The fact that Rick is able to just carry on after losing Lori, Glenn, Hershel, Abraham and Carl shows just how strong of a leader and man he is in the show. He knows he must go on no matter how broker he is from losing people he loves he knows there still other people help and protect.
Rick should have sent out scouts and found a comparable location to Alexandria and moved out of the Savior’s reach. There was nothing special about the Alexandria community? There would be thousands of better options that were more secure and secluded/defensible. With the group they had and the weapons, they could clear a new area and not bother with the destructive war they fought with Negan. Major plot hole.
One leadership trait i learned from Ricks character is rhay you have to care about people and care about how they are doing. Just knowing you care enough to ask them goes a long way especially in a work setting where uou work as a team.
If you want to be quote "A good leader," that all starys with how you lead yourself as a person. You cannot be something to others that you are not first and foremost to yourself. You have to demonstrate through your actions and lifestyle that you are capable of leading yourself, and when others see that, then they will follow. For example, I use to work for a guy, who even when I would show up on time, I would end up having to wait on him sometimes 2 to 3 hours, and what that did was made me lose not only respect for him bit also for the job in itself, as in: "He's not serious about the job, so why should I be, and why should he expect me to be." People will follow your example, not your words alone. Where the shepherd goes, the flock follows.
Rick did a little scouting and found a community that is thriving in the apocalypse and they taught him the 5 ways on how to earn respect from his group.

The fact he was held captive for 8 years alone at CRM and kept going after all this Rick is the GOAT.
It's sad how Rick became so overconfident during season 6 until Negan reminded him that he wasn't the only warlord roaming around.
fact
Oh but rick kills him.... almost

If it wasnt for michonne nick would die similar to siddiq
@Mr.darkredd Rick only "beat" Negan by exploiting the death of his son.
