Here in Brasil 🇧🇷 "My Wife & Kids" and "Everybody Hates Chris" are HUGE shows on open TV, but EHC is about a poor family, so there is more identification hahah
I feel like the recasting situation in The Fresh Prince Bel Air is much worse because Aunt Viv becomes pretty much a background character instead of being one of the protagonists, plus the original Aunt Viv has been in the show for three seasons and the original Claire was only in season one.
The original Claire was also kinda just there. The newer one sucked but at least stood out more. The original Aunt Viv was an actually interesting character who added to the overall family dynamic. Her replacement just blended in and was a shell of her original character.
My family used to accuse me of not liking shows with black people but I was like, and I didn't know how to express it at the time: I am not watching any show where every female member of the family has to follow the paper bag test. Bernie Mac Show and Everybody Hates Chris-- I don't remember them well, but these were some of the first black family sitcoms that I really got into. Agree about light skinned and dark skinned Claire being completely different characters, but either way, yes. The way they eventually wrote her character was SO hateful. Just say you hate teenage girls.
When the show became available on Netflix, went ahead to tried to rewatch it out of nostalgia but since the of the the jokes did Not age well I had to stop because a majority of them were offensive, especially by modern day standards
Jay seemed like a nonexistent parent to me in the show. Every time Michael wanted to discipline them she was against it. I’m like what is her solution to anything besides just letting them do whatever.
Carlton and Ashley had the same skin tone. Hilary was light-skinned since Uncle Phil was, while the mother was originally dark-skinned (making Carlton and Ashley in the middle).
@@DBZAOTA482 Ashley though I love her is clearly half Indian and half black, with a full head of Indian hair. Hilary was even lighter than uncle phil so my point still stands

Agreed 100% loved this show as a child but as an adult it’s just typical cookery and buffoonery made to make black people look like a joke, which is par the course for the Wayans family
I am Latina and I grew up watching shows like: 1.Fresh Prince (I think this one is my favorite) 2.Everybody hates Chris 3. My Wife & Kids I also watched these show but don't remember much. I saw family matters and Sister, Sister. I'm sorry if the roster is small. I'm mostly a cartoon head lol
I always thought the rebellious part of me was why I hated him.. But no, he was actually an obnoxious, misogynistic, unfair, annoying, and unbearable father. I would have ran away 😂
"Fresh Prince of Bel-air" kept me company during the 90s. Shout-out to "The Wayans Brothers", "The Jamie Foxx Show" and "In Living Color".5:50 Be safe.
If you've seen scream 2 Omar Epps character was stabbed in the ear. They Parody of scream 2 was Jada pinkett smith's character being loud and ghetto and shawn being Omar Epps being taken out with a p*nis in his ear.
The Show is loosely about Michael Getting to such a good place in his business where he can have more time at home with his wife and kids. Lol.. no pun intended.. And Jay taking advantage of that by goin back to work and school and re-finding herself having been juat a housewife for so long.. And Seeing how He and Her and the kids adjust to that.. amongst observing how Mike & Jay having been teen parents imacts them and their kids well into their middle ages. Despite their successes .. Tho.. it does kinda lose focus on that aspect after the 1st season.
It did have good actors and very memorable moments. As a kid, it was one of my favorites, and I think the humor landed with me as a child, as an adult tho... the humor doesn't land. And then learning the behind the scenes issues with the actors and looking at certain dynamics and jokes with a critical eye... it don't rank for me.
It's so weird, I'm like 80% sure I watched a whole lot of the series when it re-running around the late 2000s and early 2010s, yet I only remember a few moments from it? Not saying that as a dunk on it necessarily lol, but damn I really can't recall much funny stuff from it.
idk i feel like junior did marry vanessa and loved her so she wasn’t just baby mama the show did become a lot more revolved around them tho! as for the recast i get the biracial actor problem but at the same time neither micheal or jay was darkskin (which could be a problem in itself) so light skin claire did fit in more to me and i didnt think either one of them looked mixed but maybe that’s jus me

You look gorgeous bae!! Yes missed this style of videos❤ love it here. And same the self deprecating humor got old and didn't balance showing the love the family had for each other like Fresh Prince did. Maybe that's just how the Wayans family was at home but sometimes it felt like the dad wasn't attracted to the Mom and saw his daughter more valuable for her beauty with the claire switch. Junior showed no growth. And the baby was the baby lol

Haven't watched this show in years, since the mid 2000's, but I guarantee there's some dated not cool stuff there. The 2000s shows, sitcoms, and movies were full of problematic stuff
I love my wife and kids! At least I think I still do lol when i do a rewatch i usually only watch the episode with kat williams and like one other, but i definitely agree where it felt like nothing be happening on that show and theyre just like stuck in the house. And it didnt help that i personally hated the vacation episode so i was like damn.... nevermind.just go back home atp lmao. I guess as a kid i liked it because it felt like stuff was going on but as i got older and watched more sitcoms it was like not much going on to keep me watching despite the cast being funny together
Does anybody notice that Gina and Janet's name was similar? Like Gina waters Payne and Janet Marine kyle? Like the marine and waters idk if I'm reaching. Also I think one thing about Claire's casting is that they attempted to make her more 'femenine' by making her self absorbed. The old Claire was still selfish at times but to me she seemed like a typical teenager who wanted distance from her parents in order to make her own identity, for instance the episode where she doesn't wanna go out with kady and the one where she doesn't want her dad to go bra shopping with her. She also stood up for junior and punched that one kid, whilst the new Claire seemed to be more dependent on junior and more idiotic, thinking her looks would do everything for her whilst the old Claire was insecure, remember when she cut her eyebrows too thin to get the attention of one boy. To put it simply besides their skin tone, their personalites was something that made the character so different throughout the series.
When I started watching My Wife and Kids, they played the episodes where Jay was absent. And I remember thinking, why is the show My Wife and Kids if the wife wasn't around?
In Brazil, shows like My Wife and Kids and Everybody Hates Chris are a pretty universal watching experience. At least for my generation (older gen z) (I'm white)
@@harriyanna I don’t remember the first episode I watched but the one I remember the most of is where Junior’s baby was crying and the dad made everyone leave the room because he had a “secret method” of making a baby stop crying. I was waiting the whole episode to figure out what it was and then the dad made the baby fart 💨 and that fixed it. I thought it was hilarious as a kid.
My Wife and Kids was cool up until halfway thru Season 3. It got too corny up to a point. For me, the inclusion of Franklin as a regular was where the series declined. Eventually, he began getting more screentime than the three Kyle kids. Oh, and then there was the cliffhanger at the end of Season 5. It's cancellation was putting a train wreck out of its misery.

Here in Brasil 🇧🇷 "My Wife & Kids" and "Everybody Hates Chris" are HUGE shows on open TV, but EHC is about a poor family, so there is more identification hahah

I love it when i was a kid but as a adult yeah i just can't
Living Single, A Different World, Sanford and Son is my JAM, The Parkers, and Family Matters
These shows always rely too much on flanderization! Totally a shame.
Jr became borderline special needs towards the end of the show . His character regressed as it went on
Ooh, my God, YES!!! I thought I was the only one recognizing that 😅.
Wake up, Harriyanna just dropped a new banger!!!
Jay seemed like a nonexistent parent to me in the show. Every time Michael wanted to discipline them she was against it. I’m like what is her solution to anything besides just letting them do whatever.
A few of my favorite’s Fresh Prince, the Sinbad Show, Family Matters, The Parenthood, Sister, Sister, and My Brother and Me!
Dark skin son and lighter/ ambiguous daughters are also seen in fresh Prince
Carlton and Ashley had the same skin tone. Hilary was light-skinned since Uncle Phil was, while the mother was originally dark-skinned (making Carlton and Ashley in the middle).
@@DBZAOTA482 Ashley though I love her is clearly half Indian and half black, with a full head of Indian hair. Hilary was even lighter than uncle phil so my point still stands
Haven't even started watching this but i just wanna say THANK YOU. I saw this in my recommendations and clicked instantly, the universe KNEW. I have thought about a video like this for a while now but just didn't have the volition to make it myself. I started rewatching this show a couple years, ago as i grew up watching it, and omg has it become one of my "love to hate" shows i throw on in the background. Between the colorist recasting, the never ending gay "jokes" and the absolute hypocrisy and poor as f parenting...yeah. 💀
My favorites are a tie between That’s So Raven and Everybody Hates Chris.
I’m so glad someone else feels this way about my wife and kids I think Damon as a dad was insufferable not a good parent at all
Agreed 100% loved this show as a child but as an adult it’s just typical cookery and buffoonery made to make black people look like a joke, which is par the course for the Wayans family
I am Latina and I grew up watching shows like:
1.Fresh Prince (I think this one is my favorite)
2.Everybody hates Chris
3. My Wife & Kids
I also watched these show but don't remember much. I saw family matters and Sister, Sister. I'm sorry if the roster is small. I'm mostly a cartoon head lol
I HATE Michael sooo much even when i was a kid watching that show
I always thought the rebellious part of me was why I hated him..
In regards to the mentioned scene in Scary movie, it was supposed to be a play on the scene from SCREAM. Someone gets a knife in the ear.
A different world was definitely a favorite of mine along with half and half
I only watched this show when it aired in reruns late at night and there was absolutely nothing else on.
21:12 she became an accountant at Michael's company (the ep where that happend was probably one of the most mysoginistic eps of the hole show)
thank you for this!
Moesha
Sister Sister
That’s So Raven
Eve
The Parkers
One on One
Fresh Prince
Half & Half ❤
Kenan & Kel ?
I love the office siren aesthetic! ✨️
I'm surprised more comments aren't saying Martin. It's the best show. Everyone was funny and good actors.
You should talk about The Bernie Mac Show that came out in the early 2000s 2001
It's so weird, I'm like 80% sure I watched a whole lot of the series when it re-running around the late 2000s and early 2010s, yet I only remember a few moments from it? Not saying that as a dunk on it necessarily lol, but damn I really can't recall much funny stuff from it.
alot of it is not memorable 😭😭😭 they barely left the living room!
My favorite Early 2000s sitcoms is Half & Half, and that show has a fatphobic problem and a bad parenting problem

"Biracial lightbright."
💀
Yes she's coined that phrase LMFAO 💚

Lol
One on One, Half & Half, Living Single as my top 3
i started watching half and half and i like it so far!!!!
@@ShanariahWilliams-Simpson living single has such healthy group friendship dynamics, I love it 😻
@@ae0nsLiving Single is that girl 🫶🏾🫶🏾
everybody hates chris is my fav sitcom fsss and family matters 😩 fresh prince is a honorable mention
BAYONETTA MENTION AHH🙌🏽, but as for my fav black sitcom, probably everybody hates chris.
everybody hates chris is a classic!
Bayonetta? AVAVAGO!! CELEBRITY IN THIS TOWN!!
idk i feel like junior did marry vanessa and loved her so she wasn’t just baby mama the show did become a lot more revolved around them tho! as for the recast i get the biracial actor problem but at the same time neither micheal or jay was darkskin (which could be a problem in itself) so light skin claire did fit in more to me and i didnt think either one of them looked mixed but maybe that’s jus me
Ok my favorite sitcoms growing up? That's So Raven, Half and Half, and of course Bernie Mac. I remember when the UPN/The U was the channel for black comedy
Is the Lisa Frank pallet for me girl. PERIODT 😌🤍🥹
I know I'm a few days late, Mz Hook I hope that you and your family are safe. Everyone's power went out up here in the Carolina's, and the landscape is brutal, but I'm sure you seen the news by now . Thank you for putting a smile back on my face during this tough time, once again I hope all is well with you, I love your work, stay frosty, with love from Carolina.
Hispanic gringa, I grew up with this show - ridiculous-cute!!!!
I liked when Lilo and Stitch were mentioned!! I liked it felt wholesome with a ridiculous dad, like my dad is.
I also like Everybody Hates Chris and Blackish.
Haven't watched this show in years, since the mid 2000's, but I guarantee there's some dated not cool stuff there. The 2000s shows, sitcoms, and movies were full of problematic stuff
@@nedzed3663 The 90s and 2000s were THE era of "stuff that aged badly", with a few exceptions, simple as that 😅🤗.
LIVING SINGLE!
Parker was in a movie with Alyson Stoner called Alice Upside Down. She played Alyson's new friend from her new school Elizabeth.
Living Single is my favorite sitcom
I love my wife and kids! At least I think I still do lol when i do a rewatch i usually only watch the episode with kat williams and like one other, but i definitely agree where it felt like nothing be happening on that show and theyre just like stuck in the house. And it didnt help that i personally hated the vacation episode so i was like damn.... nevermind.just go back home atp lmao. I guess as a kid i liked it because it felt like stuff was going on but as i got older and watched more sitcoms it was like not much going on to keep me watching despite the cast being funny together
As a Black girl I have never seen or remembering hearing the show "my wife and kids "
If she’s insufferable and you don’t like her kids why’d you marry her?
This was funnier in my head
I’m white but I watched this growing up too. Maybe I’m an anomaly.
you probably are cause my white friends have no idea this exist lmaooo
In Brazil, shows like My Wife and Kids and Everybody Hates Chris are a pretty universal watching experience. At least for my generation (older gen z)
(I'm white)
@@xXmaxtopoulosXx I’m from the US but I watched both of these too. I loved Everybody Hates Chris.
I noticed that there's a lot a light skin women in the show.
That’s So Raven. Easily.
classic!
never thought i’d see a video like this, this is one of my favorite sitcoms 😭. great vid though
When aunt Viv was recasted too it PMO too in Fresh Prince. How is the "dark skin" person always _hard to work with_
aw i done watched this show a billion times so cool u made a vid on it
My Wife and Kids was cool up until halfway thru Season 3. It got too corny up to a point. For me, the inclusion of Franklin as a regular was where the series declined. Eventually, he began getting more screentime than the three Kyle kids.
Oh, and then there was the cliffhanger at the end of Season 5. It's cancellation was putting a train wreck out of its misery.
i can't even get mad at the cliffhanger because the show was just becoming unbearable and was lowkey depending on shock from the audience. also franklin was ANNOYING that's why i barely talked about him lmaooooo
My wife & kids is my most favorite show at all time😊💙💜💙💜💙
Is "The Famous Jet Jackson" a black show?
Yes.
yes!
I loved my wife and kids, it was one of those shows that I would put on at night when other scary/inappropriate stuff were on. It is definitely hard to watch now with all the interesting humor and sexism. 😬
16:25 I would have thought they would have gone with some girl that looks more like Clair.
My faves are The Proud Family, Living Single, Everybody Hates Chris & The Wayans Brothers
