Honeysuckle I have, feel in love with savory oatmeal the first time I had it. I just cook up my oatmeal add some salt n pep. Some spinach with green onion. Topped off with a easy over egg. But I do cheat a little bit, I like to drizzle a little maple syrup over the top. Just remindeds me of when my pancake syrup mixes with my egg and bacon. 😊
The oatmeal ya, but I feel the egg would be rubbery. You can always throw the pre-made oatmeal in the microwave and while you're waiting for it to heat up fry the egg up.
This is sounding soooo good! I used be a sweet breakfast person until I was diagnosed with Adrenal Insufficiency. Now I’m all about the savory. Guilty confession, I eat ramen/soup for breakfast almost everyday. But this, what a great way to use oatmeal and get a jumpstart on your veggies for the day. Thanks!! And about you little munchkin. All three of my kids (a singleton and twins) would have really rough sleeping nights if they didn’t stay on their nap and bedtime schedule. That said, life gets busy, so when it got to be an especially rough day, I would put them to bed early. It always seemed so contradictory, but they would sleep better during the night and even sleep later into the morning. A simple thing to try to see if it helps. Good luck ;)
Yep, I'm one of those whom prefer savory breakfasts over sweet ones. I have a much more difficult time eating sweet, cold stuff in the morning. My body craves savory protein. But this definitely will do the trick! Erisy at the end is so awwww!!!
I can consume both sweet and savory foods in the morning. Sometimes I could literally just have a banana in the morning and be energized until lunch time. I guess different people prefers different types of food in the morning :)
Sending you big hugs. The fact that you're not getting much sleep & baby isn't either & you're still manage to do these vlogs for us, much appreciated. You're a champion.
I work in child development and to me it sounds like your kiddo is having a wonder week - it's exactly what you said about her having a "leap". When kids have a wonder week where they're making a big developmental stride it can really disrupt their sleep Bc their little brains are working over time! Also, it can be helpful (but also frustrating lol) to remember that her sleep schedule might/is likely to change all the time as she hits developmental milestones. Hang in there mama!
Our babies are born just a few weeks apart! My baby just went through that stage and is now getting over it. I was reading about it and people say that it's normal for their sleep schedule to be completely off at this age; normally it means they are going through a developmental milestone (trying to stand, trying to crawl, etc.) so they are distracted and not focusing on sleeping. Once they reach whateber that milestone is, they'll sleep like normal again. Mine went through that stage and got over it. Yours will too! ❤
I used to do a very similar recipe but with rice. Only thing was it took forevvvveerrrr. Never thought of making this kind of congee recipe with porridge. This saves so much time and tastes just as good!!! THANKS
Vietnamese subtitles is great! Because my family members, some of them do not know English so I can't share your recipes with them. Even I sometimes find it confusing in understanding every thing you said. Good work, please keep going!
You're amazing, mama! I'm a 2-time long term breastfeeding mom and my daughters are now 5 & 9 (nursed for 2 years each). Sounds like your little miss is in a growth spurt. Their schedules always go all chaotic during those times! You're doing amazing. It may take 2-3 weeks during her spurts for things to settle out. She picks up on your energy more than anything so just stay upbeat and encouraging like you were with her yesterday and she'll feel comfy again and be ready to nap for you in a couple more weeks (or less) after her growth spurt. Keep up your wonderful mommying, you're the best :)
I love how you stopped to chat about Erisy while the oatmeal was cooking. It makes it feel like I’m in the kitchen with a friend. 💕😊 Can’t wait to try this recipe. I LOVE oatmeal for breakfast! 😋
it Has happened to my baby more than once. and what doctors said is that when something big and new is happening in the baby's life they keep processing it in their sleep. for example standing up, crawling, walking, learning something that is out of the normal of being a baby who eats and sleep... it doesn't last so long give her another week :)
I been doing savory for years using steel cut oats because of the mouthfeel and with the consistency of jook or congee. Sometimes use leftover Costco chicken meat with using Choi sum and Chinese parsley or cilantro. Basically use whatever in my refrigerator that makes sense. Great video showing the versatility of oatmeal!
Hi!!! I'm an aunty but I live with my niece, but even that I may not have the best advices... What worked for my niece was playing a lot with her while she was awake (stiking to the schedule you want to have) and when she got tired just try to get everything condition for her sleep maybe complete silence, some relaxing background music, lights... But even that it's just pacience I'm sure you are going to get her back on track!
In Vietnam, congee is associated with savoury. We cook congee in bone to bring out the flavour, serve it with pepper, chilli flake, mussels, minced pork, even eels. Oat gives the texture resembling to congee, and always remind me of the savoury experience. So as a Vietnamese student being abroad i occasionally cook savoury oat/congee to “make myself at home”
I always eat savory oatmeal, in India we also get instant masala oatmeal though making it at home is very easy and trust me tastes really good and healthy too:-) ,BTW love this series.
My savory oatmeal this morning was with kale, scallions, and garlic. Added some sliced fresh tomatoes 🍅, and topped with Maldon sea salt, fresh cracked pepper, and fresh thyme with a drizzle of evoo. I need to add an egg next time for sure!
Oh, and some thinly segmented oranges 🍊; orange 🍊, thyme, evoo, and Maldon sea salt is such an Italian Combo. It’s actually based on Giada’s morning oatmeal
I had started swapping my rice for a bowl of oatmeal, serving it with what ever was cooked for dinner. Hubby thought I was nuts l! Lol I figured I was getting some good fibre while reducing my rice intake. Thank you for the delicious recipe. Will try it soon!
This is my first time publicly commenting on any YT video because I’m a very silent viewer but I just got to say that this recipe is uh-ma-zing!!!!! Thank you so much for this and I can’t wait to make this on a chill Saturday morning already! Sending love and hugs to you and your little family
think I'll make mine thicker, add some chicken stock instead of water, add a bit of garlic and herb into the veggies, and add a fried egg instead... that being said, this is a fantastic springboard for a savory breakfast!
I never heard of savory oatmeal before. I look forward to trying it. The first two years are the sleep deprivation years. You will one day miss them years down the road. They have baby body wash with lavender for helping them relax in the evenings. Chamomile as well. Cool things to chew on helps sooth painful gums. I hope she gets back on her schedule soon. Hugs to you both.
Hi. My oldest daughter did not slept through the night until she was 2 years old, nothing helped, now that that she is older (9 years old), she is quite active and smart does not like to sleep she finds it boring. My youngest daughter slept through the night when she was one week old, and she is a sleepy monster haha. What I meant with this, is that it depends a lot on your child's personality, it helps cutting the naps shorter and keeping her more active, maybe she has to much energy, maybe you can try feeding her with, we call it in Ecuador machica, is something that makes it thicher so they are more full and less likely to wake up. Try everything until you find something that works for your child. Each one is so different it takes time to find out what works best. Great video!
You’re doing a great job! My oldest daughter (now 2 and a half) has always been the worst sleeper and she STILL gives me a harder time some nights than my 2nd (4 months old) ever has 😭 I have tried EVERYTHING with her. The best (and sometimes most annoying lol) advice I have been given is to remind myself that one day I will miss this. And I actually do miss some of those late nights or super early drives to Starbucks and the park at 4:30am because I gave up on trying to get her back to sleep 😂 I can laugh now but I totally know what it’s like to be IN it 😫😫😫 you’re doing great and one day you will miss this!! 💗💗💗
I randomly ran into this video and thought it was super weird to have chicken broth oats (!?!) I ran into the kitchen and replaced the mushrooms with fried ham and the kale with spinach. I am writing while I am eating!! This is amazing!
Hello from japan~ In my country oatmeal isn’t a common ingredient(at least from my experience) so I wasn’t sure how to cook it. I also prefer savory foods to sweet ones, so this tutorial helped me a lot! Luckily All the other ingredients are replaceable with common Japanese ingredients like mushroom and kale, so I’ll be making this as soon as I get the package of oat meal. English is very easy to hear too.
I’ve never tried savory oatmeal but I do love savory grits. I make my grits with an egg, cheese, sriracha and spinach or kale or edamame. This seems extra similar so I’ll have to surely give it a try.
Baby is definitely going through a growth spurt! Their sleep schedule and even eating habits change so much! Teething will also interfere with her routine! My little man is still going through all these phases...he's 17 months! Don't worry she'll be back to her norm very soon! Parenting is definitely not easy! I feel you girl! ❤
I love savory oatmeal! Will definitely be giving this a try. She could be going through a sleep regression, just go with it mama and know you’re doing the best you can!
Just made this for lunch. It was so good! I didn’t have kale or mushrooms so I used zucchini. It was definitely worth repeating :) Thanks for the recipe!
I've tried this savoury oatmeal and it's so delicious! I just added the egg and that was enough for me. Thanks for this video. Now I want to have savoury oatmeal everyday! 😍
This looks amazing I might cook onions with it too. I understand how you feel when it comes to parenting. It seems like you have it all figured out then something throws a wrench in it. Leap, growth spurt, teething. I find with Leaps and growth spurts it never really goes longer then a week for me. Teething is another story some kids are great some not so much. Also she could be adjusting her sleep schedule and needing less naps. I hope she starts sleeping better for you soon.
It sounds like she's growing... kiddos usually have trouble sleeping when they have growing pains. My daughter's pediatrician recommended Infant's Motrin or Tylenol when that happened, and it worked like a charm. I hope this helps, but check with your pediatrician first.
Hey there. Difusing calming oils like lavender, cedarwood & vetiver (liquid baby sleep) should help your precious little baby. I’m a DoTerra wellness advocate and I swear by these fantastic oils. Also Juniper berry helps with nightmares if you feel that what she’s experiencing. My sweet babies are all grown up now - hang in there because they grow out of it all eventually. Let me know if I can help in any way.
It differs from baby to baby, but what we do is try to stick to what we have been doing so baby forms some sleep/nap association. eg milk before nap time, always napping in the crib in the same place.. but we also take heed from some of his cues, like dropping naps from every 2 hours when he was much smaller, to 2 naps a day, to now transitioning to 1 nap a day at 16.5 months. There was a point in time when we were so frustrated trying to get him to just lie down instead of “exploring” his crib.. eventually we decided you know what if you’re not napping, mummy/daddy’s gonna nap! So we laid down on the floor next to the crib closed our eyes and “ignored” his invites to play or “chat”.. and he laid down by himself and was asleep within 10mins. There were days when he got away with not taking his pm nap tho... we ended up with a cranky monster by evening 😅
I love your videos! I have a baby close in age too and he went through the same thing! It could be a number of things, it could be a developmental milestone, teething or in my case my son was trying to drop a nap and went from 3-4 naps a day to 1-2 and he would sleep more soundly through the night! I hope this helps.
Totally bring your baby on filming again! I have a 9 month baby too (and a 5-year old), so I relate to you when you hold the baby in one hand and cook with another! Go mommy! :) And as for slipping - you said she might be teething, by doctor suggested a medicine to lower the inflamation and calm down the baby at night, maybe yours can suggest a remedy too? If not, then your little one just needs a lot of momy love right now! Stay strong and cuddle with your baby ;)
This looks really good. I just recently come across the idea of savory oatmeal. I've always had sweet oatmeal since I was a child, so this is REALLY new for me. Could you do something with cream of wheat (or farina) and grits? I've always had them as savory, but I've noticed lately that there are sweet versions of them, which I can't seem to wrap my head around. Just some ideas on making them healthier, be they sweet or savory. And your baby is absolutely adorable!!
I think I'm going to actually try this. I had no idea you could make salty oatmeal, or that you could make it with broth! It's a simple idea, but it had never come to me.
Armenians eat a savory oatmeal type of thing too called Harissa! It's like a cross between oatmeal and congee. It's made from cracked wheat and chicken (my fam used to make it with leftover turkey after Thanksgiving/Christmas)! (if you look it up you have to search armenian harissa or else you'll get a different harissa spice :) )
I start my diet plan by having a tasteless oatmeal just because of I don't like it in any sweet ways,so just getting through RUclips in hope to find some "salty" recipe then found your chanel which is just perfect for me😊
Love love LOVEEEE THISSS!! 💖💖 can't wait to try this for breakfast. This warm savoury oatmeal is the perfect breakfast for those cold cold winter days! Thanks c:
My 4 year old child doesn’t nap and hasn’t napped since she was about 2. It’s brutal, but I prefer her to sleep at night. Sometimes that occasional nap causes her to stay up until midnight. Drives me nutty but we get through.
Hi I was wondering how many months is your baby? I work in Infant care and most of the time babies do have a harder time sleeping when it comes to teething.
My mom told me that when I was a baby, she would stay on a very strict schedule and had me feed for half an hour, then play for half an hour, then sleep for two hours. Then, once I woke up, she would feed me for half an hour, play for half an hour, and have me sleep for two hours. This cycle happened all day long until bedtime. I would usually sleep the whole night! :) Great recipe by the way, I looove savory oats!
Never had it this way. But growing up mom would make sweeten oatmeal and I always ate it with a boiled egg inside of it. I thought I was the only one who ate oatmeal and eggs. Well sweet oatmeal lol I so wanna try this. Just Love your energy and I hope all goes well with the baby.
Thanks for the recipe! The mushroom and kale idea is awesome. I don’t really care for sweet breakfasts either and the hubby is wanting to eat healthier so this is something to help get him started. Since he HATES eggs with a passion I may use a hollandaise sauce to disguise them. He’ll never know it’s egg. :)
In Vietnam, we only eat sweet food as desserts and snacks so sweet breakfast sound weird and honestly, nasty for me, sorry for that. I always eat instant oatmeal, no seasonning but with a tiny bit of traditional Vietnamese salted fish or shrimp, or a tiny bit of dried fish, also traditionally made, and some fresh veggies grown in my backyard. If i feel even lazier than i already am lol, i’ll eat the oatmeal with a bit of fish sauce. It may be weird for y’all but i swear it is delicious
Hahaa your video's never fail to make me smile, such a great idea hope I can try it out soon! I hope Erisy gets back to her sleeping pattern soon🙌 ALSO have you tried peeling boiled eggs with the water in a container method?
it's probably a growth spurt or they go in and out of cutting naps/ fighting them. Just get into a routine of consistent bedtime and naptime and adjust when you need to. more than likely you are doing everything you need to, it's probably just a stage :)
Was thinking you seemed a bit more flustered or lost these last few videos. Hope things get back on track soon. No matter what you gotta love that adorable kid!! As far as breakfast (as well as desserts, though not healthy living) I personally really love fruit based dishes. Nothing better than a variety of parfaits. Also, my brother drinks a lot of protein powder and I've been trying to convince him to put it in a smoothie but he doesn't like banana. A green smoothie and other smoothies for breakfast might be just the thing. Any suggestions for using protein powder in them (mostly choc but vanilla too?)
I love savory meals. I just finish a breakfast of oatmeal and leftover chili con carne - I'm full as a tick.. Watching your video, I noticed I was drooling. Oh my! Anyway, more savory oatmeal please.
Great recipe! I'm down for having savory oatmeal, I think here in the states we are more prone to sweet breakfasts for whatever reason lol. For your baby girl I'd say try to keep her as active as possible during the hours that you don't want her to sleep so that it'll help her be a bit tuckered out for the time that you do want her to sleep.
It's day 18!!! Have you had Savory Oatmeal before? Reminds me of Congee...😝
Are you able to make it and heat it the next day?
The oatmeal ya, but I feel the egg would be rubbery. You can always throw the pre-made oatmeal in the microwave and while you're waiting for it to heat up fry the egg up.
Go Away Gina thank you!

I can consume both sweet and savory foods in the morning. Sometimes I could literally just have a banana in the morning and be energized until lunch time. I guess different people prefers different types of food in the morning :)
same! the only sweet thing i can maybe accept for breakfast is fruit...
Sending you big hugs. The fact that you're not getting much sleep & baby isn't either & you're still manage to do these vlogs for us, much appreciated. You're a champion.

It's really good when there's garlic, ginger and sesame oil. This is my first time making savoury oatmeal and I'm blown away!
I just had it for dinner, devoured everything! Added a bit of sesame oil in my veges, mind blowing

Keep up your wonderful mommying, you're the best :)
P. S. Dr. Sears' books on parenting, baby sleep, etc were lifesavers for me, all so very well written and come from such experience and love.

I love how you stopped to chat about Erisy while the oatmeal was cooking. It makes it feel like I’m in the kitchen with a friend. 💕😊
Can’t wait to try this recipe. I LOVE oatmeal for breakfast! 😋
honeysuckle this was amazing I tried this recipe and the product turned out so amazing I use rolled oats from true elements while making the same.
This literally is the BEST oatmeal recipe! I tried it with my True Elements whole oatmeal and it turned out amazingly good!
More savory oatmeal please!!!!! Not many oatmeal recipe videos on youtube are actually the savory recipes.
Thank you so much!!
it Has happened to my baby more than once. and what doctors said is that when something big and new is happening in the baby's life they keep processing it in their sleep. for example standing up, crawling, walking, learning something that is out of the normal of being a baby who eats and sleep... it doesn't last so long give her another week :)

You can also use a spoon to peel your boiled eggs. You just crack it a little & and stick the spoon under the shell & it’ll come right off
I tap the top and bottom on the counter, and then roll the egg on the countrt under my flat hand, and it usually peels off pretty easily.
This is my first time publicly commenting on any YT video because I’m a very silent viewer but I just got to say that this recipe is uh-ma-zing!!!!! Thank you so much for this and I can’t wait to make this on a chill Saturday morning already! Sending love and hugs to you and your little family
Uh may zing like shannon would say on kims convenience
@@kellykwan5811 OMG, I watch that show. I love it when Mr. Kim says "Sneak Attack!"

Can you substitute the mushrooms or kale with any other veggies or additions? I would love to try this!
Finally found the perfect most simple savory oatmeal recipe!!! This was delicious!!!
Yay! 😘
I never even thought about eating savory oatmeals.. what a great idea. Would love to see more options of savory oatmeals.
Hello from japan~

I love how enthusiastic and positive you are. The recipe looks delicious and I will have to try it out!
You’re the cutest, most hardworking momma! Unfortunately I have no advice as I’m not yet one myself. So cute. You’re doing well.
I’ve never tried savory oatmeal but I do love savory grits. I make my grits with an egg, cheese, sriracha and spinach or kale or edamame. This seems extra similar so I’ll have to surely give it a try.
I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious this was. Not a big kale eater but...man oh man. This might be my new favorite breakfast. 🍳🤗
I make this every day. It is the most delicious thing ever !!! Thank you so much.
Giving you a thumbs up because thanks to you I know what I am going to eat tomorrow!!

Will definetly make this. I’m obsessed with your savory oatmeal with the bacon. 😍😍😍😍😍😍
I love savory oatmeal! Will definitely be giving this a try. She could be going through a sleep regression, just go with it mama and know you’re doing the best you can!
Hey dzung quick tip u wants remove the shell off the egg lay them in cold water
What about a video of Nate’s favorite dishes? Either from this month’s challenge or in general! Thanks for the great recipes!
Speaking of smoothies, can you make a video on breakfast smoothies? I'm thinking of investing into a personal blender for my morning smoothies.

Love your cooking and your baby is the best in the videos
I think I'm going to actually try this. I had no idea you could make salty oatmeal, or that you could make it with broth! It's a simple idea, but it had never come to me.
your voice is sooooooo soothing omg
can we save it for the next day?
Armenians eat a savory oatmeal type of thing too called Harissa! It's like a cross between oatmeal and congee. It's made from cracked wheat and chicken (my fam used to make it with leftover turkey after Thanksgiving/Christmas)! (if you look it up you have to search armenian harissa or else you'll get a different harissa spice :) )
Savory oats are the best! I usually use chicken or veggie broth instead of water to amp up the flavor.
I start my diet plan by having a tasteless oatmeal just because of I don't like it in any sweet ways,so just getting through RUclips in hope to find some "salty" recipe then found your chanel which is just perfect for me😊
Mấy cái vid này hay quá cô ạ :> Thích hết cả series
I never thought to try savory oatmeal, but I will today!
I think she is growing. My kids all did that while they were going through a growth spurt.
Mmmm 😋 I love cooking my savory oats in chicken bone broth and I also like topping it with a fried egg.
Love love LOVEEEE THISSS!! 💖💖 can't wait to try this for breakfast. This warm savoury oatmeal is the perfect breakfast for those cold cold winter days! Thanks c:
is this a hot breakfast? or just slightly warm? I'd like to batch make my oatmeal on a sunday and use it during the week before work
oh i like the pot u cooked oatmeal. Would u mind telling me what brand is that?
Is it possible to make it the day before? I don't think I'll have time to cook this early in the morning.
Essential oil use lavender it really works
My mom told me that when I was a baby, she would stay on a very strict schedule and had me feed for half an hour, then play for half an hour, then sleep for two hours. Then, once I woke up, she would feed me for half an hour, play for half an hour, and have me sleep for two hours. This cycle happened all day long until bedtime. I would usually sleep the whole night! :) Great recipe by the way, I looove savory oats!
Also, my mom told me that at very late at night, at 11:00, she would feed me even if I was asleep. Then, I would sleep soundly because of being full.
Never had it this way. But growing up mom would make sweeten oatmeal and I always ate it with a boiled egg inside of it. I thought I was the only one who ate oatmeal and eggs. Well sweet oatmeal lol
I so wanna try this. Just Love your energy and I hope all goes well with the baby.
More savoury oatmeal ideas please!
Great recipe, but I can't do kale. Might have to sub it out for mustard greens or spinach.
You should definitely make a congee dish!
Yes i love congeee so much since I'm on a diet i have to stick with Oatmeals! This looks amazing
I hope Erisy gets back to her sleeping pattern soon🙌
ALSO have you tried peeling boiled eggs with the water in a container method?
I tryed this just now it is super yummy i had steel cut oats with best regards from norway
Dzung I just love your channel! You are one of my favorite humans :) Can't wait for you to hit one million subscribers!
it's probably a growth spurt or they go in and out of cutting naps/ fighting them. Just get into a routine of consistent bedtime and naptime and adjust when you need to. more than likely you are doing everything you need to, it's probably just a stage :)
This looks so good!!!! Can't wait to try it later
You reckon this would go nice with some roast cherry tomatoes??
Don't have TOO high of an expectation of your child...
Enjoy each other.. you both live once.
I love smoothies n always stressed thanx for sharing
I love savory meals. I just finish a breakfast of oatmeal and leftover chili con carne - I'm full as a tick.. Watching your video, I noticed I was drooling. Oh my! Anyway, more savory oatmeal please.
i like oatmeals but i only know how to prepare sweet ones and im craving for a savory one, thank yiu for this :D
