    Balerion IS house Targaryen.
He wasn't simply the biggest weapon in winning Westeros. The vision afforded by claiming him led them to survive the doom of Valyria. The beginning of their greatness.
And when the last Targaryen to claim him died, the house divided, and they began to fall.

@@thatoneblackdude3333 daenerys breaking the wheel and getting killed resulting in the end of the targaryen bloodline wasn't what was wrong with season 8. it was that it was that season 7 and 8 were rushed, the writing was awful, and they decided to make jon snow a joke. they should've shown more of the white walkers rampaging through the north, the wall, and such. jon snow should've killed the night king, arya should've killed daenerys after seeing what she did to the people of kings landing first hand on ground level, jon snow should've witnessed it, daenerys dies in jons arms, drogon burns the throne takes her and flies away. Jon takes the blame for arya while she escapes back to essos, jon gets banished to the wall, which is basically where he belongs cuz that's all he's really known, and the 7 kingdoms become a democracy of sorts, with the first elections leading to tyrion being named "king", sansa stays the queen of the north. bran goes to the citadel where he writes books detailing the histories of the westeros. the end

Hold on tight little one, here we go....
People give it such a heartbreaking spin. while it could be so much more wholesome than that.
Sure, like with all stories set in this universe there is always a bittersweet note to it.
I like to think that Balerion was not so much homesick. but was just delighted that the youngster was interested in her ancestors history. History where he himself was already part of at this point in the timeline.

This lead me to a theory why Balerion was the last of the original 5 dragons that survive until Aegon's Conquest, and that is because by the time the Targaryen got to the Dragonstone, Balerion at this time is still a young dragon, no larger than a horse like they mention, meanwhile the other 4 dragons are already adult or elder dragons, so when the time of Aegon come, the 4 dragons are already die of old age or natural cause meanwhile Balerion at this is almost 120 years old, make him old and big more than enough to assist Aegon in his conquest. The magic of bonding or warging in the GRRM universe seems to insinuate that previous bonds leave a shadow of the feelings, intentions or presence of the previously bonded individual. It goes both ways from my understanding. For example: if a highly aggressive dragon was slain, and their rider bonded with another dragon, there would be a shadow of the impression of the aggressiveness of the first dragon left on the rider. This could then be sensed by the new dragon that would be bonded and it could have an effect on the young dragon and how it develops or if it choses to even bond with said rider. In return, old dragons that have bonded with many riders have a shadow left on them by each individual rider; saving pieces of that rider’s temperament, ambitions and sometimes overall personality. For example, Silverwing was very similar to queen Alysanne in temperament and remained so after the queen died. The next person to claim Silverwing could be potentially influenced by the shadow of the former queen and her kindness or her empathy. Especially it would seem, if that person was selected by Silverwing from a group, because she sensed a similar spirit. It’s also true to say that Silverwing’s decision could be influenced by the shadow specifically.

For dragons home means their birthplace and unlike Vhagar and Meraxes who were born on Dragonstone, Balerion was born in Valyria. Westeros was never truly his home so its very likely that he just wanted to go home at the end. Much like Drogon in the show who always seems to return to the Dothraki sea because its where he was born and just like Balerion, neither Meereen or Westeros were home to him.

  • @SilverDomainShrine7

Balerion potentially seeing Aerea as Deanys legit made me tear up. Sounds like he would’ve just wanted to go home with his beloved rider. He suffered a huge wound too so he was probably trying to do everything to protect Aerea (who reminded him of Daenys). After Aerea suffers the worst fate ever in ASOIAF, Balerion just spends the rest of his days in the dragon pit…until Viserys bonded with him years later. He only had in him to fly around King’s Landing a few times and then eventually passed himself. I’m gonna cry now over this theory 😭

Aerea didn’t exactly “claim” Balerion. More like she got on and he held her hostage. So where he went, she went, against her will. Most likely that, or he just misinterpreted Aereas desire to go home, thus taking her to Old Valyria when she meant Kings Landing.

  • @MaxFusion01

Viserys seems to have only ever had one dream when he was young and it defined his life. Never had another dream. Only rode Balerion for a year.
Aegon had a dream that caused him to unite 6 kingdoms through conquest.
Helaena has a dragon specifically named Dreamfyre and shes the most dreaming targ we've seen.
... maybe dragons are more involved in the prophetic dreams than it just being a Targ thing.

Honestly that is rather shocking because personally I suspected Balerion was a tad older like at 300 at the least. And i could only imagine that Balerion probably had more wounds near the end of his or her life because he was the mount of Aegon the conqueror but also we would only need to look at his or her sister Vaegar right now in the show. But hey 210 to 213 is still very old so who am I to talk😅

I don’t believe he died of old age. We know he was scuffed up by his visit to Valyria. That he was fit to ride before this but by a couple decades later considered to be old and slow to the point his next (and last) claimant was Viserys who never made any use of him.
