I agree, THIS is the performance that set her apart. She was still unhampered by judges and the Idol machine. She was just going all out, her own instincts and everything was punctuated with her signature touch. Her album and future performances need to capture this energy and charisma. Her Idol tour song cover of Prince is the closest.

Angela Harris The point is how Phillip won matters. He didn’t win fair and square. His coronation song song was prepared months in advance. The powers that be made sure he got in the finale, then made sure he won. Interscope Records did Jessica dirty while treating Phillip like a prince.
I'd rather pay to see Jessica Sanchez perform at a rundown theater than to pay to see Phillip Phillips perform at a state-of-the-art arena.

If I were a contestant on The Voice and Jessica Sanchez is a coach, and I turned at least two coaches’ chairs including Jessica’s, and I pick her, I’d say:
“The coach I’m choosing is the epitome of all contestants of the show that Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson competed on. I voted for her on that show. She came in second on that show back in 2012. That coach is Jessica Sanchez!”
I made this comment not out of favoritism towards Jessica Sanchez or hatred against Phillip Phillips, but out of honesty and justice. I do not condone fixed outcomes. It is unfair and unethical to fix the outcome of the competition just to please the core audience. If American Idol season 11 ran fairly, Jessica Sanchez would have won and Joshua Ledet would have been her runner-up.

I'm neither Phillips' nor American Idol hater (in fact I watch American Idol), but your comment is absolutely true. This is just their way of pleasing the audiences for them to earn profit. This is also the reason why I stop watching Idol 12, but I still hope everything will change on AI13.
Because all the teeny boppers who is the core audience of AI, voted for him (and several before PP as well). Jessica deserved it.

Phillip Phillips has only half as many Twitter followers as Jessica Sanchez. Phillip's album was released five months before Jessica's album. His sales growth is slowing down. Jessica's album may not have sold well in the U.S. for now, but it has been selling well in the Philippines. If her album can sell well in Europe, then it can sell well in the U.S. It all comes down to promotion. Also, there was miscommunication between Jessica's management team and Interscope Records.

The American Idol season 11 finale was fixed. It was impossible for Jessica Sanchez to lose to Phillip Phillips fair and square. All 132 million counted votes came from the East Coast, where Phillip Phillips mainly dominated. Most of the votes for Jessica Sanchez were not counted, and most of them cast outside the East Coast. The votes from the Mountain Time Zone, the West Coast, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico were not counted.
The outcome was decided by the powers that be, not the jury (i.e. the voting viewers).

Due to her international support, which Haley Reinhart lacks, Jessica Sanchez will not be dropped from Interscope Records despite low U.S. sales. I think she still has a chance to gain ground on Phillip Phillips. Most of those who bought Phillip's music are not as educated as those who bought Jessica's music. I can tell you that Phillip is overrated and Jessica is underrated. If Jessica does not gain ground on Phillip, American Idol will lick the dust.

All 132 million counted votes were cast from the East Coast. The votes from the U.S. other than the East Coast were not counted. Most of the U.S. Jessica Sanchez fans live outside the East Coast, and most of the U.S. Phillip Phillips live in the East Coast. Therefore, the American Idol season 11 finale was fixed. It was all about money, profitability, and self-interest. They did not want Jessica to win, because that would upset Idol's core audience.

Maybe one day I'll download the finale's songs. Hope it doesn't make me less a fan. I prefer Adanna Duru over Jessica Sanchez because:
1. Adanna is complimented on social media more on what should count the most, while Jessica is complimented on social media mostly on her looks.
2. Adanna is more of an uptempo singer, while Jessica is thought of by many of her fans as a ballad singer.

Adanna Duru and Jessica Sanchez both have different types of voices but if you actually out them into a battle where they were given the same song that was manipulated to compliment their voices then for me Jessica will win. But it depends on your preferences. So if you like fast upbeat songs then go be a fan of Adanna but for people like me Jessica would be the clear choice as there is passion, heart, soul and chilling notes. So it's your decision.

The lack of fat in any non-black girl's body means they sound rough, husky, and more rock-ish than blues. Their growls are dry and deliberate, instead of naturally coming from exerting so much power into your voice

I'm gonna commit a ill blasphemy but she nailed this. Better than JHud in my humble opinion. Vocally, technique wise and her repertoire is a ill better than JHud. Her falsetto, her growl, the emotions and the perfect pitch. She is the best that AI had.
Really, she is probably second to jennifer hudson as far as vocal ability goes in the history of idol.
Phillip Phillips is trouncing Jessica Sanchez only because he got a great deal of promotion, while she got lousy promotion and her album was undershipped. Jessica has a larger fanbase, while Phillip has a more devoted fanbase. In order for Jessica to give Phillip a run for his money, she needs proper promotion which Phillip already has. Phillip's style of music is suited mainly to the U.S. market, while Jessica's style of music is more suited to the general public.
2nd place (JESSICA) is a lot better than 7th place (JENNIFER) !

Jordan_1997 Phillip may be more commercially successful, but at the end of the day, Jessica is the real winner. The thing is that Interscope Records did Jessica dirty. Her album was way undershipped in physical sales. Only two copies were shipped per store, and then she was dropped from the label. The album was released only in the United States, Canada, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Phillip failed to repeat the success of his first album with his second and third albums, selling 10% or less than the first. His success is old news. If Interscope treated them equally, Jessica would’ve outsold Phillip. There’s more to life than just commercial success.
It’s a challenge for an Asian recording artist to make it big in the American music industry.
In a nutshell, Phillip Phillips underhandedly outsold Jessica Sanchez, because Interscope well promoted his career and did her dirty. His debut album was released worldwide, and hers was released in only a handful of countries and was under-shipped. It’s the industry’s fault that she flopped, not the people.
