It's weird to me how Madea doesn't have an established family tree. She's just everybody's non-specific grandmother. And the portrayal is plain creepy.
@@monilaninetynine3811 that’s so true , the only established relationship is that Madea had Cora with Mr.Brown. Other than that she’s just auntie madea
Apparently Madea has two daughters and a son, Corra is the only one to end up right apparently, and the other two kids have madea a lot of grandkids. Corra had some kids too I believe
Apparently Tyler Perry thought someone leaked details to the boondocks writers because the scene about the intense prayer circles wasn’t far off his actual practices with the actors
I use to think that the “Why did I get married?” movies were cinematic masterpieces. Then I got into my first healthy relationship as an adult. All of those couples needed either intense therapy or a divorce.
I never thought I'd see someone compare Tyler Perry's work to a Miraculous Ladybug episode, but it makes so much sense. I agree with you that the way Tyler Perry looks down to his audience like that is horrible. Even looking at how he talks about other people in the film/TV industry, he doesn't even need to be putting out work like this and looks down on other Black people in the space as well and it's frustrating. I can reconcile it with how so many of the criticisms surrounding him are shallow and led by insecure cishet men concerned that he's vaguely gay or trans but it doesn't change all the issues, many of which you laid out here. Diary of a Mad Black Woman had a lot of problems but it was at least watchable. It had substance.
like i truly do think his audience fears him. as someone who saw the potential in his earlier work what he makes now is just disappointing and his fanbase doesn’t say anything about it.
I don't watch his movies, but from other comments I've seen from people who do, he DIDN'T direct Diary of a Mad Black Woman. His next movie was the first one directed by him. So those who say Diary is one of his better movies, that's probably why lol.
I discovered his work in high school when I was writing plays for drama class. But when folks started exalting him over better, more talented creators, it left a spur taste in my mouth.
His biggest problem is he doesn't know if he wants to be a comedy writer or drama writer he's trying to do too much most producers stick to 1 genre like the horror people aren't making rom coms.... If that makes sense
Regarding the bathtub scene, if Charles was an innocent man, I would have felt really bad, but Charles treated his wife like dog💩. I've been in an abusive marriage which ultimately ended with a gun being pointed at me. If I had the same opportunity Helen had, I would've done sooo much worse. Plus the fact that Charles was still mistreating Helen while she was only trying to help him during his lowest point? Helen was justified in my book.
Yeah, Tyler Perry needs a writers room. It’s showing time and time again. Is he going to do it in the next two years? Probably not! Thank you for letting us know. I am not watching ‘Divorce In the Black’🤷🏾♂️💯

Granted with the abelism, it does make sense that this is the time she feels like she can fight back. Charles is paralyzed at this point from his neck down, Helen at this point has been with her mother and grandmother her support, who she was previously isolated from because of her abusive husband. She has renewed strength and personhood because of her new support system. We also know Charles is not only mentally and emotionally abusive, but physically so. At the start of the film and in her angry speech she tells and we see that she's underweight and he's already bigger than her and stronger than her. So she would only have this time to get revenge , emotionally and physically. There is quite a bit of nuisance tothat scene, however i do get what you're saying.

17:15 Yeah, her treatment of her now disabled husband, it's just really hard to watch even now. She didn't need to make herself his caregiver, because well, she wasn't a very good one. She should have just left his ass to fend for himself. He had money, he could afford a caregiver. He probably has family. Why does she need to be put herself in the self-sacrificing, selfless Christ-like role in the film? He alienated her from her family, got all types of abusive with Helen, and basically had the audacity to throw her out of her own home because his mistress and his kid were moving in.

He doesn't hire any other black creative, leading into more jobs and opportunities for black people in the film and television industry. Atlanta, having more black businesses is great.
