid is that they never make a large battery.
+hyylo First Volvo all-electric in 2019. I don't know which model it will be.
2019 is far too long. tesla, google and apple will be in the market by then which will cause companies like Volvo lots of problems.
The new Volvo XC90 T8 hybrid is selling like hotcakes. If you go to your dealership to order one, you'll have to wait several months for one. There's a lot of pent up demand for new Volvos, and Tesla, Google, or Apple will be no problem at all. All electric cars will continue to be a tiny part of the car market for a while, especially with cheaper gasoline prices. 2019 is soon enough for Volvo.
I have that car in white SE lux
Is this Saville Grey by any chance?
Steering wheel of center?? Start by driving on the right side of the road and you dont get that "problem"...
great car
If I ever have kids then this is the car I will get. Hopefully I can afford it or a Land Rover disco.
Yes I have, I've driven all 3 models ... That's why I said what I did ... Perhaps you need to actually drive one or drive a Lexus and. You'll find out how much better it is
+donkeydicked I have read the posts of some new XC90 owners over at the SweedSpeed forum who would disagree with you. They drove both the RX350 and the RX 450, and thought the XC90 was better. And you do know that the new XC90 has won about 50 awards from automotive journals this year, 30 from the English speaking world. These journalists drive just about every new car out there, including Lexus, before they give these awards away. (one journalist said the XC90 has the interior of a $100,000 car). Not to mention, the new XC90 is selling a lot faster than Volvo expected. It's a smashing success.
Haha. 8 minutes slagging it off and then says it's one of the best cars on the road
For a nice boxy looking badboy car like a volvo, hopefully they bring out a v8 sport version
Is this the car on top gear where the engine falls off twice?
Well it's no Lexus .... Awful to drive and terrible jerky transmission... .engines are silly little 4 cylinders in big heavy cars . Just ridiculous and bound to fail in time . New RX 350 has a proper sized 3.5 l V6 and stunning interior that leaves this for dead
+donkeydicked Obviously you have never driven or been in one.
Lexus better then Volvo....what a joke...just a boring toyota.... Terrible plastic interiors....
Refer Back to my first comment.
+donkeydicked The Lexus V6 makes 295 HP compared to 315HP for the XC90 I4. And there is no comparison in the torque numbers. The Volvo I4 makes 295 ft lbs of torque at a low 2200 rpm. The Lexus V6 makes 267 ft lbs of torque, but at a high 4700 rpm, meaning it will take "forever" to get that torque from idle.
+donkeydicked hahahahah Lexus better than volvo ????LOL and LOL
shit. electric or nothing
The
it looks very nice and I bought one but regret it after a few days, the road noise is really bad, for a car costing £59k with extras, Volvo have spoilt a good looking car, I would not recommend you buy one, I am talking really bad road/tyre noise, SatNav and Voice control are rubish too. dont bother with the air suspension either, its a waste of money and does not help.
go for a Q7 or Landrover Discovery. you will regret buying the XC90,
Test drive next time, Paul?
Ours is fine and have none of the issues you stated. Maybe a tiny bit of road noise, but that's so small that its quite insignificant. I don't understand why u are having these issues. I agree that the Q7 is great, but in my opinion it doesn't live up to it's price compared to our good XC90. Land Rover... Just no.
orangejam1000 No standard 20" wheels and air suspention.
DamnBigAss62 I have a D5 inscription, 20" wheels and air suspension, and road noise is atrocious, engine is very quiet but road noise is really, really bad.
As an owner of XC90 I warned all new buyers to think twice. This car has very low reliability and will require lots of expensive maintenance. Unless you have a full insurance coverage for it and tons of time to spend visiting dealer, don't get fooled by the look, safety record snd bells and whissles.
Kambiz Tahan - Troll, you never owned one...
