"Where's your laser pointers, guys? This is why I gave them to you." - Matt Mercer every episode.
And I just know he has bought a hundred by now, and they are all at Liam's house with the other cat toys.
I always thought this was such a funny bit til I heard, like ten or so episodes back, matt say: " this is why /I/ bought them for you." Poor guy went out of pocket like a teacher or something and they never use them hahaha. Still funny, but with a caveat.
Every episode where they _do_ bring them: "Guys, don't point your lasers at the screen."
"Is giving someone a potion your full actin?" Every episode.
Poor guy 😅
with the amount of healing potions he shoves into everyone's mouths, Grog is now basically a healer
He unofficially multiclassed as fighter/barbarian/field medic

Vox Machina really could've used Larkin's help in this fight - where's everyone's favorite dwarf when you need him?!

Right I mean Larkin fought one dragon for a bit but Jarrett stepped up this time, I think with their forces combined it would have been an easier fight.
I was really looking forward to seeing Larkin in action, but in the usual vox machina style they completely forgot he was with them. I guess it's hard to keep track of who you have following you if they aren't players. Matt really shouldn't have let Larkin get left behind though. Maybe it was on purpose and Larking played a monumental role in fighting off the lizardmen in emon, while VM fought the dragons.
Also, Larkin could of really helped them with raishan.
I love when Matt role plays his own NPC's as being frustrated and angry at the actions of his other NPC's lmao

Character trait solidified: "Don't let me die, I need to loot." - Vex
That’s her worst trait. It really solidifies the shitty person that everyone knows she is but continues to lie to her about
@@jgamer2228 I love Laura Bailey so much, but Vex is such a shit.
@@jgamer2228 characters would be bland without flaws
@@madladzgaming2562 Vex should only be able to cast Hunter's Mark on people she wants to take advantage of.
@@madladzgaming2562 Um, probably because it's Percy's fault? She was literally in the process of checking for traps when he just went ahead and grabbed the armor, it's what caused her death. And then people blame Vex for her greed for rushing over to the armor to check for traps...even though that is literally her job. Trap checking is what the twins do basically. Someone wants something checked for traps? Either Vax or Vex is the one they call for. And then they claim she got greedy for checking for traps, rather than calling it Percy's greed as the one who actually grabbed the armor before she could finish checking for traps.
I cannot explain, to literally anyone, how much I love and care about the fictional character known as Shaun Gilmore.
Poor guy got walloped, it was so upsetting :(
Noneed to explain. We all understand.
I know. I've been, somebody better fix Gilmore up. NOW.
Sam: "how does Gilmore look?"
Me: "handsome."
Matt: "he's seen a lot of struggle from the last battle"
Me: "oh you meant..."
I can't believe they didn't give him the hero's feast. Went so far as to deny Allura closure so theycould bring him alonh, and they give the feast the fucking trinket who can just bamf into the necklace when he goes unconscious
Hey, you know, how it's a bad idea to fight an Acient Dragon right after an Ancient Dragon?
Yeah.
I feel like after slaying Thordak everyone sort of forgot that Raishan was an Ancient Dragon too.
I mean it's understandable, Thordak went down really easy for being the Big Bad of the arc
One of the dumbest things any and all of them have done. And considering they made a deal with her too. now the diseased (maybe?) deceiver gets to call the party dishonourable.
Christopher Laryck She shot first with the Chain Lightning on Vax, you can choose the targets. And it's not a safe choice but it's in character and emotions were running high, they definitely knew what they were getting into.
Thanks, Khang. Perhaps you missed the last episode. While Raishan was attempting to speak to Thordak's body, in the tunnel leading to the cinder King's lair, Keylieth and Vax launched the attacked (this occurred near the end of episode 79 - the battle scene really begins here: ruclips.net/video/THyXWq5iS0k/видео.html). Vax made the first attack against Raishan. then deceiver fled into Thordak's lair. When the group continued to come after her, she attacked with the chain lightning. While I am not suggesting that she didn't 'need to die' I am only saying that it has become habit for the group to break their word. one of their first quests when they came to Emon was to not steal the thing they were hired to steal and get the mage in the tower to help them instead. Vax especially attacks people without provocation (see the young man that worshipped him as a hero and wanted to join the group). In a world of heroics, honour is a valuable commodity and Vox M has tainted theirs.
Scanlan: I died as I lived...hard.
---
Talesin (to Keyleth): You died as you lived--
Marisha: ...a fucking dumbass??
I died laughing. 🤣 Marisha and everyone's reaction to her misfortune was so funny in such a downer of a battle.
I literally yelled “As long as she doesn’t roll a- MARISHA NO.”
I still can’t believe Larkin wasn’t involved in this fight. He really let Vox Machina down
Man was busy leading the charge in the city. Really an underrated hero.
That snivelling rat left him in the tunnels. An absolute coward, his clan would be ashamed.
You know Larkin is a dwarf, right?
2 years later - still the most under rated comment here
Raishan is Larkin.
The bottom of Sam's drink is mostly just random letters, however starting on the second line from the top, there are these words, each on a new line: "This Is The Hidden Message". I don't think there's anything else in there, I just think it's something to catch our eyes and make us work for a funny, yet useless thing.

I have been scrolling for this for a while lol
I could actually HEAR Vex's ears perk up at the first mention of the hoard. I know Laura gets a lot of grief for the greed but I love the consistency of character
You just kinda throw your hand up like "Dang it, Vex! Oh well..." in the most Leave It to Beaver moment ever
It's not the greed that is a problem. It's more that the group accepts it. It's possible that the resulting interpersonal friction was played out pre-stream, but it always rubs me the wrong way that everyone else just lets Vex walk all over them. It works as a character trait, but it suffers from that metagaming problem where you let PCs do things you wouldn't let NPCs do because you know that PCs are on your side.
@@qerupasy Note the other part of the trait though. By and large she's the savvy one with money. She's the book-keeper. The accountant. So they let her do what she's good at. She's a master of coin character, and she is very very good at it. So I see this as an extension of that trait. She's paid full price what? twice? in the entire campaign? For anything?!?
Ironic that this negative trait is still looked at and accepted fondly while Keyleth/Marisha got destroyed every time they made a mistake or did something annoying. If Vex went for a treasure hoard and got the party in more trouble throughout the campaign then I wonder if opinion would have changed.
I'm kinda loving how Raishan is just straight up more dangerous than Thordak just because she's a powerful mage and he was just a giant, crazy, angry fire dragon.
Also they rolled horribly.
Spell casters make the best boss fights.
@@MrSealemon eh, depends! I understand it gives the dm more options, but as a DM it's also your choices in the design of any boss encounter that give yourself these options. For example, giving legendary actions to normal monsters is gamechanging already, and it's often pretty simple to alter existing actions into mechanically interesting versions of themselves imo, etc etc. Making even physical bosses interesting in their own right.
They fought the **cinder king** before this, they were out of most of their useful stuff AND engaged without full frontage. They made terrible decisions the entire time, raishan isn't that dangerous. They enjoy drama more than tactics is all
I think it's by the contrary, Matt himself mentioned Raishan isn't as hearty as other dragons, it's just that they fought her at the worst possible time.
If I recall correctly, Gilmore did get Hero's Feast. It was Jarett that didn't partake. Remember that he got struck with fear, but Gilmore wasn't affected during the Thordak fight.
This is why sometime if your unsure don't 2nd guess the Dm. Laura clearly thinks it over before she says anything, and she was wrong only jarrett didn't get the feast
That's correct. It was so frustrating to see that mistake go uncorrected, 41 points of poison damage Gilmore shouldn't have taken from Raishan's breath. It was fire resist that Gilmore was missing, because nobody bothered to cast Protection From Energy on him and they only had 4 potions.
What's even worse is that Heroes Feast feeds 12 *plus* the caster. www.dnd-spells.com/spell/heroes-feast - "Up to twelve *other* creatures can partake of the feast". So Jarrett didn't need to give up his spot for Trinket. It's basically the Last Supper (from Christianity) as a spell.
But at least Gilmore didn't actually die, and it probably didn't make a difference in the fight. Still, it didn't help in that chain of fail of running up to heal each other and then getting more people hit with more AoEs. Because apparently VM is terrible at using group heals.
No, a useless bear got it instead.
Well none of them have heros feast benefits, because Raishun dispelled its magical effects from everybody... but sure it's totally trinkets fault.
Although I do agree trinket is totally useless.
@@Peter_Cordes Actually they had 5 potions of fire resist, they got 4 before the fight from Drake and had one already. The potions were given out to Grog, Vex, Scanlan, Percy, and Keyleth.
Keyleth could have cast it on Gilmore but would then had been limited in what damaging spells she could cast since it's a concentration spell. Don't think necessarily it was a bad choice thy made when dividing it up, the spell I think the group was missing was See Invisibility.
They have encountered a lot of enemies in the past that had made use of it against them, so taking measures to prepare for it would have made sense. I don't know if Invisibility Purge is still on the 5E cleric spell list, but Scanlan could have picked up See Invisibility as a lvl 2 spell when levelling up...it last an hour and not a concentration spell so multiple people could have gotten a use of it.
Percy is always so positive. I love it. When the team rolls low or not as effective, he's always pointing out that it made the dragon use a spell slot or a legendary action or that the healing was "9 points times 6 is still a lot of healing"....he's looks at the glass half full. Great asset to the party. (he's a little too hard on himself sometimes). Percy should be short for "Persevere"
Percy and the dude that plays him is just all round a great guy.
He's the brains behind the group, sometimes. If they just let him enact some of his hair brained schemes this show would be...ahhh different.
I feel like every party should have a Percy. Always trying to look at the bright side of things and being encouraging to the best of their ability
the fun thing about percy is his attitude is pretty consistent across the board- when *he's* the most positive one it's gotta be a pretty damn dire circumstance (like here, or their first attempt at vecna)
Sometimes you just gotta de-ROLL-o with it.
@@chadamonkey5641 yes. Yes. Thank you for that. 👏👏👏
If that fight had gone slightly worse... next episode Percy and Grog go recruiting.
To be entirely honest, as depressing as that would be, it might also be strangely hilarious.
It would've been hard for one. We're talking about replacing people are basically your family at this point. Grog loses his best friend and sister, Percy loses his best friend and lover, and they both lose a mutual frenemy in Vax. Something tells me the two of them would've just parted ways after that.
I imagine a scene in my mind where they would've buried the bodies at Greyskull Keep, in the temple to Sarenrae. Just five headstones with different flowers for each of them. Grog heads home to Westrun and helps to rebuild while Percy heads back to Whitestone to assume responsibility as a nobleman. It's a somber ending to an adventurous tale, but as it is often in DnD where the dice decide everything.
All this to say that Vox Machina would've disbanded with the deaths of so many members and we would've seen _everyone_ make new characters. Thankfully, despite all the dumbassery this episode, none of this happened and we got the, "eh, we'll take it" timeline.
Family that stupid is better off lost. The only party members I really cared about were Scanlan of those 5. And to see an end to Vax I would happily have traded the whole party.
@@KainErrow See, comments like this make me question why and _how_ you've watched 80 episodes hating that many characters where they star 90% of the time. I know some people have their gripes, but I personally enjoy all the characters.
In any case, they weren't stupid outside of Vax who was the one to initially attack Raishan, but even then he was doing it more-so out of emotion and not thinking straight at all.
@@Dracon350 To be entirely honest I was in a lot of pain earlier and basically sniping anything that even vaguely irritated me. :shrugs

This just clicked for me: Scanlan had his 8th level spell slot and one cutting words left for this whole episode. his 8th level spell is feeblemind. he was waiting for raishan to burn all her legendary reactions so he could cutting words her, then cast feeblemind with advantage. If it had succeeded, it would have pretty much instantly ended the fight, no question. unfortunately, he died the round he could have done it while saving someone else.
PromethianChild scanlan is literally a genius so....
Scanlan didn't have Feeblemind as far as anyone knows. He also had spells for Counterspell that he never used which is why he died.
If he'd used the flute earlier, maybe he could have used it.
Scanlan's 8th level spell is Dominate Monster, not Feeblemind. But I agree I think he was trying to save it for the possibility of controlling an ancient dragon. I was actually expecting him to try to use it on Thordak.
@@ModernArtery
[Edit: I was mistaken. My answer here is wrong. Please do not take in consideration. My last answer explain why. Thanks.]
Dragons are not considered Monsters to be dominated by this spell. I have pretty sure I heard Matt saying in the previous dragon's fights that Dragons are in the "dragon" category, and that is why wyverns can't be dominated too.
This battle Scanlan was level 15, and the spell listed is really Dominate Monster.

Oh god, if I didn't know there was still 35 episodes I would have thought this was going to be a tpk. That could've gone so badly.
It really could have. I swear, I think I see a few DM moments from Matthew where he might have fudged certain stuff to prevent massive loss of life but let's be honest...for a lot of them it's their first time playing a type of game like this.
Let’s be honest here. It should have gone badly. The fact they survived was a miracle, or amazing DMing. Fighting a tactician dragon right after a roided up Super Dragon AND having a split party in a hostile environment? Like jumping out of a plane, they should have died. Walking away with only broken bones would be unbelievably lucky.
@@Nickle_King I mean I think you saw some DM forgiveness there. When Vax goes to zero, and also when Keyleth jumps into the lava he asks for HP BEFORE rolling damage. Which is fine because it's their game and they can play as they wish. But yeah, I get the feeling the DM didn't want a slaughter and eased up a lot.
just because the character dies doesn't mean that the person stop's playing they just make new characters that get worked into the story
@@vaughnmonkey if every single character died, they might have had some struggles continuing.
for the entire episode Liam has a face of regret for starting this fight
Liam said in the Thordak talks Machina that Liam knew it was an awful decision, but it is what Vax would do
Well he should! He might have just gotten his sister killed. Lol
Vax got his sister AND his best friend killed for being an utterly stupid piece of shit. Could've just let her do what she wanted and walk out of there, and the outcome would've been exactly the same. They can always hunt her down again after you have time to regroup and heal. Vax and Keyleth are the stupidest characters in this campaign, no wonder they're a couple.
@@SocialistSadako Vox Machina almost always break deals they made with other entities unless they're bound to it by some sort of contract that requires their soul or something as payment
Thats what they get for Liam and Marisha metagaming all the time...Vax attacked her while she was casting a spell she told them all she planned on doing once Thordak was dead and Matt even said Vax recognized the speak with dead spell (a none hostile spell). Marisha is a derp and yelled to stop her because she didn't understand (or wasn't listening) what was going on, even though her character couldn't see what was happening and furthermore going against what she had previously told Vax, to only attack if Rishan got aggressive. The battle with Rishan was a huge example of metagaming biting you in the ass.

This is actually hilarious. Like, so much is on the line, Keyleth was the only healer left, and she just trips on her shoelace and literally faceplants into lava. You can't make this level of comedic timing up. I also love Liam's face at 2:46:12, he is just so beside himself upon hearing Matt describe the fall.
Why did Vax looked so annoyed when that happened? do you know by any chance?

@@Grrrr1997 I just watched this episode for the first time tonight, and when I saw this scene at this exact time stamp I thought Matt was saying Keyleth couldn’t get out of the lava at all and was prone so that if she tried to get out she would suffer more damage. @@SocialistSadako Yes. We get it. You hate Keyleth. Figured that, since you feel the need to comment 'she's soooooo stupid' on every episode, in someone else's post...
@@SocialistSadako Actually, I was impressed with Keyleth for owning up because it technically wasn't her fault this go. I mean, it wasn't the time, hence Vex's comment, but she was setting aside her anger at Raishan and saying that they shouldn't rush in again. However, it wasn't her fault that they all had to rush in in the first place. Vax forced Keyleth to respond to his demand with no context, and then didn't follow her answer and attacked, then ran into the lair. Definitely Vax's bad this time.
@@SocialistSadako yeah Laura is the best. Especially when she acts like a bratty 10 years old for an entire fight when things go poorly for her. Go watch the Pit Fiend fight, or the final Feywild fight, or the sphinx fight. Orion level of cringe right there. I also enjoyed when she threw a fit at her husband over an imaginary broom or when she got her alignment changed from neutral good to chaotic neutral because she was so totally out of character most of the time.

Vox Machina are pretty powerful until they run into a foe with any kind of tactical ability
More like until they listen to marisha/keyleth and follow her orders to enter into a battle with low health and their high level spells already wasted.
If they had rested before jumping headfirst thing would have went quite differently for them. Letting keyleth cause an unnecessary fight is what fucked them up.
@@asluckdespairs really that was Vax this time. He started this pain train.
@@asluckdespairs so wait for a 1 hour for a short rest or 8h for a long to let reishan have her way with the body, they had to try and stop her, even if she wasnt using thordaks body for other things shes still a evil entity who would no doubt return for retaliation no matter the amount of time she promised to stay away and needed to be dealt with, it was the right call
Or doors
@@duman173 I'm sorry but i have to disagree if it was the right call but who knows? Maybe it was one of the best choice to make because they are still alive. I would consider regrouping first and then striking at the same time (or at the same pace), so it leaves Raishan with only a little amount of time to react. If Scanlan was there he could have counterspelled her invisibility and let the rest work. I just hate that Vax ask Keyleth out of all people in the group.
I like how they got raptured by the relatively easy slaying of Thordak in the previous episode. However, Thordak was big and powerful, but utterly mad, Raishan is a very clever and cunning foe, and this episode made it clear that she was the actual main boss of the Chroma Conclave. Thordak was a weapon got loose, Raishan was the main schemer of the whole Conclave, and she had enough wit to maintain low profile. They really underestimated her or overestimated their own power and it was a bitter lesson. I just love the drama :)
they did have a fair bit more NPC help, like the airship and such with Thordak, particularly Raishan herself assisting them. it might just be a matter of 'counters', Thordak was relatively speaking, countered by the fire resistance potions and was straight muscle that was absolutely insane that VM can bash their heads (or more likely Grog's and Vax's) against. Raishan however, is a cunning fighter with very powerful magic and a will to survive while they had used most of their power JUST killing Thordak (Vax reaaaaallly jumped the gun to make such a major decision without even consulting the party, only asking Keyleth who has shown her herself to be massively stupid and unreasonable with Raishan, note making death threats constantly in Whitestone with complete disregard for what would wipe out the city like her precious Fire Ashari) might be a situation of Raishan would've been crushed by Thordak if she tried to battle him herself, but she's far more deadly to the party than Thordak would be
matt said that he likes tricking players into making them think it's gonna be an easy fight and then turning weak creatures stronger and more clever, so they gonna be a more serious threat all of a sudden ;)
I think they were received by the *relative* size between Thordak and Raishan. She was small *compared to him,* but they forgot how big she was compared to V.M. After fighting Thordak they were prolly thinking, "Oh, she's small we can take her!" 😅
Not really.
Matt buffed Raishan so much that she is probabily the most powerfull monster in the history of D&D.
She can cast 4 spells per turn. FUCKING FOUR SPELLS. She was casting spells after every single player action. She casted cone of cold twice in a single turn.
There is no way to prepare for that. All the other Dragons were tough, but nothing close to this.
Matt created new rules to make sure everything went as he wanted. Like creating a wall to stop Raishans pursuit. So you tell me she flied 160 feet carrying two eggs and also created an invisible barrier at the same time, considering she had just cast a lot of spells in less than 6 seconds?
Completely unfair.
I mean they also fought two powerful dragons in a row, they lost a lot in the fight with Thordak so when it came to raishan they were starting to run on fumes

I can only imagine the panic Ashley feels during sessions like this. Just on the set of Blindspot manically texting
(SPOILERS) never realized before now, that Pike revealed the basic content of Scanlan's letter to her in this episode. she said she can't raise his daughter alone - she needs him back alive. in the end of campaign wrap-up many months later, Ashley would read the full letter out-loud, and it matches up - it was a request, in the event of Scanlan's death, for Pike to raise his daughter and be a good influence on her.
thank Sarenrae everyone ultimately survived this fight - would have been especially horrible for Ashley to be absent for loss of any character, much less a TPK :(
Raise? Sam wrote raise? But his daughter is an adult.
@@MorinehtarTheBlue Yes. See the Campaign 1 wrap-up episode. Sam reads the entire letter in full (I was wrong in earlier comment when I said Ashley did the out-loud reading - it was Sam)
@@MorinehtarTheBlue Scanlan's daughter, at most, is MAYBE a young adult. gnomes reach adulthood around 40 years of age, and assuming scanlan is _actually_ 69 - 71 years old over the course of the series, it's safe to say she's not actually an adult just yet in terms of gnomes. i'd wager she's around 20 - 25 years old, personally.
I'd say "raise" is probably used pretty loosely. more like... be a good influence on and help guide
I loved the face Travis made when Laura read that out, you can see how much he appreciates the story-telling 👍
SPOILERS:
Gotta give credit to mercer the tactics and brilliance he showed in this battle was genius. Using greater invisibility to remove the heroes feast with dispel magic was such a good idea. Furthermore baiting them into the lair with the meteor swarm and waiting for the party to get weakened then she could come in for the finishing blow. I feel like when mercer is allowed to play a smart enemy like the pit fiend or raishan he can fully play to his mental capabilities and personally I love watching it.
Elias Patrikis I was unimpressed. Seemed to pull a lot of machinas out of his ass to get his way.
-They fought two ancient dragons back to back.- Scratch that, they fought one *uber ancient dragon* and then decided to fight another ancient dragon which they knew had powerful magic whilst having expended most of their magic users' spell slots. (Not to mention the twins dreadfully poor handling of Pike.) The fact that this didn't turn into a TPK was miraculous. Had Scanlan's counterspell failed against Raishan's prismatic spray, that would have been the essentially the end of Vox Machina. Only Grog and Percy would have survived, and Raishan still had a number of spells at her disposal.
With regard to "pulling a lot of machinas out his ass..." Those "machinas" were almost completely in favor of Vox Machina. Had he just let Raishan go to town on Vax, Vex, and Keyleth after they *attacked and then pursued a ******* ancient dragon into the lair of the most powerful dragon in existence with a split (and magic-depleted) party* instead of having her hide on the ceiling for three rounds casting dispel magic, those three could have been killed with ease if Matt had used Raishan's in a much more devious manner. It's impossible to overstate the level of stupidity required to act as Keyleth and Vax did. Vex / Laura knew this at the end of the previous episode, but she obviously wasn't going to let her twin brother run off and die alone.
Also, that Keyleth Nat 1 roll on the jump over the lava... Talk about being merciful not to mention wise considering Matt and Marisha were engaged at that point and are now married. Go back and look at Matt's reaction when it happened. It tells you everything you need to know about this entire encounter.
In a one fashion, you are right. Matt did "get his way" in the end: He didn't kill off his mostly mindless players as they so deserved. They fell into an obvious trap which they could have walked away at any point considering Matt did not have Raishan attack for something like 3 or 4 rounds. He gave them so many subtle clues and three or four overt ones. But I love the irony of it all. The wisest players at the table are the troll with 7(?) wisdom (Scanlan) and the raging, illiterate Goliath Barbarian (Grog) who has an intelligence rating less than some animals. I love Critical Role.
TheKillaShow "His way" was keeping a lot of reckless fools alive through having the boss make a lot of bad tactical choices in hopes luck helped the players out of a fight they didn't really deserve to win, or even survive.
I think it was mostly for the fans - a colder DM would have just TPKed the grouo and let them reroll characters and hopefully learn from it all.
Elias Patrikis too bad it is impossible to dispell heros feast. Its duration is instantaneous but its effects last 24 hrs. So since the duration is instantaneous it can only be counterspelled but that has to be done as the spell is cast. This battle should've been much quicker and easier than it was
@@TheKillaShow Yeah. Using legendary actions to cast spells? Cast 4 spells in a single turn? When player characters can at most cast level 2 spells as a bonus action? Yet Raishan casted two cones of cold in the same round and did far more shit.
"Guys, we can't get through this magical wall"
Grog: YEET
I'd like to remember that episode where they had a conversation with Raishan in whiterun and said 'we can easily kill you'.
Well, if they weren't exhausted from just killing a bigger dragon, they may have had a better chance at this. The issue of possibly fighting two battles in a row when you need to put out all the stops for a bigger threat is what you won't have much for later.
I mean ti be fair they were just in a bigger fight

@@alexandraboeschenstein3916 How is Raishan going to kill or even survive J'Mon?
Because Raishan was hasted, but he only took one action each round
I’m not sure that’s true. It’s my understanding of the rules of lair actions that the dragon activates (they can’t choose the same one twice in a row);them so they should have stopped with Thordaks death. Regional effects either end or improve over time, so a lot of that damage wouldn’t have happened. Having said that the DM is always right, but if Matt knew the rule and chose a different one it kind of shows he wasn’t being easy on the party.
Vax should have insta-died when he went down, 2 death saves failed for the tail attack after he went down to the claw and then another one from hitting the ground...

around 1:28:50 our dear rogue could have been killed on the spot.
Raishan attacked him 3 times, all 3 hit. He went unconscious after 2 hits. That makes the third hit an auto crit against him which means two failed death saves. Then the impact on the ground would have been the 3rd fail and with that he would have died right there.
I think we saw some mercer-mercy there keeping Vax alive. Raishan would have finished him.
DAMN and then Keyleth almost kills him xD
Yeah, Bullshit there too, I was furious. Vex gets a 15 feet fall and gets an auto fail, this jackass gets a 60 feet fall and nothing. I understand he could have forgotten that, partially because of THE CONSTANT WHINNING AND REMINDING OF FUCKING EVASION AND UNCANNY SHITDGE
He didn't just fall 60 feet and nothing. He fell 60 feet and failed 2 saving throws. Sure it should have been 3 but still, he showed mercy and only made it 2 and he just got lucky that he didn't die in the hands of Keyleth.
I saw that too. The DM ignored that last tail attack which, if Vax was within 5ft. would have been 2 fails in addition to the fail from the fall. Vax technically died if not for some "divine intervention"

After getting frustrated many, many times with some of the things that have happened due to what is often referred to as "character development" and things of that nature. I decided to just watch how things play out, and try to have a better understanding of the fact that NOBODY, not even us as an audience, understands what their characters are thinking, like they do. I just ride it out and watch. No sense in getting irritated, or upset with anything they are doing. Basically the two people he's closest to were either the cause of them fighting when they shouldn't have attempted (Kyleth) or suffered most from the fight (Vex). That would make shit awful rough for an character that gets so deep into the emotions.

This is an awesome list. Thank you so much!!!!
scanlan goes unc at 2:15:12 not 2:12:12, just as an FYI edit
Poor Mercer never gets to use Prismatic Spray.
Ahh at last, a timestamp list.. blessings of flando upon you!
As a first-time campaign watcher who knows all the spoilers (not for lack of trying), I absolutely cannot imagine watching this live for the first time
I would be so on edge-
Matt's sadness when saying "I never get to use prismatic spray" was pure gold
One of several lessons learned (I hope): don't fight an ancient dragon right after fighting an ancient dragon, without rest.
I am so glad they slowed down the rate the fan art work changes, I get a much better view of it now. Such great work by so many!
I still have nearly 2 whole years to catch up on? See you guys in 2020
I'm there with you bro :(
Four months from that comment, and looking at the number of episodes, don't think of it as 2 years to catch up on, think of it as being halfway to episode 46 of the new campaign.
Just got here. What episode you on now?
Same
We are so far behind
After all that had been happening until then, that one critical fail was both terrifying and hilarious. Also, Raishan is now tied for first with Ripley in my top favourite Critical Role antagonists.
I still value Ripley higher, because she was a character I wanted to learn more about, Raishan is just an evil backstabber whom Vox Machina knew well enough to do the backstabbing first.
I think Raishan is pretty interesting. It's rare for a dragon to be that empathetic and go so low as to ally itself to "humans", even if deceptively.
Ripley literally just stole Percy's work and wrote her name on it.
Sarah Andrea Royce Though if Raishan's story is true (and I think it is), wouldn't that make THORDACK the backstabber? He broke the deal first. When you think of that, then Raishan actually hasn't betrayed anyone yet. Quite the opposite actually. Everyone backstabs HER.
^THIS!
most people have figured that Raishan would have back-stabbed the party eventually
Sam is the best bard. He's such a great singer, but he's so clever in the little lyrics he comes up with off pop songs. Even as a bard that was just a smooth talker, he's so good at it.
Laura should roll up a bard after Jester. 😄
1:21:12
"Have you heard of Scanlan, the bold?
He won't tell us his age, but he's old.
With his blade, he's a slayer,
With the ladies, a player,
but if he picks up the flute, he's pure gold."
─Laura Bailey, 2017
Scanlan: *loves the limerick*
Also Scanlan: "I cast lightning bolt."
In this episode, Vox Machina play "The Floor is Lava."
The fact that an enlarged Grog yells "Catchphrase" before free guy was released makes this so much better. Grog is Dude 🤣
I look forward to Sam's ad reads so fkn much every single episode. He somehow manages to keep it fresh and entertaining every time
"Spider-Percy, Spider-Percy, kills his enemies with no mercy! Look out!!! Here comes Spider-Percy!"
Spi de Rolo~
"Except when his guns blow up in his face-y!"
yup
Can he swing from a Web, no he can't he's a Percy, looook out, it's spider Percy
Is he smart? Listen bub.
He's got lightning in his glove.
Some spells casted by Raishan!

I had been spoilered long ago about what was going to happen, but that didn’t make it any less heart-wrenching.
“Don’t cry... I’m just a little cold...!”
My eyes almost welled up.
2:53:38 Matt - "My iPhones out, my god." Sam: "He's calling an Uber 'cause he knows we're going to kill him after this is done." *general laughter* It's funny because it's true.
at 01:09:04 it's hilarious how Vex has told Grog it's ok not to heal her, but then Laura tells Travis (with a subtle nudge with her left thumb) to actually heal her.
I love Travis' reaction at 2:44:53
Marisha: "Well THAT was a Natural 1"
Travis: "On what? On what??" He looks around, ready to laugh/cringe at a Nat 1, but notices Matt's solemn face
Matt's face spoke for me at that moment. It was the cherry on top of a whole night of awful dice rolls. I was so done with those fucking dice by that point.
She shouldn’t have needed to roll at all for such a small jump. The whole episode was mostly a mess, continuing on from the last.
Honestly I'm so happy that Raishan got away with Thordak's corpse and two (damaged) eggs because that makes the story going forward so much more interesting. I'm excited to see what's next.
I love Taliesin's positivity, reassuring everyone when they're disappointed in their roll or got counterspelled or something.
Laura's limerick was fire
It was so damn good. I want a 'Laura Bailey's Book of Limericks' ASAP.
“So I’m gonna use Lightning Bolt”
9
And thank god it was, or they never would've had J'mon.
I am SO in love with Laura's limericks (I mean, with Laura in general but...). She only made 2 so far but they're always top-notch! I wish so bad it became a running theme and she would make some more often, like everytime she'd ask something of Scanlan!
