At about 7:00 he describes the vine growing at the corner of the chicken pen which produces a "sack of potatoes". It is Dioscorea Trifida, also known as Yampi in Spanish. It produces a cluster of true tropical yams maybe one pound or so each. They are exported into the US from Costa Rica and are available at Hispanic grocery stores. You will usually find them with wax on the upper part of the tubers which looks like a "neck", that is to preserve them to keep them from drying out.
Que bonito su fincita y casa Christian! Un dia quisiera conocerlo. Tenemos finca en Leon, Nicaragua- un clima muy diferente. Maravilloso ver tu trabajo. Se puede ver tu alegria y orgullo de la finca :)
In Nicaragua, one can meet the Jicarao. They leave the seeds to dry out in the sun and ferment a little, and then they make a delicious drink called Semilla de Jicarao!
Jicara fruit pulp when ripe is dissolved in Sherry wine, and used in Mexico as cough syrup. I had asthma when young and took a lot to ease lungs congestion ☺️
The jicara is known as calabash tree. They scoops the inside and boils it then they strain the water. They drink that because of its medicinal properties.
Howdy, thank you for your videos. I watch so many, however I kinda feel bummed with this episode since I am believer in permaculture, and when I saw how the bees were treated, it was depressing. I know it's no one's place to tell people you visit how to live, but I feel that as the person recording and sharing messages, to be aware of what message we want to give and be more thoughtful in sharing how we want other people to take care of our planet and natural resources in harmony. My feedback is not meant to create any disrespect, just sharing that as a viewer, it's great to see content that supports more permaculture and less "man dominating land and animals" which can sometimes be blurred with homesteaders. Cheers my friend. And again thank you for putting all this work in sharing.
