Quite right about your thinking. I'm Colombian and have been to Paraguay twice in the last 6 months, and I've noticed there is quite a lot of scope for setting up business in a smaĺl o large scale over there. I'll be moving over there in the near future as a plan B due to the turmoil going on everywhere and feel Paraguay can be even a better country for all the resources that more independent people will bring into the country. Congratulacions for allowing this debate.

As a New Zealander, (currently with an English business and family over in South Korea) I have similar sentiments about (not) going back. I think it depends. It's always better when a country develops with mostly its own internal means. Otherwise it tends to be stuck in a cycle of having to import knowledge and capital, as Latin America has been for more than 200 years, unlike east Asian countries which broke off the cycle in less than 50 years. I think there's no problem with any individual person moving to a country that is willing to welcome them and setting up a business or taking a job, that said, I can think of many reasons why countries would rightfully prefer to protect their markets to give the chance and incentives for local to thrive only using foreign capital and expertise under specific terms and as much as necessary
I agree, countries should control immigration in a way the best serves those who live there. I think that's why Paraguay allows foreigners to work here. For Paraguay, that's what is working well. There may come a time when that needs to change. The thing about Paraguay is it is rapidly developing and so theoretically external expertise is necessary to guide that along. It's a complex topic.
Your friend in Nicaragua doesn't seem to understand how economy works. May be he had been fed the woke pill.
If there is a need for a service or product, anyone can step in to provide that for mutual benefit. Granted, the locals often are unable to come up with the initial investment, but that wouldn't change if a foreigner just refuses to fill that niche himself.
Just look at the Chaco. There was nothing going on there until the Menonites came and turned the barren land into a thriving community, not just for themselves, but also for the locals.
The Paraguayans I spoke to are very happy about "rich" westerners coming to the country because they invest, create jobs and spend money. Win-win situation. No worries.
Correct. A good example is the Mennonite Hospital. We went there recently, it was brilliant. I do think my friend had been spanked with the woke stick in his youth.

As other commenters have noted I agree that's good insight and nuanced arguments on the issue. It's not really an issue though is it (except for your mate) as Paraguay is seeking out resourceful migrants who can build business, hire locals and improve the economy. I work online. Just being here in the country through consumption supports the economy. I still have contacts. Meet with Paraguayans privately and talk in everyday life. Also put media in Spanish. Then the language works. Except Guarani. But I'm learning this now with a friend. Saludos

Being from that neck of the woods yourself am I a bit mad if I go to NZ nowadays?
Is it just as bad as Europe as far as the whole dystopian tyranny type stuff going on?
Look up D5. It stands for 5 Digital Nations. NZ is one of the 5 nations that is going full throttle digital control. NZ was at the tip of the tyrant spear (apart from Canada) during the global medical experiment. If Paraguay was not an option for us we would try many other countries before going back to NZ. We initially lived in Australia (where I am from). That went nuts years ago so we left and moved to NZ in 2010. NZ was comparatively awesome then. But they've rolled out a totalitarian program in record speed and now, if we had no other options, we would go back to Australia before NZ. That's how far it's fallen. The elites have special plans for NZ. It's club and we're not in it.

Ahhh what a bloody shame about NZ, it seemed like such lovely culture, place and people there, pity I never got to see it while it was still free but you can't win them all I suppose!

@@tubbyrainbow111 Yes, I was in OZ when it was locked down. I managed to argue my way out because I had a property in NZ. That had a big impact on the way I see things now. The next time the lockdown might be permanent.
You will be going from the frying pan into the fire 🔥 moving from Europe to NZ. The EU is becoming one state with rules written in Brussels. NZ only recently managed to get rid of their female dictator (but I am sure she has like minded cronies still running the place). It’s all part of the bigger picture…. ask Klaus or Bill Gates….. 🤔
