I think the Cellini is the most beautiful of Rolex watches. Don't like the others. But the fellow doing the rebuild here is incredible. Doesn't look like this is his first rodeo ! Great job and Great video !
That’s a stunning watch! I don’t know why, but I like the less popular Rolex models, like the Cellini. I find the popular ones like the Submariner to be overly large and gaudy. I know, that’s an odd point of view. Great video. Thanks.
I have the submariner and never wear it for that reason. However, the OP is my preferred selection and would probably suit the low key stylists' taste.

It really is more than just a watch. It’s a beautiful work of art. I know nothing about working on watches, but from what I can see seems like a masterful job at restoring this watch. 👏👏👏
I have a couple of Rolex, but not this exquisite Cellini although my sister has the moon-phase version that was gifted her some time ago. Your watchmaking video is absolutely wonderful and I thank you. My sister watched it with me so she could see inside the Cellini's watch case. She loved your video presentation also. Many thanks and best wishes from Wendi in the UK 🌻
Very simple design but gives classy look. I have an automatic Longines watch which hold the power less than 12 hours what likely is the problem ? Thank you for the advice. I did sent to a watchmaker for a service and manually wind the watch 25 turns in the morning.
That is definitely not normal! Unfortunately I cannot tell you without seeing the watch, there could be a myriad of different reasons, such as broken mainspring, etc
great job Maestro…one question: I saw you put some grease onto the barrel also ir you put a new spring, but some watchmakers didn’t do this…could you tell me why? This watch is spectacular! Thanks and regards…
I bought a similar Rolex Cellini with a top nº5112 and a lower nº9574412 18K, in 1997, in Macao, China. Never needed repair or lubrification and still running beautifully. Can you tell me anything about it ? The one you are dealing with have to replace the main spring and my question is, why a so expensive watch needed to replace the mainspring while a common watch can have it for a whole lifetime ?
Hi Ambrosio! The mainspring on this watch was broken, so I needed to replace it. The mainspring is a part that wears down and replacement is part of a service. Sounds like you got very lucky! :)
Now that is a truly beautiful piece, and a very nicely decorated movement. One wonders why it was up for sale, in that condition for that age it was barely used! Clean, lubricate, new mainspring is apparently the minimum work Rolex will undertake, so why did the owner want to sell it? Either way you got yourself a nice Cellini.
Rolex would want to replace the dial and hands as in their stupid little minds a watch should look like it just came out the showroom. That's why most vintage Rolex owners avoid a Rolex service.
Bear in mind that to get this item serviced by an official Rolex service centre may well cost you somewhere north of £600 and probably nearer £1000. Add to that the cost of a repair and it may well make more sense to sell it and hope to make more from it in a non working condition than fix it and sell it in a working condition. Factor in also that this is one of their less common watches, and furthermore from 1964 and the prices therefore may be considerably higher, assuming Rolex are interested in servicing and repairing it at all.
That is a beautiful, classy looking watch but I have to say I always find watches without the second hand strange. It is as if they are soul less. To me the second hand going around represents the heart of the watch beating. Even the older models with the sub dials somehow seem alive with that little hand ticking away.
You are absolutely right, it would have been better to use plastic ones! I was so in the workflow that I completely missed switching out the tweezers. Luckily the buckle wasn't damaged!
Thanks for answering. I just noticed that the serial number of this watch starts with an E that corresponds to a 1990 production. Mine is W for a 1995 production. So, the Rolex Cellini from this videos it’s from 1990 to be precise.
How come you call it risky for repairing a minimalist watch that dosent even have a date function ,how would you call repairing a complex watches like Zenith el primero or defy ?
The watch is expansive. When I purchased it, I didn’t know the damage. If a lot of Rolex parts needed than it will higher the cost. The risk is about the price and not the complication of the watch.

New mainspring are mostly lubricated by manufacturers. I lubricate them on top of that with tiny amount of oil.
The watch is truly amazing 🤩
For modern handwringing movement I use Moebius HP1300. For old movement with steel mainspring I use 8200.
In this particular case I used 8200 as the new mainspring is lubricated by factory
Good work.
