With a metal door, all you need to hang a wreath or anything else, is a large round, rubber coated magnet that is made for just that. You put wire on the wreath, and hang it on the magnet that has a hook built in. Because it is rubber coated, it won't scratch the door. They hold a lot of weight. I've been using them for years.

Hi Kaye. Watching your video reminded me of what it was like when I moved up to TN a yr ago today. We had no signal for internet or phone so my son put in signal extenders. We also have the water issue and it rained everyday last feburary. I was ready to build an ark. But the good thing is I was able to see where to plant a garden and where not too. I've decided to dig "gutters" to direct the water the way I want it to go. Maybe make it decorative by putting river rocks in it. That might work for you. I've had no problem with rock under the soil. I've been digging down several feet with no problem and I hope thats the case for you. I love your front porch. I wish I had a covered wrap around. And the lovely trees in your front yard. TN is a beautiful place.
I am so enjoying your adventure and renewed life. I love the porch and views you have. The store sounds great with healthy meats. Looking forward to the interviews you will set up also. Blessings.

Is winter your rainy season there in Tennessee? I saw you mention Permaculture in reference to a comment someone posted in another vlog. I can see how swales could definitely benefit your property. I need to create a small one in my own backyard. I have a reasonably priced gas chipper/shredder that I purchased at Harbor Freight. My handyman and his friend delivered and assembled it, and showed me how to use it... It is called a "Predator" and let me tell you it is amazing! It's been able to handle every branch up to 3 inches in diameter. I ask my yard guys to start it everytime they came to mow, until I got through the learning curve. Actually they were so impressed with it... that they always helped feed the branches in for quite awhile. ☺ You will always have plenty of tree branches and leaves to make compost with. If I can do it... you can... as your "can do" attitude is so much stronger than mine ... it is quite empowering to learn something new! My only regret is that I didn't get this 15 years ago!!

Hey Kaye sorry I have not been commenting on your videos lately. We only came back to youtube last week or so, having been away for such a long time! Still doing catch ups on all my favorite channels! Just Grabbed a coffee! Hope your sister will be ok! Just take one day at a time! Fingers crossed! The squishy area looks ideal for growing marsh vegetables but obviously being your back garden your gonna have to get that sorted or you could have damp problems in your property, I think the best way would be to dig a trench leading through the mounds to a lower area and then fill with course gravel and cover it back over. Start your trench from the middle of the lowest point where it collects most water. Anyways great video! Hope you have a happy Christmas and New Years stay safe :)
Kaye, as others have mentioned, a new seal on the garage door and have a technician adjust the door position a little lower when it closes. Also, the crack can be opened up some and filled with a fiber epoxy for strength.
@@Latebloomershow For the crack I'd start with foundation contractors, type in foundation repair in your search engine. The door, any contractors that replace garage doors. Here, they go by 'Overhead doors'. Ours are 23-30 miles away and some want mileage.
You should probably do raised bed gardening and also compost everything you can find. Leaves, grass, etc., it all composts. And get manure from some farmer and add that to the leaves and grass to make good compost.
I want to do that ASAP, just need to decide where to locate the compost... how or whether to cover it, etc. I can pay Darrell to pick me up a load, however, as he pointed out, can't guarantee what the horses were fed. And the mowers didn't collect the grass, it was distributed back on ground as bits.
Lovely video. You could use some of your dry twigs (we call them" cippins" in Ireland) to start the fire. You can clean the black on glass with dry paper towel and small blob of Cif or hob cleaner.
Yes I had the same problem with my garage door. You can buy a new seal and your son can probably change it when he comes. It's easy to do my son changed mine in about 10 minutes.
@@Latebloomershow I don't believe he had to use any. Or maybe a screw driver. I know his wife helped to pull it on and she is a tiny little thing. Let me ask him and I will get back to you.
It almost looks like someone made that gap at the bottom of the garage. Maybe someone did that so while their car was warming up the fumes wouldn't fill up the garage. Also check put Roots and Refuge they live in Arkansas and have lots of rocks too. They made the most beautiful raised beds. I pray you enjoy your new home and pray the Lord give you strength while you are settling in. The place is absolutely gorgeous 😍 ❤ 💕
Until you get your garage door/cement issue fixed, stuff some steel wool in that large space and just leave the car door down, use the "people" door in the meantime. And I know you already know the value of wood chips! I have wet areas like that too (lots of rain in western Oregon!) I deleted my grassy yard area and replaced it with wood chips ... they do a lovely job sopping up the water so my dogs don't have muddy feet. You'll have pruning that needs to be done; buy yourself a good quality wood chipper for next season; after you get your french drain installed, replace some of the grass with wood chips. My husband and I are dinosaurs that still have a land line too.
I would imagine, 4 years later (now, in 2025), the floor's fixed, the gasket's been replaced, there are plenty of raised beds and tonnes and tonnes of woodchip being added all the time to soak up excess water and create a good layer of compost.
You brought back memories to me with cleaning out the wood stove! For 30 years we lived in the mountains of North west N.J. And that was our source of heat! Now in N.C. Have a gas fireplace! Last Christmas I had a wreath on my front door and a pair of Carolina wrens built a nest and when I opened my door one night in flew the birds! Trying to get them out was comical!!! Also, I won't get rid of my land line for same reasons - emergencies!❤️😊
Morning Darling x I have my Earl Grey Tea x 🍁🎄🍁🎄🍁🎄🍁🎄 x i look at your face and you look so Relaxed sitting outside your Home x ❤ Love the Garland outside x Great space in your Garage x We have a Landline, we do not use it much,, but it great to have it x
Good morning! I'll have another video for your Earl Grey today or tomorrow (depending on getting to use some establishment's wifi. I'll be getting a landline, probably Jan 1.
I have a cell and a landline 😉 My daughter has special needs and Police and EMS can find you with a landline, but have to triangulate to find a cell phone. Time is of the essence in an emergency!! Love watching your metamorphosis! Spread out a bit on that porch! You have good space now!! Breathe...and exhale 😊🎄
Good luck Kaye and congratulations on the new home 🏡!!! I'm actually very excited for your new adventures in TN because I'm in the ATL 😊 All my love 🧡❤️🧡❤️
Once you get your WiFi situation going, you should look into a magic jack! It makes calls over the internet and you pay yearly for service, around $40 a year. I use one for my work from home job, it’s great. Love the new homestead. Cannot wait to see you grow ❤️
We live in Western KY and have a lot of power outages due to wind storms and what not so a cell phone or VOIP line will not work in those situations out in the country. I had to argue with the AT&T guy that I wanted a copper landline....like they had in the olden days. He kept saying that it just was not possible so I asked him why someone I knew 5 miles down the road had a copper landline so he hooked me up to the old copper line. Usually, if you have no electricity out in the country you have no cell service or Internet. I had to have an extender for my Verizon phone and only have a range of maybe 500 feet. Just some things to think about. Love your channel and welcome to my home state!
Next time you have wreath problem hang an aggitional wreath on other side of door. Connect the two wreaths to one another. The will counter weight each other. This is my sister's trick!
See if you can get a landline with internet bundle, we in the woods and we had to have it in the begining . Ask the butcher shop man what they are using
16:35 WRT needing a French drain, This is the second that I said "Oh, dear!" even before you stepped in it. What about putting a second phone on your cell service, a phone you never take out of the house?
You can get large hole filler foam for about $5 at Lowe's until you can fix the gap. I had to get some for behind my stove but for that I got the fireproof kind. It fills big holes or gaps like that....you spray it and it expands or puffs up
@@sherylflowers1378 After I wrote that, I was thinking the same thing, Kaye should call a garage door repair man and see if he can patch repair or might have to replace the entire seal. Worth a try!!
@@mycelticstardust wonder if gorilla glue would work? I don't know it's supposed to be good. Depends I guess if it's waterproof. Your idea could work I'm sure they make some kind of waterproof glue and she could cut the piece to fit.
If you ever need carpentry, kitchen, or flooring, Advanced Flooring of Crossville, TN is excellent. My hubby and I are friendly with Lynn the owner. Mennonites are excellent workers - not inexpensive but very high quality. He also builds wooden pond or lake docks. His company did a lot of work for us when we lived up on the Cumberland Plateau several years ago. I believe but am not certain, his workers or Lynn will travel some distance if the work is extensive enough to justify the travel.
Hm, you had me going there till the last line. I don't know if I have that big a project, but lots of little ones... I'll give her a call, Thanks so much!!
We are very remote and have no WiFi as well. We use the Hotspot on our cellphones to watch TV, go online etc. We can't even get DSL !. Scary to be without a phone .
i'm existing on my hotspot, but you simply can't upload. Took me 15 hours to upload a 15 minute video. And God knows that burned through a lot of data, over my limit already. Got to find a way. Thanks!!
I think the count suits you! I saw you carrying in the wood. Use a bucket of some sort to carry it in and bang it off first. Spiders hang on to that wood. We also have a wood stove and more than once I’ve carried in a spider. Once a brown recluse. Luckily I saw it and killed it. We now use a 5 gallon bucket to carry it in. My husband always cleans the wood really well before he stacks it on the rack but those little buggers can be missed. Just an FYI !!!
@@Latebloomershow they scare me to death. They like dark places and woodpiles so be careful when bringing that wood in. Yes my husband always keeps us in wood !
My in laws live in middle tn they have raised beds from composted horse manure (neighbors horses and they make a compost pile of them) and garden soil. I'd think huglekulture and using what you can find locally to make your raised beds with it'll be great!
@@Latebloomershow I'm switching to big bag beds this spring, but it's more because we are eventually planning on moving (to our own tn homestead) and I don't want to put too much money into it with the idea of moving eventually. I have a few of those beds and they have held up great for 7 years so I bet they'll work well. My in laws neighbor actually made their raised beds and they're lovely raised beds he's a carpenter, but I'm unsure if he's still there or not. If I was going to get permanent nice raised beds I'd get the waist high ones to save my back. As far as drainage I have no idea. I bet what you do will be great!
I wonder if cable television company can do your internet service I think they require you to have a land line...i think ATT phone service does it too they hardwire it
There's a good RUclips channel from a gardener in Tennessee, it's called Appalachia's Homestead, she has tried a variety of gardening methods that worked well for her and might work for you too. 🙂
Raised beds and you can build up the land , bring in dirt , wood chips, its dirt there, other wise those trees wouldn't still be growing. Tennessee does have a lot of rock land
I have a metal hook that hangs on the door you can get them for a $1 at dollar tree ...walmart has them too and it can hold a heavy wreath...it has a thin hook you hang on the door it's a long rod with a hook on the end to hang wreaths and bows....those sticky things seem to fall off especially when the wind and ice condensation gets on the door. I guess it's called a wreath hook...
You may need to get some of those metal trashcans if you want to store stuff in the garage...at least for right now. And I hate to say it, but...mouse traps. Welcome to country life. It will all be worth it!!!
Not sure why you would want to store food in any other buildings? It’s not safe an spreads your food source out not to manage as you age.. Bull in an think 5 ,10 years out. Your Not going to want to Not have your live but less then 50 foot from kitchen. Raised boxes an food prep right out the door. You have so many rooms in your lovely home id revamp one room for that .. Just a suggestion 😉
Ms kaye, I got to thinking that maybe you could benefit from contacting your local master gardener program at the university...also the extention office for the county have all things AG...food growing. The best part.. other gardeners. Merry Christmas....
Already made my presence known at the extension office. Nothing starts back up for months, but I'm on the email list. And he and I talked about deer (the ONLY thing that works long term is an electric fence) and he gave me a prod to take soil samples. Ground has been so hard haven't done it yet. But you are right! That is the best resource!
Every chapter is different...I came to midwest 30 years ago...from your former state I worked several years in parks dept..I got here learned of icestorms ticks and everything that mattered to grow a garden by becoming master gardener and a market gardener...best 2 things was the data base at the university and meeting other gardeners. Then I bought a amish built greenhouse...life....cant imagine it without seeds and friends. Bless you.
Rome wasn't built in a day, week, or year... give yourself some time. Start with one bed.... but right now, take the advice on moving your ash bucket closer, and might wear a mask when you scoop that ash out. :) Take care of your self!
Are you sure you don't live in Gettysburg? That's all we have here is Rock. Large and small. Our whole property is like you said on rock. It's crazy. It was hard to plant things in certain places. It kind of sucks because you have to go with it. Sometimes you just can't have everything. Ugh.
True! But if you manage to catch up on more videos, you will see the lower yard has some pretty good soil, and I put in a 5000 sq ft garden. Too hot to work in it though. Extreme heat weather alert today. Praying I have produced a good crop at end of season. Blessings. YES, rock, rock and more rock.
@@Latebloomershow I know what you're going through. If you are off grid especially. No rain is bad. I told my husband we should have put in a well pump like my grandparents had at thier house because if we wound up losing electricity due to black outs we would still be able to pump water at least! Do you have one of those at your garden? At leat then you could water some things easier!! I would love to have one!!! "The beauty of having a porch." Yes, maam; I have 3 covered porches, East, South and West-facing. Metal door, eh, me too. I have a decorated horse shoe held onto mine (outside), using a strong magnet. My door has only one lock, but I have an M 1911 holstered on the inside! Hey, that garlic is a new one on me. Sell it on your Chanel - I'll buy some. Crack under roll-up garage door is an easy fix. Just replace the weather stripping. You don't need a French drain. Merely cut in a brown ditch with a berm, to divert hillside runoff. Keep a WRITTEN list of all your contacts and buy a "throw-away" phone with purchased minutes -- for just such emergencies.
I wish I could keep up with you! Sounds like you have a good lock just inside the door! I don't even remember the garlic I mentioned. And did not produce any to sell. I did get all the weather stripping replaced on garage doors and had them all repaired and maintenanced. I love that word "merely" hahahahaha, it would take a mini excavator and an experienced man to use it since it is a hillside. $$$ Which is why it never happened. I wish.
A green house would be great here. Besides, all that geoengineering in the skies make the water and soil polluted with heavy metals that will just ruin your produce.
Concerning a house phone, if you can get the traditional phone line do so. With voice over ip, if the electric goes out you won't have a phone. I enjoyed the video. Try not to be overwhelmed. Prioritize.
Ya know, aqua IS your color! I would have felt overwhelmed too.....moving is stressful. Regarding building raised beds, check out tube channel: Roots and Refuge Farm. @@Latebloomershow For the crack I'd start with foundation contractors, type in foundation repair in your search engine. The door, any contractors that replace garage doors. Here, they go by 'Overhead doors'. Ours are 23-30 miles away and some want mileage.
Your porch is beautiful! BTW you're looking great in that blue jacket and your plaid flannel shirt. It suits you there in your new farmstead.
Hm, never heard of Cif or hob cleaner, but thank you!
Same with our garage doors when we bought our house. I'm thinking to pull Christmas lights through. At least we do
Yes I had the same problem with my garage door. You can buy a new seal and your son can probably change it when he comes. It's easy to do my son changed mine in about 10 minutes.
what tools are required, do you know? I haven't located mine yet.
@@Latebloomershow I don't believe he had to use any. Or maybe a screw driver. I know his wife helped to pull it on and she is a tiny little thing. Let me ask him and I will get back to you.
He just answered me he just used a screwdriver.
Haha dinosaur yes!!!
I loved that place Kaye! so relaxing amazing place
Landline is a good idea Kaye.
Will do!
I would imagine, 4 years later (now, in 2025), the floor's fixed, the gasket's been replaced, there are plenty of raised beds and tonnes and tonnes of woodchip being added all the time to soak up excess water and create a good layer of compost.
Your steel door may be magnetic. There are magnetic hangers, hooks, and rods and they work very well.
I love Trudy and Doug.
Me, too! :)
Thank you!!! Much love and happy holidays!
@@Latebloomershow Thank you! Merry Christmas! ❄🎄😊
That make sense about the deck
Good luck Kaye and congratulations on the new home 🏡!!! I'm actually very excited for your new adventures in TN because I'm in the ATL 😊 All my love 🧡❤️🧡❤️
Thank you so much!! I hope to get an agent down there after the New Year. Too much on my plate till Jan.
This is my sister's trick!
raised beds is what we did use the rock as a base.' I'm in Ma. Now rocks are their best crop. We got people to dump all their leaves and chips.
Swells may take care if the water drainage problem
Yes, just need some direction on that, and some help doing it.
See if you can get a landline with internet bundle, we in the woods and we had to have it in the begining . Ask the butcher shop man what they are using
Someone told me to Get a small shop vac for the ash removal.🤷♀️
We still have a landline with no plans of getting rid of it.
Same here. It's very important.
Bless you you’ll get there xox
See you soon 😄🥰👍
16:35 WRT needing a French drain, This is the second that I said "Oh, dear!" even before you stepped in it.
What about putting a second phone on your cell service, a phone you never take out of the house?
You can get large hole filler foam for about $5 at Lowe's until you can fix the gap. I had to get some for behind my stove but for that I got the fireproof kind. It fills big holes or gaps like that....you spray it and it expands or puffs up
I think maybe a piece of large rubber gasket glued to the bottom of garage door, might do the job or some kind of flashing!!
@@mycelticstardust better idea Marie because she will go in and out what kind of glue does she need for that?
@@sherylflowers1378 After I wrote that, I was thinking the same thing, Kaye should call a garage door repair man and see if he can patch repair or might have to replace the entire seal. Worth a try!!
@@mycelticstardust wonder if gorilla glue would work? I don't know it's supposed to be good. Depends I guess if it's waterproof. Your idea could work I'm sure they make some kind of waterproof glue and she could cut the piece to fit.
@@mycelticstardust if she can afford it probably a new seal would be best.
@@Latebloomershow Lynn Miller is a gent and a very nice person and businessman.
Raised garden beds are in your future.
Kaye. if you put the ash bucket closer to the opening of the oven, a lot of the dust from the ashes will be sucked into the opening.
um, why did I not think of something so obvious, haha! Thanks!
Its good to see you in the country! I m from the country too! SC. Your theme song should be...Rocky Top!,lol Its Beautiful
haha yes, I should start singing that.
Yes on French drain!!
The tree is so pretty good idea
Great advice! Thank you!! I don't even know what a brown recluse looks like!! YIKES. Lucky you have a hubs to care over the wood! :)
@@Latebloomershow they scare me to death. They like dark places and woodpiles so be careful when bringing that wood in. Yes my husband always keeps us in wood !
Kaye, Are you planning a garden this spring? I have plenty of seeds if you would like some.
If they are seeds appropriate for this area yes that would be great! POB 2358, Lebanon, TN 37088 thanks!
@@Latebloomershow Yes they are. I will be glad to mail you some. I live in Murfreesboro we are only 45 mins to 1 hour away.
You look so happy there. :) And I love your long hair..!
Thank you!! 😊
My in laws live in middle tn they have raised beds from composted horse manure (neighbors horses and they make a compost pile of them) and garden soil. I'd think huglekulture and using what you can find locally to make your raised beds with it'll be great!
I agree. I'm looking for someone who knows how and where best to build them...and swales.
I love my front porch too! My son wanted this house because of the porch when he was 14, that was ten years ago.
I wonder if cable television company can do your internet service I think they require you to have a land line...i think ATT phone service does it too they hardwire it
some people get a landline you'll need it for security too
There's a good RUclips channel from a gardener in Tennessee, it's called Appalachia's Homestead, she has tried a variety of gardening methods that worked well for her and might work for you too. 🙂
I will check it out as soon as I dig my way out of these 100's of boxes to unpack, haha.
I love Patara @ Appalachias homestead💕 shes a no nonesense gal tells you like it is!
The porch looks so pretty you know I love Tennessee so much I wish I was there drinking hot mandarin tea with you.
You may need to get some of those metal trashcans if you want to store stuff in the garage...at least for right now. And I hate to say it, but...mouse traps. Welcome to country life. It will all be worth it!!!
on the list! All Linden does is sleep, so she's no help, haha.
Thats called hauling stuff! They use big old trucks! Welcome to the hill county! Local kind small farms.
Thanks for the tips!
I have not caught up on all of your videos just yet,but I do see where you have a garden at the bottom of your property. A very nice one!!!

omgggg youuuu with the long hairrrr. I love it!!!!
Didn't you have the property inspected before purchase?
Yes, but they only inspect the main building, not the grounds.
I knew I was in for a chunk for the HVAC. Very often report says "working satisfactorily" so you think, okay don't have to worry about that...
I was just thinking about telling you to reach out to steven from nature's always right too since he just moved to TN from Cali.
Love Steven from Natures Always right!. He's from So. California moved in March to Tennessee. He would be an amazing resource for soil and and what hes learned about the topography of Tennesse growing. Hes a market gardener whos very focused on creating healthy soil. With the rain/weather you may want to put in a high tunnel or large green house
"The beauty of having a porch."
Yes, maam; I have 3 covered porches, East, South and West-facing.
I wish.
Where is the interview with the Butcher Block Owner? That interview would be interesting 🐱
I’ve been too busy with all of my ailments and Garden to get over to see him but I will try soon
@@Latebloomershow Hope you are continuing to heal!
You definitely need a landline if you live in the country. You just do.
How very interesting Kate. I too am trying to buy things not made in China. It's not easy is it ?
No, it's is very difficult. I'm trying to remember, are you in OZ or NZ?
A green house would be great here. Besides, all that geoengineering in the skies make the water and soil polluted with heavy metals that will just ruin your produce.
which no one will talk about. Interesting isn't it? A greenhouse is part of the plan, but now I'm not sure where it should be.
@@Latebloomershow You may have to lay some concrete in the backyard and build it there. Like you said with the metal poles in it.
I’m seeing hugelkultur in Kaye’s future! 😍
I'm seeing raised beds 😉
Oh most definitely!
raised beds.
Jess is a master gardener, and she lives in very rocky Arkansas. You will be impressed with what she had accomplished in7 years. You made a good point about country living: it's essential to be a good neighbor, and to build a relationship with a neighbor or two.
