      I have the rack preamp 530 and 570. Both are excellent for technical death metal in my opinion. The 530 is dry and super tight, but the 570 is more brutal with the gain and tone shaping options. I want a Fireball though!

    I've got the Fireball and love the high-gain channel to death. The clean isn't Fender, but quite usable for the limited clean playing I do. I almost bought a Powerball, but it has just too many knobs. I'm the kind of guy that can get really lost in tweaking and get no guitar playing done. The Fireball's simplicity and tear your face off gain us the winner for me.

    Based on this video comparison, the Fireball sounds like there's more gain, more mids & in your face. Powerball ii is more dispersed distortion, a tad less on the mids, nice & even. I usually lean towards the Fireball but Powerball ii is really close.

  • @kadestorm
    @kadestorm Год назад +6

    If we look at most comparisons, reviews and feedback, the one common thing that is said about the Fireball 100/25-the post 2010 models-compared to all other ENGLs, is that they sound very “pissed off” and raw. Pure aggression in its simplest and undiluted form.
    That said, when it comes to recording and processing the audio, certain modifications can sometimes be done to the signal to fine tune it in the mix. This is where amps like the Powerball II have an advantage. It doesn’t lack in overall aggression and gain, but it’s definitely smoother and tamer for mix usage.
    I have to ask. Did you use the mid boost on the Fireball 100? If so, then did you also use the mid voicing boost on the Powerball II with the dial cranked a bit? This wouldn’t make a difference to the rawness factor in either amp, but it would give them a somewhat similar low mid elevation. I did find that the Powerball II sometimes sounded a bit more open with a wider range.

    • @DevGohil
      @DevGohil  Год назад +4

      You’re right man
      No mid boost activated on either amp, it did thicken the sound on both amps but with the Marshall cab it made the tone muddier, added ‘flub’

    • @kadestorm
      @kadestorm Год назад +2

      @@DevGohil Absolutely. Speakers in particular can have a sizeable impact on tone and how the voicing plays out. Some of them can over-accentuate aspects of the low end and mid range to the point where they don’t sound appropriate for one’s aims. I could imagine a feature like the mid boost sounding a bit too muffled through certain cabinets.
      I asked about this because there was a mild difference with the Fireball 100’s ferocity being very focussed and condensed, right at the front with that sizzling top end while the Powerball II sounded a bit more open and broader with the sizzling aspect of the top end being smoothed out a little.
      Personally, in most speaker combination cases, I don’t even use the mid boost as I think the taper on the mid dial is behind great to get a searing mid range snarl out of the Fireball and I’ve put it up against amps like the Peavey 6505 and the EVH 5150-III where it hasn’t just held up, but stood out with that burning top end and heavy low end - almost like a boosted rectifier. Hell, I just use the mid boost to give lead sections a slightly different voicing so they provide contrast to the standard tone.
      Anyway. That’s some brutal riffage in the comparison that sells on its own! \m/

    • @DevGohil
      @DevGohil  Год назад +2

      @@kadestorm you're 100% right, these ENGLs are very 'dark' sounding amps, whereas it's competitors have brighter, sometimes harsher more cutting sounds, though live, somehow i find that darkness in the low end helps with the live mix a lot more, since high frequencies are all over the place

    • @kadestorm
      @kadestorm Год назад +3

      @@DevGohil Well said! Dark can be great, so long as it isn’t to an excessive and detrimental degree. Gives a fuller sound in addition to the high end.

    @TheGgreen100 11 месяцев назад +2

    Both amps are good but the Fireball feels like it extends slightly higher up the frequency spectrum which makes it sound clearer and more open, where the Powerball doesn't produce as many sizzly highs, but punches harder in the mids. The Powerball has a great clarity to it but overall I think the Fireball sounds more satisfying to listen to.

    I'm not particularly fond of the Marshall Mode Four (MF) series, and to be honest I thought the Powerball sounded terrible with the Fireball not sounding all that great either. However, that combination (Fishman PUP --> Dean Dime --> Fireball --> MF400 had a nasty raw growling tone. The Powerball sounded good through that combo as well, but it's still too flubby on the low end. Anyone tuned to Drop C or below would need some serious EQ to ATTEMPT to tame the Powerball, especially through an active PUP. In conclusion, the Dime equipped with the Fishman PUP through the Fireball was F'n NASTY and RAW. So Fireball all day everyday!!! Lastly, thanks for doing the demo bro 🤘

    Man they both sound incredible but if I had my choice I'd prolly grab the Powerball. To me it sounds like it's got more clarity and articulation. At the same time, the Fireball just sounds like a fire breathing beast. Impossible to go wrong with either of them.
