      Do you know if there is a veterinarian there? a hospital?

    • @StrawberryRaine
      @StrawberryRaine 9 дней назад

      @@LucianaVIP1 Cecilia has mentioned that there are two vets, and one hospital that also functions as a general doctor's office. Only basic procedures and check ups are done there, anything specialized or life threatening is required to be treated on the mainland (Norway). There isn't even a maternity ward since giving birth on the island is illegal.
      Not sure how much the vets are able to cover, the only mention that I've seen her talk about in her videos is that she once took Grim to get dental work done which did require anesthesia. With that though, there were lots of rescheduling and delays that lasted weeks since all the medicine has to be shipped in and sometimes specially ordered, and sometimes the boats/planes experience delays.

      What people often forget is that in the Nordic countries (excluding Norway) middle class income is around 4k usd a month (before taxes, after taxes below 3k) so 1200 to 1400 usd a month on food is a considerable amount. Even with two middle class incomes. Now we don’t know what Cecilia makes so but up to 1400 a month is a lot for just 2 people. Imagine what bigger families have to spend.

    It's amazing to have this supermarket basically a stone's throw from the North Pole. I used to live north of the Arctic Circle - about twice as far from the North Pole as Svalbard. That extra 1300 km really puts things in perspective - Svalbard is truly at the doorstep of the Pole. And the scenery - especially the northern lights - are simply magnificent.

    Thank you for sharing your daily life with us. I live in the total "polar" opposite climate. I live in southeastern Georgia, USA. We are a subtropical climate with 10 months of summer. Today we had a 116 degree Fahrenheit heat index due to the high humidity here. The actual temp was 97. Earlier this week, we had a 116 degree heat index on a 92 actual temp day. Your toes sweat the minute you step outside in sandals. In closed shoes, your feet area already sweating. Winter comes sometimes for a few days in December with extreme temps in the 20-freezing temp of 32. Winter is more a January/February thing, but even then it can be 50-70 degrees with 90s by April. I just stumbled onto your page. Absolutely fascinating and such a gorgeous place!! I’m born and raised in upstate NY, about an hour and a half north of NYC. I literally almost swallowed my tongue at your grocery prices. You made me feel so much better… thank you for that!😂😂 My weekly budget is $120.00. That’s had to remain the same even through our country’s inflation nightmare. Prices have pretty much doubled in the last several months. For examples… milk was $3 a gallon now it’s just under $6. Eggs were about $2 a dozen now $5 & up. Fuel prices have more than doubled which is one of our biggest issues. Thank the lord we use our wood stove to heat our entire home. I actually love it and wouldn’t ever want to change it. There’s something about that kind of heat. So comforting! We do have a furnace (we use it in spring and late fall when we can’t use our wood stove because it’s just too warm) but… kerosene is over $9.00 a gallon now (from roughly $3). My husband cuts and splits all our firewood every year. We have about 25 cord cut and split right now and have 2 loads of logs (that need to sit so it can be used next year) that will also be in the neighborhood of 25 cord when he’s done cutting and splitting. The wood was $600 a load and has since gone up to $750. My in-laws are next door to us and that wood heats both houses from late fall to spring. I’m binging your channel now…
