    Not sure if this is a serious but if you were you should know that it won't have the right geometry unless you grind inside the flutes

      +Chris Findlay I had to do a quick fix on Sunday, shops far away. I just angled the best side of the tip and did the grinding worked perfectly fine, geometry fully good. More or less ;)

    I can't imagine valuing a single screwdriver bit highly enough to bother repairing one! I have more than I could be bothered to count, and the best of them are only a few quid for a pack of five. They are as close to disposable as anything else in my workshop beyond sandpaper!

    Love these DIY videos mate i subbed, it's knowledge like this that is great for emergency applications. Middle of the night no store open, stripped the philipshead drill bit, grinder on the table fixed and job done. Great stuff

      Max DIY
      Im a steel fabricator and where i work they throw out standard drill bits, the ones for drilling holes. They look at it cheaper to just replace them rather then sharpen them on a bench grinder. They charge $120 phr to the customer so i kind of understand.
      However im one of the few that knows how to actually sharpen them properly so i keep the drill bits and take them home. Got a nice little hoard of free drill bits :).
      Never seen this method on your video though for philips bits, got me thinking it can be used on those pesky cheap screw drivers aswell.
      Like your style mate, it's ingenuity that separates the men from the boys.

    Completely unworkable - if you grind away the tip of the Philips bit, the remaining tangs are too broad to accept a screw.

  • @rodnyg7952
    @rodnyg7952 7 месяцев назад

    I guess this might work if you have a grinder. Even good hand files can temporarily be used to reshape the tip. The geometry of the bit itself will never be the same regardless. Just get good quality bits, & have them available for emergencies. They aren't very expensive to buy, or space consuming to stock

    • @MaxDIY1
      @MaxDIY1  8 лет назад

      +chris pool My explanation form instructables
      The whole explanation is as simple as that: I live in a remote location. I was Sunday and our bed collapsed. I did not own tools on my own.I borrowed the drill/driver from a friend of mine. All 3 Phillips bit tips were broken. No decent wood screws in stock as well, got them form other friend of mine.Yes, I sould have said. Oh, bed is broken, I need to buy a new one.www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/3958...Not very expensive is it?But on Sunday evening quite hard to get. I could have ordered the bit tips form amazon, and sleep on the floor for next too weeks. OR, just get the bit tips sorted and get the bed in order in about 45 minutes. Plz be aware that I did have the grinder so I had not bought it just to get the tips sorted.The easiest way is to say oh, my smartphone is broken I'll get a new one.Work, eat, buy....work, eat, buy...work, eat, buy......The final of a story is: Bed fully fixed, will serve years to come, the bit tips fixed, owner of the drill and the tips happy.

    Phillips screws and bits are shit. To bad Robertson screws are not standard in most countries as it is far superior to Phillips.

    • @MaxDIY1
      @MaxDIY1  8 лет назад +1

      +Bob Cartwright U R 100% right, it is very difficult to destroy Robertson, much better solution. Unfortunately, in Europe I saw this solution only a few times.

      Darren Woods It is fully true. Back in the time when I was young I used one for like 2 years and I can bet it is still fully operational. I scrued quite a few plasters with it .

    • @MrEh5
      @MrEh5 8 лет назад +1

      +Darren Woods True, but still not as good as a Robertson. Try driving a four inch Phillips screw with one hand at arm length.

    • @technodaz
      @technodaz 8 лет назад +1

      It would be easy and exactly the same as a square bit , except with a square bit you have no tolerance and it only works at one angle , with philips/pozi I have managed to drive them in at an angle no problem , try that with a square bit. Also doing shit by hand ....that's for peasants (expect if your assembling a kitchen were the designer is just a total bastard.)
