And she also said that she has carried so much hate. The context from espacially one interview is filled with hate and blame. Never asked herself if it could be that she was less skillfull.
the problem is that the game is not about that, its about alan's story and saga's search for him, and not about actress experience or black and white agenda. When hear this words in the game you just completely fall out of story and atmosphere.
This portrayal of Saga Anderson as a black woman in Alan Wake 2 really highlights the forced nature and tokenism behind DEI. 'Saga' is literally a Norse name, and as far as appearances go, she was initially cast as such. That was the original intent behind the character. I have no issues with a black female lead in a video game like this; however, they should have entirely reimagined the character. Unfortunately, this race swap's laziness is evident for all to see. There was no tact or effort put into it at all.

Sam Lake, I believe, has wanted to make an Alan Wake sequel for years but when Microsoft owned the Alan Wake IP they would not green light a sequel to be made because the first game was not financially successful enough for Microsoft. Remedy, around 2019, acquired the rights to the Alan Wake IP and then they released the Remaster version of the first game as a multiplatform release. I think that these "Sweet Baby" changes were the compromise that Remedy felt had to be made in order for the game to get its ESG financial funding and actually be made (for better or worse). Kinda sounds like Remedy made a deal with the 'Dark Presence' for the sequel to finally see the 'light' of day.

The game seemed fine but painfully slow paced, so just not for me at first. The "another white asshole" part made it irredeemable to me though. It's said so casually out of nowhere it's disgusting. The potential shallow raceswapping certainely doesn't help.

Yeah i almost baught it but did a bit of research and read about what theyd dine with the whole saga thing and "white assholes" and decided against it. My mate who did buy it said he wished he hadnt and cant bring himself to play any more of it.
Even though it's called Alan Wake 2 saga gets more screen time then him along with getting demoted from being the hero of his own story to now Saga is the hero save the day. Thought Sam Lake was a decent writer why would he need a outside source telling him how to write a story when he being doing fine all these years.

They keep injecting so much bs they have to rewrite the story as originally planned and don't have the time, energy, or the commitment to ensure a well written cohesive story so a lot of the dialogue just sounds like a note on a storyboard that never got the proper attention it deserves.
Ive been inspired by Sweet Baby inc. I want to start a consulting company that teaches devs how to actually analyze data so their "balance" patches aren't just nerf your favorite thing and use the flavor of the month meta.
And how would this drive up their revenues measurably? How many people will you need to employ to 'live beta test' all the multiplayer games of the moment, collate the data (initially without access to APIs let alone the game code itself).. and then pass this info back to the devs? If you're trying to get the data analyzed BEFORE the patch.. you'd basically need to already be working alongside the software engineers. Basically, shitty balance patches are a direct result of the budgets of the studio. If they could afford to do more testing already, they would. But look, I'd love to see you find a way to market this 'outsourced testing team' idea. I really do think the industry is in need of some more reputable companies!

A little info about how Saga being black kinda make sense... Saga Anderson is a European sounding name and probably comes from her mother Freya's side who was white and the Daughter of Tor, one of the OG characters who are "Seers" in the overarching plot. Saga's Father is Mr. Door who you encounter in Live action parts of the game so that makes Saga Mixed by defination. Mr. Door even threatens Alan towards the end because he involved Saga into his story. That "white man" line is the "Other Saga" which was the manifestations of her dark thoughts cranked up to 11 and that Other Saga says some pretty stupid stuff... Like I killed my Daughter, killed my partner Casey etc and its all presented as the talkings of a Lunatic (but her "white man" line also took me by surprise but kinda makes scene as its the ramblings of a Lunatic). She is a single mother in only the story "Return" that Alan Wake wrote as Scratch but in reality she is happily married with David. I get SBI is a scourge on the industry but this game is alright in my books when compared to other abominations from AAA studios and we should give Sam Lake a break.
Alan Wake 2 sold 1.4 million without a physical and Steam release. Given those two added together around 70% of sales then yeah, it did very well. It was a massive success. You might not understand how things work relative to each other, but Sam Lake had an interview yesterday where he said the sales far exceeded their expectations The original Alan Wake sold $325k it's first month. Alan Wake 2 sold 1.4 million on less platforms.

Yes, I was shocked in the game when I heard Saga Anderson told about her Norwegian ancestry. It could very well be explained that she is mixed race. But the character doesn't look like mixed race. The Saga in the game looks purely African. If you want a black character make a black back story. This looks like a patched-up job.

It's real life politics that is actually IGNORED in the game's universe. No one ever says "Uhh... Saga... didn't you used to be... white?". No, the change is completely ignored. The game has be to completely open to the details of the character's identity. Sometimes it's a normal aspect of a game. In Dark Souls you can make your character male or female, so dialogue in cutscenes is written with character agnosticism. No boss says "Ah, he is here at last", in case you chose to play as a woman. But because of woke scolds, this agnosticism must be applied in ham fisted ways across media. Take Rings of Power. There is now a fucking Puerto Rican elf in Middle Earth. We're expected to believe that elves are so high minded that elves of different skin tone wouldn't have resulted in any social consequences for their kind, even though we know they had what we might consider discriminatory attitudes towards other races and even half elves. Now Dwarves, Elves, Hobbits and Men of Middle Earth are ludicrously diverse but it means nothing in that world and no one even seems to notice it or mention it lol.

There is definitely some interference in Alan Wake 2, especially with the character Saga, who is overly 'woke.' She almost never makes mistakes, unlike Alan, who keeps making mistakes all the time. Moreover, he’s been stuck in there for 13 years, while Saga probably takes less than 13 minutes. Changing just the outer appearance does not promote 'woke' values at all. It only makes people hate it because it worsens the storyline and doesn't support the game itself. But a character like Mr. Door is definitely one that Remedy came up with. He fits seamlessly into the storyline, and his personality is intriguing and mysterious right from the start.

Alan Wake 2 is awesome. Saga being mixed makes sense and definitely helps with the mystery of the story. There are so many white cool characters I don’t understand what the issue is.
You have not played the game or really done your research about the production process, and it shows. There are several mistakes and important omissions in what you are saying here. For one thing, Saga is not a single mother, in the story she calls her husband David, Logan's father, several times. And David is also who she is trying to call at the end of the game. Another thing is that there *is* an obvious story reason why Saga has a mixed race background - her father is black, and he also appears in an important role in the game. Making Malla Malmivaara's role in the Quantum Break easter egg video into a big thing is just silly. She was cast only for the video, there was no concrete plan for her to act in the eventual game itself. This is because in 2015 when that video was made, Remedy didn't even know that they will get to make AW2. When they got the resources for finally making the game several years later, the plans for the game had changed several times. At that point, they would have cast a native English speaker in the role of Saga Anderson, not Malmivaara, even if it was still a white character. In Quantum Break and after it, Remedy have no longer cast separate voice and mocap actors for new characters, but only for established, iconic ones (like Alan Wake himself). Saga Anderson was not an established, iconic character prior to 2023, the 2015 version being just a rough concept sketch of a potential future character. Malla Malmivaara has never played a major English language role during her career, so she would have been a poor choice for an actress portraying a native English-speaking FBI agent. While you are saying that it is not known when or how long Sweet Baby Inc worked with Remedy on the game, it is in fact known because the company said in a LinkedIn post in 2023 that they worked for a "few months" with Remedy in 2022. Given that the game's production process was quite far along by that stage, it is very likely they only got involved in the process after the actors for the main characters had already been cast. There would be a lot more to say but I don't think it would really be worth it to use any more of my time picking the video apart. I've already shown that it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of research and verifiable facts. But you have your own opinions and views, so I guess that is OK. You have probably given your intended audience exactly what they want.
We need to stop this denial. Even if we say SBI had nothing to do with it, all it means that they are woke without outside contractors, which is pretty believable.

The fact that this game came out as bad as it did is truly heartbreaking. I've been a lifelong fan of Remedy since Max Payne 1, and was SO excited when Alan Wake 2 was finally announced.. I'm probably never going to play it now and that really bums me out.
The game is great, and despite what people who haven't played it or finished it say, it isn't woke. It's not political, it ties in very well with control. The acting, especially in Alan's segments are amazing. And the tone of the game is top notch. It's a Remedy take on Survival Horror and it's great. One of the best of last year. It mainly got a lot of crap for being digital only, and Epic exclusive, which happened because Epic literally funded it.

If you aren't aware of things, you won't notice them, but it would be like if everyone had wh*ite cloaks on and you didn't know about the triple K squad, just because you can't recognize it doesn't mean it isn't there. I played the game, from the beginning it looked and felt great until I got to the combat, which just feels wonky and it has no direction. Like the first boss battle, I wasn't sure if I was doing damage the whole time. Once I got to Alans section, I felt a bit lost wandering the streets and just wasn't enjoying it any more, so I dropped it. If I didn't feel misdirected from the get go, not playing Alan, and didn't quickly realize why they chose the MC, and if I could have figured out what to do earlier on (first scene in the morgue I wasn't sure where I was supposed to run to), maybe I would have enjoyed it more.

Shame you missed out on the aAlan stuff, because holy crap that section was flat out amazing. Though I suppose I played switching between the two at different points. And trust me, I know forced woke when I see it, and honestly at this point people are so hyper sensitive they have become a mirror of the lefties who see racism everywhere. As for misdirection, alleged racebending aside, the dual protagonist narrative works, as Alan is trapped in the dark place, having someone working the case in the real world makes sense. It also gives an outside perspective for newcomers as part 1 was 13 years prior, and American Wasteland didn't move the story needle.

But I hear what you're saying, people are oversensitive, but this is the natural flow of things after being burned so many times. I'll be playing a game and then something cartoonish and out of place happens that throws you out of the game, that reminds you that the people who made the game hate you. Imagine if while playing a game, the character stopped and looked at the screen and whispered the n word. Sure, it wouldn't change the game hardly at all, but it's weird, and I'm glad people are finally pushing back, even if only a little. I'll probably watch someone do a Let's Play at some point, that way I can skip to the better parts. I ended up doing that with that last kojima game, saved myself many hours of walking.

I wonder if people would have had as much of an issue if it was just a regular recasting of that actress with a white actress. Fact is we don't know if the change to make her Door's daughter was before or after they decided to cast the actress, and considering the actress is biracial, then it seems like it was done after. There was at best, a general idea of what Alan Wake 2 was going to be when that concept trailer was made. It wasn't in production, and wouldn't be for years. It was basically a fun shout out for fans of Alan Wake, but as Sam Lake even said at the time, the game was not in active development, and would not be for years. Characters and ideas change from early concepts to actual production. It happens all the time, and iit's different than say what it would be if Saga was a character who existed in AW1 and then was changed in the sequel, ala Deadshot in Suicide Squad.

Loved Alan Wake 2, and was looking for more content. But it was a mistake clicking on this racist video. Plus, some of the comments here are vile. So i quickly turned it off, and turned off any recommendations from this channel.

I saw the warning signs with the Remedy DLC to the Control game. I'm not sure if that was when they started to work with these companies for the DEI aganda but the Control DLC was just dripping with the "girl boss" schtick. Such a pity because the base game was excellent and displayed very little that could be classified as "woke". From what i saw of AW2 the trend continued. Saga; another bland, faultless, insipid protagonist that was about as interesting a character as a cardboard sandwich.
It's a shame the Sweet Baby Inc affair happened after Alan Wake 2 was released. Remedy need to learn that they shouldn't use Sweet Baby but may feel like they can get away with it .
Saga being changed to a black woman doesn't bother me, it makes sense considering that a certain character is her father. Saga's first appearance was as an easteregg in Quantum Break, a game in which her possible father was also introduced. It's been so many years since this game was released that I think it's plausible that the character didn't have a defined origin at that time and they used a random Finnish actress to play her. SBI's influence on this game is probably in the dialogue, when Saga calls Alan a white asshole. The final part in Saga's mind palace and the lunch boxes reaffirming her all the time are fucking cringe and have the rotten smell of SBI's work. And saga is not single. She is married and her husband is taking care of her daughter
1/3rd of the messages in the boxes are just positive words of affirmation 1/3rd are weird You're a Hero!/Alan is great! 1/3rd are some female romance zombie survival story... Was this some sort of joke on Casey? But then you learn they were planted by Rose, and it all makes sense (as much as Alan Wake 2 can make sense.)
Yea if Door/Hatch is her Dad as it's heavily implied then the race swap does make some sense, but the cringe dialogue, especially at the end, that's 100% "Strong Wahmen OF COLOR" bullshit. Her 'heros journey' is just recognizing how awesome she is. But the part that really grinded my gears, even more than the 'white asshole' comment, was how she gave 'permission' to Alan to be a 'hero too' at the end. I don't like whitewashing or any kind of racewashing that does it for diversity sake but this was definitely not the case with Alan Wake 2 even with the consultation. It didn't feel as in your face because her race wasn't even part of the core focus of the story asisde from her connection to Odin and Tor. Saga is biracial, maybe if her skin color reflected more of her white side, maybe people wouldn't be so irritated. Either way, races mix, creators can change the race of a character in development if they want. Saga's heritage is very plausible, get over it. Every single word from Saga Anderson in this video is from Kim belairs own life experience . She said that she been held back by white men at Ubisoft. She talked about them in a VERY negative way. This portrayal of Saga Anderson as a black woman in Alan Wake 2 really highlights the forced nature and tokenism behind DEI. 'Saga' is literally a Norse name, and as far as appearances go, she was initially cast as such. That was the original intent behind the character. I have no issues with a black female lead in a video game like this; however, they should have entirely reimagined the character. Unfortunately, this race swap's laziness is evident for all to see. There was no tact or effort put into it at all.

Sam Lake, I believe, has wanted to make an Alan Wake sequel for years but when Microsoft owned the Alan Wake IP they would not green light a sequel to be made because the first game was not financially successful enough for Microsoft. Remedy, around 2019, acquired the rights to the Alan Wake IP and then they released the Remaster version of the first game as a multiplatform release. I think that these "Sweet Baby" changes were the compromise that Remedy felt had to be made in order for the game to get its ESG financial funding and actually be made (for better or worse). Kinda sounds like Remedy made a deal with the 'Dark Presence' for the sequel to finally see the 'light' of day.

Ive been inspired by Sweet Baby inc. I want to start a consulting company that teaches devs how to actually analyze data so their "balance" patches aren't just nerf your favorite thing and use the flavor of the month meta.
And how would this drive up their revenues measurably? How many people will you need to employ to 'live beta test' all the multiplayer games of the moment, collate the data (initially without access to APIs let alone the game code itself).. and then pass this info back to the devs? If you're trying to get the data analyzed BEFORE the patch.. you'd basically need to already be working alongside the software engineers.
Basically, shitty balance patches are a direct result of the budgets of the studio. If they could afford to do more testing already, they would. But look, I'd love to see you find a way to market this 'outsourced testing team' idea. I really do think the industry is in need of some more reputable companies!

A little info about how Saga being black kinda make sense... Saga Anderson is a European sounding name and probably comes from her mother Freya's side who was white and the Daughter of Tor, one of the OG characters who are "Seers" in the overarching plot. Saga's Father is Mr. Door who you encounter in Live action parts of the game so that makes Saga Mixed by defination. Mr. Door even threatens Alan towards the end because he involved Saga into his story.
That "white man" line is the "Other Saga" which was the manifestations of her dark thoughts cranked up to 11 and that Other Saga says some pretty stupid stuff... Like I killed my Daughter, killed my partner Casey etc and its all presented as the talkings of a Lunatic (but her "white man" line also took me by surprise but kinda makes scene as its the ramblings of a Lunatic).
She is a single mother in only the story "Return" that Alan Wake wrote as Scratch but in reality she is happily married with David.
I get SBI is a scourge on the industry but this game is alright in my books when compared to other abominations from AAA studios and we should give Sam Lake a break.

It's real life politics that is actually IGNORED in the game's universe. No one ever says "Uhh... Saga... didn't you used to be... white?". No, the change is completely ignored. It's meant to provoke controversy and woke nonsense irl. That's the difference. This has actually been called 'character agnosticism'. The game has be to completely open to the details of the character's identity. Sometimes it's a normal aspect of a game. In Dark Souls you can make your character male or female, so dialogue in cutscenes is written with character agnosticism. No boss says "Ah, he is here at last", in case you chose to play as a woman. But because of woke scolds, this agnosticism must be applied in ham fisted ways across media. Take Rings of Power. There is now a fucking Puerto Rican elf in Middle Earth. We're expected to believe that elves are so high minded that elves of different skin tone wouldn't have resulted in any social consequences for their kind, even though we know they had what we might consider discriminatory attitudes towards other races and even half elves. Now Dwarves, Elves, Hobbits and Men of Middle Earth are ludicrously diverse but it means nothing in that world and no one even seems to notice it or mention it lol.

There is definitely some interference in Alan Wake 2, especially with the character Saga, who is overly 'woke.' She almost never makes mistakes, unlike Alan, who keeps making mistakes all the time. Moreover, he’s been stuck in there for 13 years, while Saga probably takes less than 13 minutes.
Changing just the outer appearance does not promote 'woke' values at all. It only makes people hate it because it worsens the storyline and doesn't support the game itself.
But a character like Mr. Door is definitely one that Remedy came up with. He fits seamlessly into the storyline, and his personality is intriguing and mysterious right from the start.

I mean I love Alan Wake 2, its an amazing game, even the character Saga is awesome, the voice acting etc. But, this is obviously a Norse inspired enviroment, and I had a very hard time believing that Thor and Odin had an african wife and daughter. Seemed like a ,,Disney move" if you know what I mean.

I was going through the Steam community the other day and there's so much discussion on SBI bs. Even profiles of people calling themselves "Sweet Baby Inc Enjoyer" and having a profile pic of some fat blue haired, angry woman lmfao. Its certainly put me off this game, and I'm only just playing the first one, which I'm really enjoying. 2nd one? Not fussed. Will probably pretend it never existed and there was never a sequel.

You have not played the game or really done your research about the production process, and it shows. There are several mistakes and important omissions in what you are saying here. For one thing, Saga is not a single mother, in the story she calls her husband David, Logan's father, several times. And David is also who she is trying to call at the end of the game. Another thing is that there *is* an obvious story reason why Saga has a mixed race background - her father is black, and he also appears in an important role in the game.
Making Malla Malmivaara's role in the Quantum Break easter egg video into a big thing is just silly. She was cast only for the video, there was no concrete plan for her to act in the eventual game itself. This is because in 2015 when that video was made, Remedy didn't even know that they will get to make AW2. When they got the resources for finally making the game several years later, the plans for the game had changed several times. At that point, they would have cast a native English speaker in the role of Saga Anderson, not Malmivaara, even if it was still a white character. In Quantum Break and after it, Remedy have no longer cast separate voice and mocap actors for new characters, but only for established, iconic ones (like Alan Wake himself). Saga Anderson was not an established, iconic character prior to 2023, the 2015 version being just a rough concept sketch of a potential future character. Malla Malmivaara has never played a major English language role during her career, so she would have been a poor choice for an actress portraying a native English-speaking FBI agent.
While you are saying that it is not known when or how long Sweet Baby Inc worked with Remedy on the game, it is in fact known because the company said in a LinkedIn post in 2023 that they worked for a "few months" with Remedy in 2022. Given that the game's production process was quite far along by that stage, it is very likely they only got involved in the process after the actors for the main characters had already been cast.
There would be a lot more to say but I don't think it would really be worth it to use any more of my time picking the video apart. I've already shown that it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of research and verifiable facts. But you have your own opinions and views, so I guess that is OK. You have probably given your intended audience exactly what they want.
We need to stop this denial. Even if we say SBI had nothing to do with it, all it means that they are woke without outside contractors, which is pretty believable.

The fact that this game came out as bad as it did is truly heartbreaking. I've been a lifelong fan of Remedy since Max Payne 1, and was SO excited when Alan Wake 2 was finally announced.. I'm probably never going to play it now and that really bums me out.
The game is great, and despite what people who haven't played it or finished it say, it isn't woke. It's not political, it ties in very well with control. The acting, especially in Alan's segments are amazing. And the tone of the game is top notch. It's a Remedy take on Survival Horror and it's great. One of the best of last year.
It mainly got a lot of crap for being digital only, and Epic exclusive, which happened because Epic literally funded it.
@@bishopcruzwhile it is subtle, it is woke, kind of like Horizon Zero Dawn. If you aren't aware of things, you won't notice them, but it would be like if everyone had wh*ite cloaks on and you didn't know about the triple K squad, just because you can't recognize it doesn't mean it isn't there.
I played the game, from the beginning it looked and felt great until I got to the combat, which just feels wonky and it has no direction. Like the first boss battle, I wasn't sure if I was doing damage the whole time. Once I got to Alans section, I felt a bit lost wandering the streets and just wasn't enjoying it any more, so I dropped it.
If I didn't feel misdirected from the get go, not playing Alan, and didn't quickly realize why they chose the MC, and if I could have figured out what to do earlier on (first scene in the morgue I wasn't sure where I was supposed to run to), maybe I would have enjoyed it more.
@@Excalibur2 Combat is the weak point, yes. But generally it works well for an old school Survival Horror feel, which is what the game was going for. Shame you missed out on the aAlan stuff, because holy crap that section was flat out amazing. Though I suppose I played switching between the two at different points. And trust me, I know forced woke when I see it, and honestly at this point people are so hyper sensitive they have become a mirror of the lefties who see racism everywhere.
As for misdirection, alleged racebending aside, the dual protagonist narrative works, as Alan is trapped in the dark place, having someone working the case in the real world makes sense. It also gives an outside perspective for newcomers as part 1 was 13 years prior, and American Wasteland didn't move the story needle.

But I hear what you're saying, people are oversensitive, but this is the natural flow of things after being burned so many times. I'll be playing a game and then something cartoonish and out of place happens that throws you out of the game, that reminds you that the people who made the game hate you.
Imagine if while playing a game, the character stopped and looked at the screen and whispered the n word. Sure, it wouldn't change the game hardly at all, but it's weird, and I'm glad people are finally pushing back, even if only a little.
I'll probably watch someone do a Let's Play at some point, that way I can skip to the better parts. I ended up doing that with that last kojima game, saved myself many hours of walking.

Fact is we don't know if the change to make her Door's daughter was before or after they decided to cast the actress, and considering the actress is biracial, then it seems like it was done after. There was at best, a general idea of what Alan Wake 2 was going to be when that concept trailer was made. It wasn't in production, and wouldn't be for years. It was basically a fun shout out for fans of Alan Wake, but as Sam Lake even said at the time, the game was not in active development, and would not be for years.
Characters and ideas change from early concepts to actual production. It happens all the time, and iit's different than say what it would be if Saga was a character who existed in AW1 and then was changed in the sequel, ala Deadshot in Suicide Squad.

I saw the warning signs with the Remedy DLC to the Control game. I'm not sure if that was when they started to work with these companies for the DEI aganda but the Control DLC was just dripping with the "girl boss" schtick. Such a pity because the base game was excellent and displayed very little that could be classified as "woke". From what i saw of AW2 the trend continued. Saga; another bland, faultless, insipid protagonist that was about as interesting a character as a cardboard sandwich.

The Alan Wake portions of the game within AW2 were excellent. Every time you are forced to play as Saga it felt like a chore.
Saga being changed to a black woman doesn't bother me, it makes sense considering that a certain character is her father. Saga's first appearance was as an easteregg in Quantum Break, a game in which her possible father was also introduced. It's been so many years since this game was released that I think it's plausible that the character didn't have a defined origin at that time and they used a random Finnish actress to play her. SBI's influence on this game is probably in the dialogue, when Saga calls Alan a white asshole. The final part in Saga's mind palace and the lunch boxes reaffirming her all the time are fucking cringe and have the rotten smell of SBI's work. And saga is not single. She is married and her husband is taking care of her daughter

Yea if Door/Hatch is her Dad as it's heavily implied then the race swap does make some sense, but the cringe dialogue, especially at the end, that's 100% "Strong Wahmen OF COLOR" bullshit. Her 'heros journey' is just recognizing how awesome she is. But the part that really grinded my gears, even more than the 'white asshole' comment, was how she gave 'permission' to Alan to be a 'hero too' at the end. Bitch know your place, this man spent 13 years in actual hell as a sacrifice to save his wife (which they of course have to negate in this too), wtf have you sacrificed? I don't like whitewashing or any kind of racewashing that does it for diversity sake but this was definitely not the case with Alan Wake 2 even with the consultation. It didn't feel as in your face because her race wasn't even part of the core focus of the story asisde from her connection to Odin and Tor. Saga is biracial, maybe if her skin color reflected more of her white side, maybe people wouldn't be so irritated. Either way, races mix, creators can change the race of a character in development if they want. Saga's heritage is very plausible, get over it. If you choose not to play because of that, honestly it says more about you than Sweetbaby Inc.
