"Jarret is not the hero you guys are in this situation" when the fight is over, he goes up 6 levels from the crazy amount of experience compared to his npc guard status
Let's have some fun: we'll assume he's using an up-leveled Veteran stat block, so he's about level 6 or 7 from all the stuff he's seen in their employ(dragons, ghostly assassins, etc) Level 7 puts him at 23000xp. From all this he would have gained a total of 82600 XP, or enough to jump him from level 7 straight to level 12, and well on his way to level 13. From Boromir to Gandalf power levels. In one battle. Even if he was only level 6, he'd still have plenty of XP to hit 12. ZOINKS SCOOB! That man is going to be asking for a raise!!
Such is the fate of Fighters. Until they get their first magic sword (seriously, why is it almost always a sword). They make up for it though by being just that awesome. Attempted jokes aside there's always something touching and inspiring about that kind of person in this type of mess.

Not sure if it’s mechanically accurate, but it certainly makes sense. Still, I don’t think he ever had the chance to reroll his save to see if he’s still frightened? Seems very op to be able to make the whole board frightened with no way to remove the condition if you fail the first save.
@@tovekauppi1616 While i won't deny the possibility that Matt forgot about that. I will note that Matt doesn't explicitly announce all of the rolls he makes for NPC's on their turns, and your standard ancient red dragon has a wisdom save DC of 21. So it's entirely reasonable to assume this regular guy is just stuck shitting himself perpetually because of it.

I'd probably have let Jarret get severely crippled during this fight to take him out of it. EXACTLY MY THOUGHT. I mean I love Trinket, and I wouldn't want Trinket to be killed (just like Scanlan wants), and i know he does damage and even helps sometimes, but I honestly think Jarrett is far more useful than Trinket in a DRAGON fight. Again, no hate against Trinket, I'm a beast master as well so I do understand Laura's love for Trinket, but in this case, if I were her, I would keep Trinket in the necklace and give the heroes feast to Jarrett.

Even matt said that it was around 30k when laura asked matt how much she owed zara (I think he was trying to cover for zara's player thinking it was rare and telling laura it was only 5k, that's why he said 30k instead of 50k)

Instead it's usually him reminding the party of stuff, often to their benefit.
@M Smith those abilities actually come from items that they possess that do allow the breaking of the 20 limit. I can't remember where this was but I know Marisha said somewhere that she'll hear Matt practicing weird monster noises in their house and think to herself "oh god what are we going to be fighting now". So yeah he totally spends ages practicing various monster sounds.
I don't know if giving Kima haste as well as Pike here would be a good or a bad thing (given her Leroy Jenkins tendencies). On the other hand, at the end of the episode, that becomes trivial given the poor choices of others
@@spaceman9599 they got very impatient and too m,uch into roleplay. If they were META gaming then they would have planned everything and brought all the forces, but they plated hastedly as their character would have, especially after fucking up with the fire plane(i still think it was worth it, especially cause of the Aasimar children which are cute). They didnt have time to think about equipping their NPCs with the good items they had or even going and buying more fire resistance things(or anti-dragon damage things)
Fr though there should be a way to level up animal companions, like feeding them elementally charged dragon flesh and them then ascending to Elemental guardians, rather than just getting armour
@goosepapoose8666 I mean as players they know the flow of the game and that they can just go through all their notes and allies and gain help. But roleplaying as character who are in a hurry and faced with impending doom you kind of don't think clearly or that you have enough time to exhaust all your options. I know it's not meta to plan. I just meant if you're roleplaying very well, then for example when you're wounded you do keep acting wounded and not like it's just a number on the paper

Also "how did Keyleth know Raishan was going to do something to Thordak's body?" Gee I dunno maybe it has something to do with the fact that she's been talking about how Thordak is the key to her sickness and she flew into the pit where his body is.
Bless Sam for trying so hard to cheer Marisha up after those first couple of rounds - you can see the disappointment on Marisha's face when the spells she'd been hyping for a couple of weeks turned out to be more or less ineffective, and it seems like Sam was really trying to hype up every good hit from Keyleth for the rest of the fight

Gotta love Matt saying that he's not that much of a hero. The dude followed them to Thordak's lair. Forget bonuses, he deserves a raise. Possibly two or three.
Poor Jarrett. He’s just a guy with a crossbow, trying to make his way through the world. Now he’s buying drugs for gnomes, getting dragged into epic battles with insane dragon gods, and DID NO ONE TELL HIM ABOUT RAISHAN?!?!?
No, but when he critted on that reaction attack and looked super sad at the low damage i felt really bad because he forgot to roll his extra d12's. He shorted himself 2d12 from brutal critical

Again, no hate against Trinket, I'm a beast master as well so I do understand Laura's love for Trinket, but in this case, if I were her, I would keep Trinket in the necklace and give the heroes feast to Jarrett.

I think it's just him having played so many systems over like 20ish years of playing. 5e rules are like 5% maybe of his experience, it's not hard to believe he flubs this sort of thing. Also, the players could be asked to know their single character to at least question Matt or remind him on that sort of thing. Instead it's usually him reminding the party of stuff, often to their benefit.
@M Smith those abilities actually come from items that they possess that do allow the breaking of the 20 limit. I just meant if you're roleplaying very well, then for example when you're wounded you do keep acting wounded and not like it's just a number on the paper
Personally I think it's way too convenient that the amulet auto protects the dumb mascot. At some point Laura should be REQUIRED to learn from her carelessness with some kind of consequence.
I noticed he specified that the vestige hit the crystal. I knew that could be a way to break it
An artifact made from titans and primal elementals beaten by a weapon made from gods or close to it, poetic when you think of it
@@darkvizardking69 What titans and primal elementals? Allura and the Arcana Pansophica made the crystal...
@@AGhastlyGengar the spell is tied to the crystal, but it's made from the elemental plane. A giant anchor meant to keep him there.
@@AGhastlyGengar They didn't make the crystal, if I recall correctly it was formerly the heart of a titan of the fire plane. Allura and the Arcana Pansophica just utilised it in tricking Thordak to bind him with the Fire plane
@@DannyMakesVideosIGuess Yes, they couldn't destroy the crystal. That's why they tied it to Thordak (and he couldn't destroy it either).
So it seems the vestiges might be one of the few things able to destroy the crystal.
It also seems that whisper might have activated it's 2e form.

Same Fan Base: Vox Machina are idiots for *not* trusting Raishan, a Lawful Evil entity.
Y'all should just realize that VM is listening to the great advice from Victor: LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES!
A Lawful Evil entity whose title is literally 'the Diseased Deceiver' and is from a race of congenital liars and betrayers.
"omg why would Vax attack the lying monster that wiped out a quarter of his girlfriend's family, participated in the destruction of their home, threatened them into a deal, and is part of a species renown for being lying deceptors."
Also "how did Keyleth know Raishan was going to do something to Thordak's body?"
Gee I dunno maybe it has something to do with the fact that she's been talking about how Thordak is the key to her sickness and she flew into the pit where his body is.
@@Brainwave101 And literally told them that she was going to use the spell that lets you speak to the dead to get the cure.

Maybe she should you know do her job and actually learn what they do? It’s not hard dude.

Once this is all over, they're gonna have 3 episodes of just R&R, rebuilding their castle, drinking oceans of ale, and rekindle a kingdom.
I'm lookin' forward to it in 2017~
BOOM FOUR FUCKING DRAGONS IN WHITESTONE WHADDUP GET SUM MORE VESTIGES is what probably is gonna happen
And just when they think everythings fine, Matt is going to have a new character come into town.
The next arc is Gilmore ruling as a dark and fabulous tyrant over the land with his army of nude male demons.
YES
Once everything is calmed down, and cities are closer to finished being rebuilt. In Whitestone people have been disappearing, upon inspection someone has been leading people down into siphoning orb of death. Vekna makes its presence known, and that it's undead armies will bring the land to ultimate decay.
Jerrit misses both attacks
Grog&Scanlan: Your annual review is coming up, needs improvement
Jerrit: Oh?
To be fair, they dragged a crossbow wielding guard to a dragon fight and didn't beef him up in any way. No vestige, magical items, heroes feast nothing.
Kasino80 but someone calculated how much xp he has if he started at level 7 which seems reasonable and he should be level 12 by now so he far from a regular guard
2:32:07
Gotta love Matt saying that he's not that much of a hero. The dude followed them to Thordak's lair. Forget bonuses, he deserves a raise. Possibly two or three.
Say the guys ladened down with spare magic items they forgot to give their vanilla employee who has half their level...
Its cute that Scanlan actually quietly squeaked in fear after Thordak said 'Good!' to him at 56:20
Poor Jarrett. He’s just a guy with a crossbow, trying to make his way through the world. Now he’s buying drugs for gnomes, getting dragged into epic battles with insane dragon gods, and DID NO ONE TELL HIM ABOUT RAISHAN?!?!?
am i the only one screaming “PLUS TEN” when grog hit a nat 20 w/ great weapon master
No, but when he critted on that reaction attack and looked super sad at the low damage i felt really bad because he forgot to roll his extra d12's. He shorted himself 2d12 from brutal critical
Matt said he can't use great weapon master during a reaction just when Grog is attacking in his turn.
Can't use GWM on a reaction and I don't think he rolled brutal critical either so it's sad either way
@@Nate-qf5zp According to the feat you actually can, you just don't get the extra attack from critting on a reaction.

Fun fact: Thordak lasted about 35-40 seconds against Vox Machina and Co....
EDIT: More like 30-35 seconds...
5 rounds?
I think we can all agree that sometimes it's better to just ignore the "6 seconds per round" rule for the sake of the epicness of fighting dragons.
Yeah I'm responding to a year old comment, what of it?
@@shadowninja7453 Absolutely Nuthin wrong with that!
Well to be fair, Vax eviscerated him in the third round with a nat 20 sneak attack divine smite dragonbane sword.

I think you mean season 4. There's absolutely no way they'll fit all of the Chroma Conclave in just one season.
@@LucasDeziderio Well, they DID confirm that Season 3 was greenlit because they couldn't fit all of the CC arc in ONE season, so maybe season 3? Regardless, I am praying we get this scene.

@Kel'Thuzad you're a idiot
The person that cheated in this is Marisha. She gave orders for him, and she wasn't even there to see it.

I think it is neither a spoiler nor in any way hyperbole to promise you that this is not going to be the last time Liam O'Brien will make you tear up. XD
Liam is notorious for making the fandom cry. Welcome to the fandom! Hope you enjoy the ride.
I never realized how important of a fight this was for Liam. He lost his mother in real life and this helped him get a sense of closure killing thordak who killed his mom. That's why they were all so emotional.

@@BigggusDikkkus seems unfair to expect normal people to be as passionately involved as these guys, especially since they are actors. there's a reason this show took off when others didn't. can't hold a normal dnd group to this standard.

@@kaylee6584 I can understand this a bit. These guys are entertaining as heck, but when it comes to combat, and especially understanding their spells, they are basically useless.
