    Very nice rescue of a tired old watch, probably the only thing that I would have preferred to do would be to replace the winder crown with a more period correct or even repair the old winder crown, that being just a personal choice, otherwise a great addition to any collection.

    • @stevewilliams5428
      @stevewilliams5428 3 года назад +3

      There's something wrong with the watch he repaired. Says 'superbalance' on the ratchet wheel but the balance isn't a 'superbalance'.. it's a bi metallic split compensated balance. The case screw didn't fix the movement into the case. I suspect he fitted a stem tube(glued in when he should have used a friction fit tube) and waterproof crown as this helped fix the movement in place rather then the case screw. I suspect this movement is from another watch case and in the past was married into the case.

    Nice bit of history and a nice restoration. Just for a bit of trivia - at this time in its history, Rolex was not manufacturing many (if any) parts themselves. They were buying up parts from other manufacturers, assembling them in-house and branding them themselves, eventually Hans Wilsdorf was able to negotiate with these manufacturers and have them produce parts specifically for his company's watches. Believe it or not, It wasn't until the early 2000's that Rolex began manufacturing all of their components in-house.

    Absolutely fascinating work. I used to be an optician in my younger days and enjoyed fixing people’s broken glasses. I think I would have been pretty good at fixing watches too. You have a gift.

    Wowwwwww... Impresionante.
    Es espectacular el resultado de un proceso tan perfecto en una pieza de la historia tan única. Sueño con tener un reloj así, para que sea parte de mi y de las generaciones que vengan después de mi.
    Es hermoso, me fascina.

    Great upload, exceptional work! I love that style of watch.
    Still... Can't get over that modern crown on a 20s oyster.

    I thought some of the screws I have to deal with were tiny!
    Keep up the great videos. I love seeing mechanical items torn down to see how they work. Guess that’s why I love my hobby, it’s model trains.
