Interesting test, nice video. The only thing we can assume is that Takumi got scared/shocked and slowed down during that whole sequence which allowed Kai to pass him.

Yeah, you can tell by the 86’s movement when the MR2 took off, it clearly slowed down, probably out of fear of getting crashed into
I think another issue this tackles is that Kai was using the jump even after passing Takumi to widen the gap. And thus Takumi had no choice but to copy Kai to keep up. But we see here that if Kai continued using the jump, it would only slow him down.
Clearly, the reason Kai lost is making Takumi angry by the tackles.
@@riceball52 It was purely plot driven. Takumi realistically wouldn't have even seen him.
2:21 You can see right there, is where Kai would have been as the white car, Takumi would have been ahead of the first MR2 there. He wouldn't have even been in a position to think he was going to get hit. The only probable reason for Takumi to actually slow down was thinking Kai crashed.
Even a whole chart, for the different styles of jumping/not jumping, through the turn!! That's serious work!!

区間タイムは遅いとはいえ、アニメ、漫画版の地元走りが段差に突っかかったりサスが跳ねまくったりせず一番安定していることに驚きました!
タイム的なショートカットにはならなくても、バトルにおいては本来ありえない死角を突いて無理矢理にでも前に出れる有効な戦法なのかも?
普通はあり得ない様な走り方をする事で相手の動揺を誘うという意味ではアリかもね。
あとこの地元走りは自分が前にいる時の方が恩恵でかいんじゃないかと思う。

The reason the jump is faster is that when he is going to jump, he stops in the middle of the road, blocking the path. So the other cars racing him have to completely stop and start again when he is already on the other corner

Hm.... Basically, Takumi's after all this time is the fastest line.. The original Irohazaka jump is just some sort of attack attempt hoping that opponent scared of potential collision thus have to fall back. Still, rally corner cut technique is a far better alternative to this. (If car suspension and stuff in mind)
You can pause at 2:21, No driver would be afraid of being hit. The white MR2 is practically 3 car lengths behind.

Picture this:
At 2:31, the corner before the target corner, Kai puts pressure on Takumi by faking a dive down the inside, causing Takumi to overshoot his braking and go wide (it's normal for a racing driver to fall apart under pressure.) Now Kai is side by side with Takumi going into the target corner, with Kai on the outside. On the way to the target corner, seeing Kai right beside him on the outside, Takumi gets flashbacks of when he put pressure on Nakazato by attacking from the outside when they raced at Akina.
Here comes the target corner. Kai is still putting pressure on Takumi.
Takumi being squeezed between Kai & the barrier, he locks his brakes again, going wide at the apex.
Knowing that this would happen, Kai brakes early, takes a sharp left & ovetakes Takumi.

I feel like the jump would be better for the defensive than the offensive since you force your opponent to both slow down and take the longer path.
yeah its probably a decent block, and might work for a pass 1 time if it spooks your opponent or if they took the corner badly.

After rewatching multiple times, I honestly can't tell what red did differently from silver to end up out wide and falling behind. If anything, it looks like he took a wider entry and a later apex. Just plain turned into too late?

I've seen the speed drift technique but have no idea on how to actually perform it. At first glance it looks like you enter a corner with a drift but cut off throttle until you reach the apex so that the cars weight distribution is at its most neutral point where all 4 tyres can get more grip then gradual acceleration when exiting the apex. Further insight would definitely be appreciated :)
It's essentially "Drift-In, Grip-Out" IMO, you can accelerate earlier than pure gripping with car already pointed to the exit.
Have you made a graphic settings tutorial on your channel ? your settings seems so realistic!

Well, it should proably work if the driver was new to the course like Tkumi practically was, but yeah it is not the faster way around a corner.

2:40 Takumi's line was way, way wider, he went very wide. Plus, he used drift and admitted that he was going slower then he should be. Plus, MR-2 was tuned. If you add all that, you'll come to the conclusion that this jump is indeed possible in those circumstances.
