  • I'v been using the Android based ebook reader Onyx Boox Palma for a few days now and it's a mixed experience actually. It's great for KOReader and Kindle, but not as good for Storytel or Kobo books. It has a smartphone form factor that could be good if you need a very portable ebook reader and with KOReader installed on all your e-Readers you can sync your progress between them. If you are a Kindle user you can sync everything between your Boox Palma running the Kindle app and your Kindle e-Readers. Sync Highlights, notes, books and reading progress.

    Stefan! I have enjoyed your watchfaces for so long without knowing who made them and I am so glad to find you here on RUclips. I am also a big fan of e-ink tech and I this was a great review. Looking forward to seeing more of you in the future my friend! Liked and subscribed!

    how is the batterylife and screen brightness on the onyx boox palma, sad that the kobo books integreation is so pourly though. Is it sluggish or buggy with the kobo kooks ? Thanks for an great review as always Stefan ....

      Battery life and screen brightness is excellent. About the same as the kobo Clara 2E. Kobo app is sluggish and featureless. But if you use KOReader on your kobo and also on the Boox then you get great experience and books in sync.

    would love it if you could make another video, going through different library apps too: libby, borrow box, hoopla etc.

      Sorry I can’t do that because they don’t work in Sweden.

      @@svartling seems like libby does work in Sweden according to the overdrive website (libby’s parent company), have a look at your local library whether they support it. Happy reading.

    Appreciate your comprehensive review. How were you able to install KOReader into your Boox Palma?

    • @svartling
      @svartling  2 месяца назад +1

      I download the KOReader apk file from KOReader GitHub page. And then installed it as a normal app. Then I was lazy so I copied the settings from my KOReader on my kobo devices so I got all the settings exactly the same. You don’t have to do that. You can of course set everything up from scratch if you prefer that.

      ooohhh...a bit complicated huh? will try to follow 2nd option (start from scratch) as I do not have a separate Kobo device. Thank you@@svartling

      @rapscruz3104 it’s very simple to download and install it at least. Go through all the settings and set it up as you want it can take a while before you are satisfied. But if you don’t have it installed anywhere else then you have to set it up from scratch.

    I have an old e-inl Android based nook, and being Android based is really nice, unfortunately it's an incredibly old version of android which makes it impossible to use with modern software, and it's getting increasingly hard to find the older versions of apps that do work. Personally I'm not a fan of the smartphone form factor but I'm definitely going to look into their bigger form factor readers.

      android based has its benefits but a lot of apps gets very slow so you have to find an app that is fast enough to have a good user experience

    Hi, Do you have any suggestions for the easiest way to install Koreader on the Palma?

    • @svartling
      @svartling  8 дней назад +1

      There is only one way, you install the app by downloading the apk file from KOReader GitHub page and then click install. It is that easy because the Palma is just a normal Android device. Use the browser on the Palma.

      @@svartling Thank you that worked perfectly. I am trying to setup to sync Koreader library and book progress across devices (Palma and Kobo) like you have demonstrated. Do you have any pointers how to set that up in Koreader?

    • @svartling
      @svartling  8 дней назад

      @richardspitz3192 you can’t sync the library just reading progress. But it only takes a few seconds/minutes to send the same book or books wirelessly to all your devices from Calibre. That’s what I do. Reading progress you set up with the reading progress feature in the settings menu. Use the same account and server on the devices you want to sync with.
