Cold blooded murder and violent crime are rapidly on the increase among the young people of Japan, in a country which once had one of the lowest crime rates in the world.
High school bullies, bedroom-bound cyber geeks and a growing number of teenage gangs have produced a current wave of brutal, violent crime that is sweeping through communities across Japan.
Teenage Japanese Killers seeks to understand why this once peaceful society is producing a class of young, violent killers and why Japan itself is angst-ridden about this frightening problem. Through individual case studies, this documentary provides a fascinating insight into 21st century Japanese society. From the young killer who wants to be a lawyer, to families of the victims, this documentary attempts to make some sense of the bizarre, motiveless murders occurring at an ever-increasing rate throughout Japan

I feel AWFUL for Yuhei's father, that poor, gentle, lovely man. Imagine not only losing your child, but to FIND them and see what they'd suffered... Only to see his killers go on without any discipline or rehabilitation alike...
I hope he is well and still prays for his boy, and that those prayers give him something to hold onto.

He experienced many of the same things the columbine shooters experience. Number one on that list is failure and rejection. It's the same for spree shooters, or that cop that shot other cops in California. It was the same thing for the first man to go postal and shoot up his place of work. Most if not all people who do things like this profile pretty close to the same. This doesn't explain why some who go through the same things never become violent. Some can feel like their life is over due to failure and hurt no one but the ones who do hurt have a half dozen distinct things in common out of a list of ten or so. Other killers like serial killers are different than spree shooters or mass murder in a short period of time.

What I don't understand adults bullying a person in person or on the internet. There is a difference between disagreement and having an alternate opinion which many call bullying too. Bullyings is when you attack a person personally on something that they are sensitive about.
The difficulty comes when no one knowing what a person is sensative about if there's no attack on who that person is. So innocently many are accused of bullying since people are hypersensitive.
Example, my niece said I was bullying her when I like something else not different from what she like. Apparently, that's a big issue with millennials, they tent to want people to agree with them if not they get hurt and call it mean or bullying. We were simply having a general conversation I said I liked something else without commenting on what she like. Now rarely have a deep conversation based on ideas with millennial since they are so easily hurt and tend to labal someone as a troll, meaning mean, or bullying simply for having a disagreement.

Japan has a two face culture,on the surface they are expected to act perfect, study well and not cause drama. There is pressure that people cannot cope and mental health issues are not addressed because of the stigma. Hence in suppressed culture a dark side exists whether it be strange pornography or lashing out,the alternative is suicide which is high in Japan. Japan needs to address these stigmatised issues and not expect everyone to behave the same way. Many think Japan is a great place to live but I disagree because people feel forced to suppress their real self, parents need to be trained in this, social isolation and games are an issue

I don't think its game that makes it any worse. I also grew up in asian family where grades were everything. I spend most of my life after school in prep class, ap class, leadership camp etc. The only time I really get to go out with friends were birth days. I also turned to video game to help me coupe with depression and for me it worked.
The main problem in asia is that you get ONE chance at the college exam basically. Starting from elementary school ( china, south korea and Japan), you have to go to better middle school which has better teachers that allows you higher chance to get into better high school. In high school many students go to class 7-7pm then after 7pm they go to these study classes till 12pm sometimes. Then they go home to study more. I remember my cousin she told me she slept for 3 hrs everyday for 3 years straight in high school. Once you get into a good high school, from there you have a higher chance of getting into better college which leads to jobs at big corporation with good pay and long hours. If you mess up ONCE along the line of this very LONG preparation you are fucked unless your parents are well off and can send you aboard for american / uk colleges usually. Imagine if you had one chance and as teens ( we all make mistakes that is how you GROW organically) you made a mistake and you can no longer go to a better high school --> college --> job. Without a good job it is VERY HARD to find a PARTNER to marry and have kids. You are told your whole life is fucked up and ur done. Let me ask you a question, will you continue to behave if you no NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO your life is shit anyways? or will you just rebel and live how the fuck you want since its over anyways?
My mom always told me never to push or corner even your worst enemy because when a person has nothing to lose that is when they are the scariest. This is exactly what is happening to these kids. In the west you have multiple opportunity to work up. My husband goofed around in high school but he still makes as much as me if he was in asia he is done. I can't even blame these kids the discipline required by asian culture is toxic.

I understand. Dealing with that amount of pressure your whole life could break anyone. I truly emphasize with those cultures struggles and wish it would change just a little. I say "just a little" because being born and raised American I feel most of us have a lack of concern for taking responsibility for ones actions and aspirations of success. We've unfortunately become a society where so many feel entitled to free handouts and a lack of hard work. I think the rich in America certainly put too much pressure on their children to be successful as to not soil the family name, whereas the poor in America (not all of them of course) tell their children the government will take care of you so f*** it just get on food stamps and government housing and by the way, if you get a job you'll get less benefits and also if you have more children you'll get more benefits. It's sad to see that none of our countries can find the solution. More freedom and government handouts creates laziness and dependency...less freedom and more control creates overwhelming pressure for success and leads to a feeling of worthlessness. Where is the middle ground? I hope we find it someday.

But no one around me nor in my school burst, as far as I know. Well, they may burst internally lol, but at least they didn't murder. I found what I have overcome in my teenager years made me stronger and more determined as well as more resistance to pressure. Without all the pressure I have managed to overcome, I would never have been strong enough to made to study abroad alone right after high school without being able to speak a single Japanese word. It was absolutely difficult when I was going through the school days but I certainly feel grateful for what it has made me looking back from now. Like it said, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Anyways, I just wanted to say blaming the system is unfair cuz millions of other Asian kids are going through the same thing or even worse. and I believe that kids in America or any other western countries would have their own problems too. But the majority of them grew up fine and kind. I think scumbags are born scumbags. Or maybe parenting and one's family has more to be blamed than society.

Parents, but mostly teachers are incapable of preparing children for life outside of their control. They force children to go down a path whose purpose is to make them obedient and docile and, once they reach the end of that path, thrust them into a world which preys upon obedient and docile people. This is their way of retaliating against the society that made them this way.

As someone living in Japan I see these punks and they don’t act tough around me. Most of these kids are depressed, trying to live up to the old traditions. They can not express themselves freely here in Japan. They have to live in this bubble where everyone is to think the same and never ask questions. Yeah, they say you can ask questions but when you do you are looked at as being difficult. It is sad watching how Japanese people just move through life without any thinking to it. Even at the work place you can not have ideas, no one wants to hear them most people are over worked and not because of work but because of how they worry about how others at work will look at them. So many people get off by 5:30 but don’t get home until 11 or 12 at night. The reason for this is if you work in a place and as long as others are at work but you have finished many will stay around because they don’t want to be looked at different. They aren’t getting any extra pay even if asked to stay late. Most got the job with the thought of working from 8:30 - 5:30 but that 5:30 never is your finish time.

Men are too tired to even start a family and kids are very expensive to have. Look at how much a school bag costs.... it is at least $1,000. On top of that, Japan taxes are high. Reason is... there are more elderly than there are young people. Someone got to pay for the elderly to be cared for. Who? The young generation. They change the age of juvenile crime as well on early 20’s, 14 years old and above will be tried as an adult in the court of justice and 14 years old below on juvenile jail or recreational center.

i never regret getting into japanese culture and pop culture and learning the language tho. anime and manga are in fact something that made and still make me.
but yeah i'm 19 now and kind of grew over it. the only thing i hope to happen in the future is that the younger generations will be able to break the chains, which is already happening very slowly.
but in the end, japan still has a very big problem regarding school, work, mental health care, socializig, etc. and that makes me sad. it's not only japan tho.

What about Junko Furuta ? ...in 1989, the murder of this abducted 17 years old school girl was preceded by 44 days of innumerable rapes and impossible to describe tortures of all sorts... this case ranks at the top bracket of the most horrendous crimes ever committed in world history. Her 4 tormentors and assassins, juveniles at the time, are now roaming free the streets of Japan, after just a few years in detention, not mentioning the tens of men who raped the beaten girl, days after days at the invitation of the 4 devils... those were never really sought after... not mentioning the parents of the 4 devils either, 2 at least knew everything, since the girl was detained in their own house (she even pleaded once to them to be released but they were "afraid of their son" !)...

I've been bullied too--albeit not as severely as those in this video--so I can somehow understand how that can make someone feel distrustful and withdrawn, but I hate it when the victims of bullying direct their rage at innocent strangers. It's so lame and cowardly how they often try to look vicious and intimidating in front of these scared random strangers when they can't even give their bully a punch. If you're determined to die or go to jail, at least hurt only those who've hurt you and leave innocent people alone. Their actual bullies who are safe at home are probably amused and proudly thinking, "the public is scared of this wimp? ha! he could never stand up to me."

what i wish someone told me that "this!! this is nothing because as an adult things are going to get worse"
as an adult you have to work or you wont eat , you have to get a job you have to work hard at that job because your employer wont tolerate
an employee wo is not productive you have no other option its either you put up with that or you remain hungry and homeless .
i get so tired as an adult to the point i miss my teenage years because i cant sleep also i have anxiety attacks everyday i wake up
sometimes i feel like i can collapse and die because my chest keeps tightening, when i see random people smiling and laughing i get so jealous of how happy people look when i haven't been happy for along time , anyway i know look's can be deceiving .
i feel so sorry for the parents whos son was killed and they were ever notified of the trial or verdict they had to find out through one of the teachers, i mean somebody was bribed .the had such difficult time trying to bring him to this world only for him to be killed like that so sad.

I have always felt that the Japanese culture is very brutal. The work commitment is extreme and as a consequence children do not spend enough time with their parents. The systems in school are promoting competition and endless ranking of students and their performances. The child feels alone, worthless and invisible. Violence is a way to take back the control. If you feel like that you have to work 15 hours rather than 8 for which you are paid then of course your family will suffer. Just bringing money is not enough. Kids need their parents and their unconditional love.

I can’t help but think that this problem is the same as the problem of young Japanese men choosing to retreat and become a hermit in their bedroom in their parents home.
The pressure to do well in school and the excessive amount of studying and exams leads to students having an emotional breakdown, or snapping and becoming violent as a way to express their pent up anger, frustration, and resentment.
If by 15 years old a child knows whether they can go to university and onto a good career, or not, their future would seem hopeless if they failed that all important exam.
I think the cramming students have to go to after a full day of school is just too much. They’ll be exhausted and unable to cope with the idea of failing their exams and disappointing their parents. It’s hard enough dealing with the pressures of being a teenager, but if you then add on the incredible pressure and expectation to succeed at school, it’s not that surprising that some kids are rebelling or becoming criminals.
If they’re not taught how to manage their feelings it’s likely that they’ll either repress their emotions until they breakdown, or they act out violently to release their anger.
It’s really important that these kids are taught that they are intrinsically valuable and loved, whether they succeed at school or not; and that there’s still a future for them even if they don’t succeed in their exams and go to university.
