    I totally agree.
I prefer leaf shutter camera system due to full speed sync capability.
Sony is the first full frame camera manufacturer. Phase one launched there 120M system last year.
I can not imagine what impact will influence whole camera industry.
No mechanic shutter, electronic shutter needed any more.
Phase One X shutter will no longer needed, all integrated with digital back.
I will save money and don't spend for any camera system within this 2-3 years and wait to an perfect camera launched.
The Sony A9III mostly will not be perfect one, but the first one.

Unclear that this does anything more than existing technology except add convenience and eliminate a couple of common annoyances. Firstly 120FPS is hardly new. The Olympus E-MII already did 60FPS e-shutter SIX YEARS AGO with pre-capture. Too bad few people knew about it, but Sonyphiles rave about the A9III because it's done with a global shutter, which is not new either. Lots of global shutters out there, including ones that can do 120,000FPS or more, only this one is FF. In case that didn't sink in, that means better quality, not the ability to do something fundamentally different (actually initial tests suggest that you're losing 1-2 stops of dynamic range with the GS). And most people think that GS *by itself* solves banding. FALSE. The global shutter has to sync the exposure at the peak output of a pulsing artificial light source (i.e., LED). Banding is definitely a PITA but can be overcome. That the A9III does this seemlessly is a matter of convenience, not a revolution. And then there's the blackout-free EVF. Ever hear of a rangefinder camera? That's absolutely blackout free. Again, a convenience, not a revolution. Syncing at high shutter speed? Nice, but even 50 year old leaf shutters could accomplish this at 1/500s. Sure it's cool to do it at 1/80,000s but that's why HSS was invented. Okay but HSS can't do it at full power. Well neither can the A9III since it's only capturing a 1/80,000s slice of a light pulse that can be as long as 1/200s. (Besides, how often will you use such fast exposures?) In fact, the color temperature isn't necessarily 5500-6000K for such a short flash duration. Sorry fanboys, it's not a revolution at all, just an incremental improvement for some use cases and a memory card or hard drive full of redundant images.

Anxious to see all the photos taken at 1/80000 second. I guess that Sony has tested that somewhere brighter than my sunglasses can handle. Aside from a nuclear detonation, where is anyone going to get that much light? How will this synch with flash at faster than the flash can operate, even at greatly reduced power? 120 fps only lasts for 190ish frames - less than two seconds. Precapture is nice, but not new. Video capabilities are in line or behind a lot of other cameras.

With so many frames per second a press photographer or his/her editor would have to check a lot of frames in search of the perfect shot that he/she could send to the publisher. That would be time consuming and a hassle if the agency wants the shots on time. Not ideal.

"It'll change everything" is serious exaggeration. RS wasn't really a big problem in 2023, or even 2015. The only thing I see that is very interesting is no longer needing high-speed sync. Also, there's so little information we know about this camera. For instance, how's the dynamic range?

Sony just rendered the A1 irrelevant if you don’t need 8k or 50mp. Sony just dropped a nuclear bomb on the camera industry. Sony has done what they did in the beginning innovative, and because of it and trickle down technology Sony has given us features that will allow us to do things that we weren’t able to do before, if your skill level is up to the challenge. I think when the R1 comes out, that’s when I think Sony will drop a A1 II, which will put Canon on notice again and stealing the show. Way to go Sony, way to go, leadership has its privileges!!!

24mp Sony A9iii with $6k price tag is a useless camera for most users. It maybe a great camera for sports shooters. Otherwise ISO starting at 250 with reduced dynamic range and low resolution of 24mp are not that attractive for other kinds of photography such as landscape and wildlife (for instance for bird photography, cropping is almost inevitable). As for flash photography at shutter speed 1/80000 or at high speed is a gimmick as then one would need an extremely powerful flash light narrow pulse to illuminate the subject to capture a well exposed shot for that short duration of exposer. I think this camera will not sell in huge numbers at that insane price as it caters to only a handful types of photography. It probably is targeted for sports photography for upcoming 2024 summer olympics. This intact is a message that a new kind of technology is emerging and that will impede sell of cameras of other brands such as new Nikon Z8 etc. The weakest point of A9iii is its low resolution 24mp, maybe good enough for sports photography, but not attractive for other kinds of photography where cropping is needed. However, global shutter electronics complemented with high resolution over 45mp, wide dynamic range, image stabilization and advanced AI technology for subject detection and autofocusing will revolutionize photography in coming years!
