Watching from the UK, I was always taught to pull the rhubarb sticks not cut them, that way you get more regrowth! 😊
Thank you for the tip! Several people have said that, we had no idea
I live in Canada now, born in Ireland ,my dad taught me that also🇨🇦🍀
I was going to comment this, too! I have heard it’s more damaging to the plant to cut it.
There is nothing like family, food, and fun at the cabin. Where memories are made.❤
Y’all are one amazing family, I love how you don’t get any back talk from the boys when you ask them to do something that’s wonderful parenting. Mark is such a wonderful father and husband he jumps in wherever needed, his mom did a fantastic job raising him. I love how no one complains about any meals or snack you prepare. This video was amazing thank y’all for sharing it with all of us. God Bless y’all! Hi Luna!
One time about sixty one years ago, we had a fierce snow storm. We lost our power and my oldest brother was somewhere out in the storm. No cell phones then. The rest of the siblings were all pretty young and very worried about our big brother. So my mother got to work and made a big pot of blackberry dumplings on the top of our wood stove. They really cheered us up. The next morning Jack came strolling in. He had spent the night riding the snowplow until he got to our house and the driver let him off. I never make blackberry dumplings that I don’t think about that long ago night. ❤️
banana boats is a staple treat when we go camping. we almost always eat then over winter when we go camping as a whole family.
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SUNSET
I know you wanted sunshine while at the cabin, but the Hamm Family makes the most out of every situation. Thats one of the many reasons I enjoy watching This Alaska Life, so much!!!
👍👍
I can see why that's such a special place for your family! Lots of fun and adventure topped with lots of delicious food! Doesn't get any better than that!
Thank you so much for being here!
Thank you. I really enjoy your cabin trips. You can see how much the family love them, and all the behind the scenes preparations.
What a beautiful drive. I bet your happy to stock your freezer with fresh salmon. You do a good job with your videos. Lots of good camera angles. You put an entire week into less than 1 hr and you make it fun and interesting. Nice work Lauren!!
Baby bird and #2 lol love this family vibe!!!!!!!!!!
That rhubarb is amazing! I miss it so much because it’s too hot to grow in southern US. My favorite pie is strawberry rhubarb custard with four eggs and half a teaspoon of nutmeg. Delicious! I have fond memories of making banana boats in Girl Scouts growing up. Have you ever made dough boys? You wrap raw Bisquick dough around a stick and roast it in the campfire. When the biscuit is done you slide it off and fill the center with butter and jam. Yummy!
LOVED this vlog! Good wholesome fun!!! Thank you for distracting me from my chronic pain and depression. Love your family and all your adventures. Keep them coming!
Wow...I love how you captured the Bald Eagle swooping down on the fish carcass!!😯I have learned so much about life in Alaska from watching your amazing videos!! I can't imagine having access to all of the beautiful nature-what a wonderful way to enjoy family and friends!!❤
What an amazing upbringing your children are getting! Thank you for sharing! Loved the video!
Thank you so much!
Good night Lauren and Mark and family and thank you for sharing your beautiful day 🌞
You’re lucky you have all that seaweed for your garden.
What a lovely way of life you and your family have. Having the cabin to travel to is such a blessing. Living the natural life is good for the boys, they just glow with all the adventure’s you have daily. Love your videos. ❤️🇮🇪
Hi Lauren, Love,Love when yous go Camping, I find Watching ur Vlogs very Calming, Thank u so Much for taking Me Along 🥰🥰🥰🥰 🇬🇧
Hi Hamm family! I cheered when I saw the video appear - love times at the cabin! Mark is always so proud of where the spear goes into the fish. Lauren you are so blessed. Thanks for letting us peek into your world ❤
✨WHAT A LOVELY TRIP! WHAT A PEACEFUL STUNNING QUIET SUNSHINE DAY THE LAST DAY, THAT WAS STUNNING! 🤍✨
Looks like a fantastic trip! Loved the shots of the eagles grabbing the fish scraps
We call them Pudgie Pies where I grew up! Pizza or fruit filled most times.
The salmon, rhubarb cobbler n banana boats all look delicious.
We had banana boats as Girl Scouts camping , so yummy ! And I love watching the eagles clean up the shoreline fish 😊
I enjoy your videos. We live in fairbanks. I saw the best salmon your husband was cutting in the video. The backbone salmon meat is best part for salmon Pattie’s or salmon pie. Just spoon off the salmon meat from the backbone. The salmon head is also the best part to boil for soup stock and can be eaten. Inside the cheeks after baked or boiled have great cheek meat and soft cartridge. And is loaded with omega 3.
We made campfire pies when I was a kid too! We also cooked potatoes and fresh from the garden corn on the cob cooked in the coals. Those are sweet family memories.
making great memories that your kids will always remember. Thanks for sharing!
Rhubarb looks incredible!! Have you ever tried using refrigerated ready pantry sheets to make your campfire pies? They may work well in your mini pie makers.. Such a nice family cabin & vacation together!! 🥰
Looks like another amazing trip. At least you didn’t get rain so that’s a win.
Tide pool exploration is definitely a great life experience and memory. This looks incredibly relaxing and fun.
The views from the cabin are always so beautiful.....no matter the weather.
I loved that you showed all your meal ideas. Now I want to try banana boats on our next camping trip! Yum!! Another beautiful adventure that you took us along for. I love it! Thank you 💕
Love the banana boats! Fascinated by eagle snatching up that food😍
I like how you make something out of leftover foods
Enjoy your cabin adventures so much. Watching the kids creating memories away from screens is wonderful to see. 🙂
We are off on a week long camping trip here in Manitoba. One of our campfire "core memory" foods is bannock on a stick. We wrap bannock dough around a cleaned stick and bake it over the fire. Served with butter and jam or sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. We also use bannock dough in our pie irons with apples and cinnamon in the middle. So good! We also love quesadillas for a camping dinner!
What fun! It's so beautiful there. Thank you for sharing these adventures!
Hi Lauren I feel like I can offer a banana boat tip to prevent the marshmallows sticking. Instead of cutting through the skin into the banana, peel one side of the banana, but leave it attached then cut the banana and stuff it and then cover the marshmallows with the peel before you roast them. The marshmallows don’t stick this way! It looks like yak had a blast this trip
That is a great tip! Thank you so much!!
Hi Lauren! My kiddos and I love your videos so much. They also loved “exploring” with you especially finding the octopus 🐙 and crabs 🦀. The Alaskan cruise videos were great too! Can’t wait to visit with my family ❤
May you and your family continue to be blessed 🙏🏾❤️
We call campfire pies, bush pies. They are one of my camping favorites. I also make savoury ones like pizza ones for lunches. The best.
When you said that octopus was a small one I just about died!!
I always enjoy your videos, especially the ones in which you take us along to the cabin and on other adventures. Your kids are learning so much by doing. Can't wait till the next trip to Seldovia. (p.s. I could spend the entire day just watching the bald eagles swoop in for salmon leftovers.)
It's crazy how red that salman is !! My dream is to go spend a summer in Alaska .. This this my favorite video you have made so far... I just started watching you last night
WOW. I loved watching this. Amazing the food you can make in a burner, grill, and small over along with over the fire. Enjoyed watching all your adventures. Hoping they caught ALOT of salmon to start filling your freezer for the year to come. My best part was watching the eagles 🦅 come get the remnants of the salmon ❤
Looks like you had a great time that's wonderful God bless and take care
Love watching all of your videos!
You and Mark are the most amazing parents. All of your children are going to make great adults.
Great get away and enjoying so many things that you get to do at the cabin. So brave of Everett to do the splunge.
I am always so amazed how brave the boys are to pick up any sea creatures . My girls will never be brave enough to do that. Such a fun video 😊
I had such a wonderful time with you all at the cabin! Thanks!
A great memory for me was going to my grandparents lake house in Georgia and we would make s’mores. My fav.
Wtg on the fishing. And those pies bring back memories. Yum.
Great video !! I always pull and twist my rhubarb because it grows back faster.
Great tip! I will do that from now on.
We call those campfire pies JAFFELS here in South Africa! They are awesome. We put curried mince into them usually.
Whenever we went to my grandma's house she would make a tater tot casserole. That always reminds me of her.
Your cabin videos are some of my favorites! Salmon looked delicious on that grill!
My mom would make strawberry and rhubarb pies and also stew up the rhubarb and strawberries so good
Thanks for sharing an amazing family time cabin trip. July and still coats and knit hats? Just not used to seeing that.
Thank you for another great video. So many loving memories❤
Another wonderful week at the cabin! Looks like everyone had a marvelous time!

Love your cabin vlogs!!They are so relaxing and beautiful!!btw the banana boats looked sooo delicious!i will definitely try them!! Kisses from Greece ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Good Afternoon Hamm Family ❤️
It's a sunny 86°F here today. A hot, yet beautiful change from the thunderstorms we've been having. My brother-in-love's (Jon) cabin, about a mile away, lost power for a couple hours when lightening hit the transformer just before our electric compnies transformers start: two different providers ⚡
I'll trade your cold, windy days for our "need to find Noah's blueprints" deluges and "hotter than the Sahara" temperatures of late. I'm either going to drown or melt 🫠
Kite flying is so much fun. Haven't done it in years. I had a dragon, an octopus, a box and the standard diamond kites. My Mark would like the plane kite 🪁
Yummy salmon. I made Blackened Cod last night. What I wouldn't do for some fresh fish... it hits different. I learned something knew. Never knew young King Salmon were referred to as a Jack. I always pay close attention when Mark dresses a fish. I'm used to mostly freshwater fish, like Largemouth Bass, but it's been awhile. Used to fish with my Dad on the lake. I could bait, catch, dress and cook what I caught. Mark is refreshing my memory. That is a beautiful filet of salmon, btw. Do you ever eat the head and/or cheeks? It looked like the cheeks had been removed. I love that y'all feed the carcasses to the Eagles. Eagle-cam rocks 🦅
New fear unlocked... dive-bombing kites. Watch out Dad 😯
The sun peeking through the clouds makes everything look serene 🌥️
Mmmm... sausages... perfect for Bangers and Mash 😋
Love the flowers 🪻
Awesome to see the stocking of salmon young into the waterways. I've seen bass stocking 🐟
Pretty sea glass. I need to get me some to craft with 🖼️
I haven't seen too many sea otters in the wild, but they are cute. We had some very mischievous river/lake otters that hung out in the lake. One scared the bejesus out of me and my sister. He brushed up against us under the water and we both thought we where going to be an alligator's lunch before he pop his playful head up out of the water. Silly little bugger hung around for a good 15 minutes or so before swimming off 🦦
Love seeing the boys fishing with their Dad, one on one and as a group. Makes me remember those special times with my Dad. Plus, the lessons learned: "Feed a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime" - women too. So happy you got the boys on camera. Good memories 🎣
Okay, what did you pour over the salmon?? Ask Grandma. I need to know 🧐
I'm glad Everett enjoyed his mussels 🦪
I have to admit, I've never purposely eaten rhubarb. I ate a Strawberry pie once that I later found out had rhubarb in it, but all tasted was strawberry. Rhubarb looks like celery. Is it bitter before being cooked with sugar? The cobbler and griddle pies look delicious. I'll have to try both and get some griddle irons. Some of my favorite memories around food are: Sunday breakfast feasts at my Memaw's (Mom's Mom) and eating watermelon and homemade ice cream at Grandma's (Dad's Mom), both while visiting in Georgia; Sunday pot roast at home with my folks and sisters growing up; cast iron chili, s'mores and popcorn made in and around the campfire during our annual fall reunions. Great memories 🥰
10pm and daylight... my brain is confused 😯
No salmon shall be wasted. I'm surprised the speargun doesn't do more damage 🐠
What a beautiful day for an adventure: boating, exploring the beach and the water. Do y'all ever eat the seaweed/vegetation? What type? How? My friends and I used to hunt for sand dollars (shark teeth and shells) at St Augustine and Fernandina Beaches and Talbot Island in Florida. So much fun. We released the live ones, but the bleached white ones were collected, most 3 to 4 inches in diameter. There was a man who made/sold art, jewlery, trinkets and such who would sometimes buy what we collected. Good memories and fun 🐚
Rain or shine, wonderful memories are made. Exploring the tide pool is so much fun to do as a family. Lots of cool finds and critters 🐙
Great artwork guys. Love the kitty. Is that Miss Luna or Miss Rose 😺
What a beautiful... sunset, sunrise... I don't know, but the sun finds Alaska so beautiful that saying goodbye is not an option 😶🌫️
Thanks for sharing your meals. I haven't made biscuit donuts since Bry was small. I'll have to now. That teriyaki salmon is making my mouth water 🤤
All I heard when Mark suggested Everett put on shoes was: "if you're not barefoot, then you're overdressed" 👣
What game was Grandma playing? Not pictionary... before that 🃏
Banana boats are great: peanut butter and jam, s'mores-esque, Reese's, with a honey drizzle, etc. Mmmm 🍌
I love that you think of work, and with that, your followers, while enjoying family time, but I love it even more when your main focus is family time. We can wait 🤗
Question: what ever happened to the boat? I remember y'all were having issues with it last time. I don't remember seeing it this time 🛥️
Thank you for another great video, and congratulations on hitting 40K. Awesome 👏
Take care. Yah's Blessings ❤️
That salmon was amazing! Love the views at the cabin. ✌🏻💜
My son and I watched and enjoyed the salmon and banana boats that I will make.We have salmon too.We live in Fawnskin Ca top of the mountains.
I love your videos, the only reason I watch her videos is the scenery of Alaska and of course, Luna.
hello folks ,your cabin looks so fun . just something we did was use just a cup of lime down the outhouse once a day when it's busy also wood ashes but they dont work as well . no more smell ! google more info maybe ,i don't know the science .
I could live there all the time. What a beautiful spot and what interesting things you all did. I hope the octopus was tasty. Thanks for sharing your time and family with us.❤😊
I love the adventures you and the boys get into every trip !! It is so wholesome to watch your videos, especially for a true city kid ; ) 😂
Wow!!! Thank you so very much for letting us “ explore” with you!!! It never got old seeing those beautiful eagles scooping up the salmon!!!
Question: anyone eat the salmon as sushi???
I loved all of this. Yes, banana boats are very delicious!!! Low tide was completely amazing! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The pies look great 😃
So much fun. I'd love to spend a week there with you all. The things I could learn. To bad mother nature didnt give you a bit warmer temps. 😊
where I live in Scotland it is the same at 10pm at night. It certainly makes sleeping challenge
I loved, loved this video! Could you pls tell us what you put in your stir fry veggies that was in the jar that you added. I would like to try making this. I really enjoyed watching Mark fillet the salmon, it looked so easy when watching him. Ive tried a couple of times and I ended up with quarter-sized pieces of fish, from a good sized lake perch. Hahaha. At least I tried! It would be nice if he showed a tutorial on filleting fish. I sure would watch it. Thank you for this enjoyable time with your family!
It was yoshidas sauce in the jar.
We had those campfire pie things as a kid. Fruit and sloppy Joe ones
Hi Lauren and Alaska Boys! It’s nice seeing how big all the boys have gotten! Hugs all the way from Orlando ❤
Thx for bringing us along😊
My pleasure 😊
This was great! I really enjoyed every second of it! The salmon and all the food was awesome! The discovery bucket was a great idea. Amazing memories!!!!!! I love the teamwork!!
We make our "hobo pies" like pizza, using pizza sauce, pepperoni, and mozzarella cheese! They are delicious!
I learned how to make banana boats in Girl Scouts
I live in North Carolina on July 8 it was 90 degrees enjoy cool weather
Good evening! It's so great seeing you and your family having such fun and enjoying your time at the cabin. Salmon looks delicious. Love salmon and other fish. Octopus is also great as kelequen or cooked in coconut milk with some island vegetables and potatoes. Thanks for sharing your adventures at the cabin. Enjoyed it. Hafa adai and love from the island of 🌴❤🌴
We are going to try those Banana boats they look Fun.. Thanks for sharing those.
I love your cabin times!
QUE BIEN OS COMPLEMENTAIS TÚ Y TU MARIDO...ME ENCANTA❤😊
So many wonderful things in this video, salmon fishing, looking for sea glass, the discovery bucket and on and on. Loved watching the eagles grab up his dinner.
Always loved fishing in my grandpa's pond, bringing back the catch for the adults to clean and having a huge fish fry with hush puppies and other great things grandma cooked up.
I, too, wish I could have been on the quite beach with no one around but the kids for some quite time and reflection. It does wonders for the body and soul.
Wonderful family time without tv, cell phones or video games. Back to the fun of conversation board games.
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful family time. I so enjoyed your fun
Wow I love salmon I can only imagine how good these taste
Such a great trip! Lots of lovely family fun together and whilst the weather wasn’t as warm and sunny as you’d hoped, still a lovely time away.😊
Jo Hubbard..SW VA.. As I watched this episode, I realized just how much I enjoy your videos….. the pure enjoyment that your family has together and love you have. I love your cabin videos…. And the sea glass finds..lol. Thank you for sharing. By the way I make strawberry and rhubarb cobbler (freezing the strawberries and rhubarb so I can make it in the winter also) I’m sure your raspberries would work as well. I use a cup of self rising flour, 3 tablespoons solid shortening (the more you use the more crumbly it is) a tablespoon of white sugar and enough milk to make thicker biscuit consistency. Use 2 teaspoons or a small cookie scoop to put the batter on top of the fruit. Bake 350 degrees until a beautiful brown. Delicious.
Thank you so much for the recipe! Glad you enjoyed coming along with us.
@@ThisAlaskaLife You are so welcome ..
My memory food is Graham cracker cookies dipped in chocolate. My grandmother always had them in a lovely tin canister on the counter in the kitchen....they were ALWAYS there. They're not expensive cookies, but when I see them in the supermarket I always think of my late grandmother 😊 Your cabin area is absolutely beautiful!! Your boys will definitely have wonderful memories when they're older 💖🙏🏻💖🙏🏻
I love visiting the family cabin 😊
Just pull the stalks, helps for regrowth
We used to make pizza pockets then pies with those. Loren lok up how to pick rhubarb please
Pizza pockets sound yum! I have learned today to twist instead of cut, thanks
I just love watching y’all having so much fun at the cabin !! I like when you just walk around getting sea treasures!! Y’all sure do eat well!! Banana boats will be your new treat, along with the campfire pies!! Great memories!! 😀😀😀😀😀😀❤️❤️
Your cabin trips remind me so much of family trips to the north shore of Lake Superior as a kid! No salmon but plenty of lake trout, herring, and whitefish. And wild rice everything! And berry pies especially blueberry and raspberry. I remember woods coated in lupine and collecting rocks on the beach. So many core memories! I know your kids will look back on this fondly.
So much fun
Wh do I always feel so sad every time you guys leave the cabin
Okay I have a husband and four boys…..one of which wants to be a conservation officer and just finished college.
I need to make a reservation for 5 for next summer. Your husband can be the fishing guide and I will come help cook and clean.
Sincerely Amy from SW Minnesota. 😊
I’ll bring my rhubarb jam recipes and will bring the rhubarb…lots of it!
You're supposed to twist and pull it out. If you cut it the plant will rot and it will die off.
Thanks for the tip, we have always cut it and never had a problem. Good to know.
I lived in Seward 3 years and Kenai for a year. We went traveling but car
