    Dude, I really don't want to turn this into an end term paper so I'll be brief. In the sea of alpha males, bald cafes, hair loss gurus and all the other goofs it's really refreshing to find a down to earth guy that just lays down his experiences, tips and plain facts. Your standpoint towards "just shave it, bro" is absolutely what I've been feeling ever since I got concerned with hair loss. So far, after 5 years I've got some recession in the temple area and I think that within 2-3 years I'll have to jump aboard the finasteride boat. I don't give a shit about how people perceive me, what I get or don't get whether I am or am not bald. However, I do give a shit about what I like and what I want and that is having a choice of either growing my hair out or cutting it. I used to shave my head completely bald in my mid teens, however even then my hairline was still visible and somewhat framed my face. I think the impact balding has on young men's life is utterly trivialized and is causing more damage than good. That whole self-esteem movement that just tells you to lay down your arms, give up and accept this new shitty condition contradicts the follow your dreams attitude that is so prevalent in the Western culture. If you do like the bald look and balding doesn't concern you at all then more power to you, but belittling guys that continue the fight is one fucked up behavior that I hope will vanish over the next decade or so.

    Good list!
    I think micro pigmentation is stupid too.
    Another thing people don't realize is that in most cases you need more than one hair transplant. It is almost impossible to get full density in a completely bald patch like the temporal region and hairline in one hair transplant treatment. Only so many hairs can be placed per cm to have a high success rate. I am going to be getting a second hair transplant in a few months to make the front hairline more dense.
    Also a lot of time lighting is very deceiving in videos or pictures that you see of a hair transplant results. Mine will look good in a lot of lighting but when a light shines right on it it looks like crap!

    Scalp pigmentation can be great I think if you have limited donor supply and therefore end up with a crown that still has hair, but is a bit sparse (20-30 FU/cm2). Using a bit of micropigmentation can really help making it seem less see through.
    Better than dumping more grafts into the crown when they could have been in the front.

    I 100% agree with your stance on scalp micropigmentation. People don't seem to realize that once you get a tattoo, it fades over time but does not totally disappear. So, if you get scalp micropigmentation, you'll have to likely have the procedure redone every 5 years or so, but the previous ink will stay in your scalp, and the hair you have in the DHT safe zone will change color over time. Thus, eventually, you will have a base color on the top of your head one color, that will not be easy to totally mask, even with a new tattoo, and the sides will be a different color where your real hairs are. Long term, you are screwed. Plus, what people also don't know is that those that have this done cannot use specific razors to shave their heads, as they risk damaging the tattoo. They also, as you said, must shave every day, or they look horrible when the side hairs come in. So, it is an enormous pain in the ass, and it looks fake for anyone with a pair of eyes. Do not do it. Better go bald with dignity, and not go around looking like an insecure dude with a tattoo on his head.

Also, does taking creatine have any effects on hairloss? Does it increase DHT?

      Thank you.
      I think laser treatments are scamful, I talk about it in my 5 overrated treatments for hair loss video.
      Foam dries much faster, I liquify it and apply it like liquid, much more convenient.
      Also creatine doesn't cause an increase in DHT, if it did it would be linked to a whole bunch of problems like enlarged prostate and acne, possibly even prostate cancer.
      There is one obscure study involving rugby players suggesting a small increase but the sample size was very small, not a particularly good study.

    About mistake number 9, as a woman, we do not have much treatment option, so I started with minoxidil first and now I am adding finasteride, because I think it is superior to spironolactone as it targets specifically the DHT and both medicines are forbidden to women who are pregnant, brestfeedind or plan to conceive anyway. I think finasteride would adress the hairloss problem better, since I have normal leves of testosterone, so spironolactone cannot do much for me.
    Thank you for the information.

    Hi Haircafe. Since you mentioned minoxidil being detrimental to stop using even in conjunction with finasteride, I have a question. I'm 24 and experiencing pretty noticeable thinning of my crown as well as a receding of my hairline, but the crown is really where it's bad. I was thinking of getting a finasteride prescription + minoxidil to help me combat it. But at the moment, would it be more beneficial to just try out finasteride on its own and see what happens? Finasteride seems a lot more easy to use in comparison, and it'd suck if i eventually stopped using minoxidil and lost a ton of progress..

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  5 лет назад +1

      Afraid scalp massages and brushes aren't going to do squat, hair loss is caused by genetic sensitivity to androgens, not lack of blood flow as even a bald man 's scalp will bleed if you cut it, its also why men are bald far more often than women.
      As for leave on treatments, I guess it depend son what you mean by that. If you're talking about topicals like minoxidil, stemoxydine, alfatradiol, RU58841, etc then yes those will work.

    My androgenic alopecia began with a big shed in July of 2014 (age 20) I searched online to see what was going with me and I read about telogen effluvium and that sounded like what I was going through so i didn’t worry about it because it claimed to be temporary.
    After continuing to shed for months, and no regrowth for over a year, I went to dermatologist august 2015 and they gave me a prescription of Finasteride. I was too terrified to take it due to internet hype of impotency. at this point I’ve been having terrible inflammation in my follicles that i’ve never ever experienced before in my life until dealing with hairloss.
    I weened myself on to generic Finasteride in December 2016 in hopes to halt hairloss. I had no side effects whatsoever, besides a little groin ache every so often. After a month of finasteride my inflammation on my scalp went away i would say 75%, every so often I would have this really itchy inflammation feeling on my scalp but no where near as bad as it was before, I believe i was shedding a little less.
    After a year of Finasteride I came to the conclusion that it hadn’t completely halted my hairless as I was still progressing. I do believe it slowed down my hairloss a little bit but hadn’t completely halted my hairloss which i was hoping. I also continued to have the scalp inflammation but not as bad as before i began the drug.
    January 2018 I began to add brand name Dutasteride AVODART to my DHT blocking regiment (.5mg every day) aiming to halt my hairloss, I was (am still) nearing norwood3 and I didn’t want any further progression or at least slow it down to a crawl.
    Me and Avodart got a lot very well ,and just after one month I had no more shedding at all, and 99% of my scalp itch went away I was so happy. one time i felt a little tingle in one follicle on the way to store, I really think adding DUT slowed my hairloss even more completely and it felt like it was halted
    In the middle of March 2018 I was nearing my 3 month mark on DUT and my hair had never felt better in 3 years I was doing so well I had never missed a day.
    Thinking about the long half life of Dutasteride, I was thinking it would be ok to go 2 days with out it while I went out of town to visit family. because I was thinking it my DHT levels wouldn’t move at all. also I’ve read people on the message boards do the same thing with no problem, and even Spencer Kobren says intermittent therapy works with 5 alpha reductase inhibitors. so I was feeling confident that two days without would do no harm
    After the second day of missing Dutasteride my scalp/follicles began to feel really itchy and inflamed like just before my DUT therapy began . i was upset. I was doing so well on the drug and the itch is not all in my head I’ve considered it It really hit my hard again my scalp was so itchy.
    I waited two weeks for the itch to go away, I began to take double the amount of Dutasteride on April 2nd 2018 in hoping that inhibiting more DHT would make it go away (as it did when i switched from FIN to DUT) but the inflamation it hadn’t really gotten any better or worse.
    nearing the end of April, I had been taking 2 Avodart pills every day (1g total) for almost a month, scalp inflammation is still present as it was a month ago, also I’ve just began to shed a lot a couple days ago.
    so presently…..
    I am thinking is to get off the drug (DUT) a little after the end of this month. And then begin again at the start of next year. I am Aiming to restart this whole Dutasteride Process in my body as it was going so well in the beginning until I ****ed it up by skipped a couple days which i am realizing is not good for some people as it is forgiving to others
    Im going to stay of Finasteride until the end of the year and let all of the DUT get out of my system, and then start again January 2019 as a restart of taking in hoping that the inflammation will go away as I believe inflammation and hairless rate correlate together.
    I was looking for any advice or thoughts on getting off the drug and then getting back onto it. as i have never had DHT levels rise again, I have only had them lowered, has anybody had any side effect with DHT levels rising?
    Or does anybody have any thoughts or advice? I am nearing NW3 and I have a girlfriend I just met who doesn’t really notice me balding just might notice my diffuse thinning. I do think she started to notice me shedding in the past couple days (shedding sucks)
    All I want is this hairless to halt. I think DHT blockers is the answer to that as I think I will not respond well to Minoxidil. also don’t ever really hear good things about minoxidil

    i got the smp done it looks good but it fades thats the only problem with it and if you wash your head with shampoo or anything within 2 months it will make it even fade more! But i do like it and its cheaper it will cost about 1500 per visit one is enough but if you destroy it with shampoo or lots of sweating in the first 2 months but regular workout is ok if you dont sweat alot, you will have to go back and do it again. Most place will give you a deal and they will charge 1500 for the first 2 visits after that its 350 or something like that, but at some point you will probably have to lazer remove the tats also so i will do that eventually.

    I am glad that I stumbled upon your videos, very informative. started to notice I was going thin on my crown when I was about 33. I'm now 39. For the first few years, I was just taking over the counter vitamins as requested by a hair doctor. I had very little results and decided to get a prescription for finasteride and I've been using that for the last year. I have definitely noticed results, far more in the last year than the previous few with the over the counter vitamins. I think I would start like to start using minoxidil along with the finasteride but wanted to get your advice first. Do you feel that is a wise decision?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks.
      Frankly, I would hold off on the minoxidil for the time being. Minoxidil has a different mechanism of action than something like finasteride since it does not affect hormones in any way. As a result anything you gain with minoxidil must be maintained with minoxidil. It doesn't treat hair loss strictly speaking since it doesn't go after the cause of hair loss which is DHT, it is a hair growth stimulant that promotes hair growth in spite of DHT and it works synergistically with an anti androgen like finasteride.
      So minoxidil definitely helps but you'll have to commit to it for life and that's saying a lot since it has some cosmetic detriments such as promoting dandruff and it is genuinely a pain in the ass to use. The liquid takes about four hours to dry and makes the hair loos greasy as Hell.
      If you do start minoxidil, try the foam and if you have long hair then melt the foam down into a liquid using a hot air dryer and then apply it as you would apply liquid minoxidil.
      Honestly though, finasteride is a great stand alone treatment and I'd just enjoy being able to get away with that for as long as you can, there is a chance you may not ever need anything else.

    • @kennyd6847
      @kennyd6847 5 лет назад

      Kevin Mann thanks so much for the great and honest advice, it's very hard to find online. I am not sure what I am going to do but will weigh out both options. If I use them both together will I still continue gains with the finasteride? If so I would be ok using the foam now to accelerate the growth and perhaps a couple years down the road quit using the foam and see how it now loos with just finasteride? it to see results. Perhaps I wouldn't need the foam anymore due to the gains by the finasteride?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  5 лет назад +1

      Kenny D No problem and yes you will still maintain everything you've gained with finasteride so long as you stay on it.
      Minoxidil might give you some regrowth but keep in mind minoxidil doesn't work for everybody. Minoxidil's success depends on the presence of the enzme sulfotransferase and only about 38 percent of people will get results from it.
      It might work for you but any additional benefits you get from minoxidil can only be maintained with minoxidil. So if you stop minoxidil everything will go back as if you were just using finasteride granted you've gotten good results from the drug so that might not be a bad thing.

    • @kennyd6847
      @kennyd6847 5 лет назад

      Kenny D Nah, I just got lucky and minoxidil worked for me. It was my first treatment though as I was just desperately looking for anything that could save my hair and minoxidil was the easiest to acquire.
      In retrospect I wish I had just started on finasteride and held out on minoxidil for when I really needed it, if ever.

    I am fighting hair loss with natural supplements. I was using for many years minoxidil and i stopped it . I started with saw Palmetto and continued with pumpkin seeds and many others. I am very optimistic about it. After 4-5 years journey i believe that i am in a good position right now. Minoxidil, i believe that after many years of using stops working, probably because your body gets used to it. If you have thinning hair that progress slowly and not going bald fast, i think that you can fight it with a combination of vitamins and herbs.
