I saw them in 1979, opening for the Scorpions and Ted Nugent as the headliner. Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland. General Admission (Free for all) seating, back then. Tickets were under $10. Grind your way through the crowd to front row center stage. I have still have some photos I took (somewhere). I had the lens exposure settings on my Pentax camera on super slow and to my amazement they turned out awesome.
The harmonica intro is one of the greatest of all time. Played by "Shorty" Medlocke. Grandfather of Blackfoot founder Rickey Medlocke. "Shorty" also wrote the lyrics Train, Train.
As previously stated, this was written in 1932. by Ricky Medlocke's grandpa (who raised Ricky) Shorty used to play music for ricky's friend Ronnie Van Zant. Ronnie wrote a song loosely based on Shorty called The Ballad Of Curtis Loew, which is a Skynyrd classic.
One of the best Southern Rock albums ever recorded in my opinion. Great start to finish! I had it on 8track, vinyl, cassette, cd and now digital. Thanks for the reaction!🤘
From their 1979 album " Strikes" this great Bluegrass, Delta blues band out of Flordia, surely knows how to rock. The fabulous harmonica intro is played by " Shorty" Medlocke who wrote the song and is the Grandfather of Ricky Medlocke, the Band's front man. A story of a lover leaving at Midnight on the train to go to Memphis, the harmonics mimics the sound of a steam locomotive blowing its whistle while leaving the station. So brilliant. This is so enjoyable, with excellent quality vocals, great Southern instrumentation, and just a catchy melody that is so special. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Miss Blondie. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Hi Mary Happy Rocktober Thanks for the back story I've read his grandfather played the harmonica too This is on my clean the house upbeat music list Cheers from 🇺🇲 my Canadian Southern Rock Chick friend 🇨🇦💜🎶🥂✌️🇺🇲💜
@missblondie2393 Hello my 🇺🇲 friend. Fantastic choice, you know I was groovin'. I listen to Harri's playlists while I clean or garden. He makes me chuckle. 🤣🤣 Take care my friend, who is so groovy. 👍✌️🎶🇨🇦😍🇺🇲🎶🎷🎷🎸🎸
The lead singer, Rickey Medlocke played drums with Lynyrd Skynyrd back in 1970 or 1971, and left to form Blackfoot. He has been back with Skynyrd for decades on guitar. Like Skynyrd, they are from Jacksonville, Florida.
Oh man I was fortunate enough to see them in a bar in Chatt , my son and I were actually sitting on the edge of the stage. Ricky was no further and 3 ft from me at times when he would walk our way. Killer show. That Strikes album is full of good songs, Highway Song, Left Turn On a Red Light, Wishing Well.
Miss Blondie sure has good taste... I'd just added this one, to my "playlist"; within the past year! I remember it, from my second year of Highschool... Maybe 1973 or 4.
Why thank you Able-Man Fortunately I grew up with the music loving family Unfortunately I was too young to go to concerts It's a Generation X dilemma At least there are live videos on RUclips 🎸✌️🎵🎶
Highway Song and Left turn at a Red Light are two more good ones. Train , Train was written by Shorty Medlock the grandfather of the singer and guitarist Ricky Medlock. Shorty Medlock also did the intro Harmonica part.
@@missblondie2393And a big shout out to the writer of this song, Shorty Medlocke, grandfather of Blackfoot's Rickey Medlocke. He plays that kickin' harmonica as well!
Southern Rock rules Got my 1st speeding ticket in a 67 GTO listening to this on 8 track Herri, you've got to go down the Southern Rock rabbit hole You won't be disappointed
Okay if we're gonna go into relatively unknown Southern rock bands again, check out Knoxville girl by a band called the outlaws. You want the studio version for this one. You love harmony and Southern rock and rolling guitars you're gonna absolutely love this band and love this song.
This song is great. They're with CCR and Marshall Tucker Band, bands in the early 70s. It's so funny when he switches it up. " get out of here woman. Leave!" Lol oops not so early 70s. Lol
Fantastic request Miss Blondie. The harmonica alone was enough to blow my mind and ears away. And the whole package is just amazing. I’ve never heard this before now but this band definitely has my attention now and I will definitely explore further! Fun to watch Harri loving it too. His reaction and review is great. Thanks so much Harri and Miss Blondie 🌺✌️
The intro harmonica was done by Rickey Medlocke's grandfather Shorty Medlocke. Cub Koda did the harmonica during the song. Check out Smoking in the Boys Room for more.
Harry, Blackfoot is Big Time Southern Boogie! You have to checkout "Highway Song" too! If you like the Guys you should listen to Molly Hatchet as well, I suggest "Fall of the Peacemakers" or ''Dreams I`ll Never See"....
Well this is something else :) I suggest you listen to the live version on Highway Song live. I saw them in 1982. One of the most powerful performances I have seen (opening for Iron Maiden en Scorpions in 1982) These guys had energy and also fun on stage! I remember their roadies came on stage with sombreros playing trompets in Too hard to handle! Man what a great time to be metalhead and rocker.
The singer and lead guitarist is the original drummer of Lynyrd Skynyrd when they first started. Ricky Medlock is now no longer in Blackfoot, is now 70 and touring as lead guitarist of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Bob Burns was the original Drummer and founded the band with Ronnie and Gary. Bob left briefly when they were recording demos at Muscle Shoals and Rick helped fill in as a drummer for a while until Bob returned
Hope you try out my favorite southern rock band the OG Molly Hatchet. Everybody seems to react to Flirtin With Disaster but they have a lot of great songs
Excellent choice! 70s Southern Rock band from Jacksonville Florida
Do you remember Ronco Records, Southern Fried Rock?
Check out Molly Hatchets cover Mississippi Queen if ya haven't heard it. Dudes voice is built for it.
Great album. My favorite song by them was Highway Song.
These guys could absolutely blow the doors off the theatre. Great live and studio.

You should hear highway song by Blackfoot

Harri seems to have a besti for Southern Rock. It is such a deep rabbit hole so many great bands
Rickey Medlocke is still touring with Lynyrd Skynyrd at age 73,great guitarist and musician!
Saw him this summer. He was awesome.
Oh man I was fortunate enough to see them in a bar in Chatt , my son and I were actually sitting on the edge of the stage. Ricky was no further and 3 ft from me at times when he would walk our way. Saw Blackfoot supporting The Scorpions at Hammersmith in 1980...never heard of them at the time but they blew The Scorpions offstage
Saw them in early 80s at outdoor concert, great time 😊
Of course their anthem like “Free Bird”, “Green Grass and High Tides” etc. is “ Highway Song”.
Got to see them in Indianapolis at the old Market Square Arena back in 1980..They opened for REO..amazing sound live..
I was only a few feet away and when the bass and kick drum hit ,it felt like I was being punched in the chest.
YES!!! Good pick Ms. Blondie - this is in my favorites rotation. A complete jam!!
🎵✌️🎶
One of the best driving songs ever.
Oh yes this one and Molly Hatchet "Flirting With Diaster"
I could be mistaken but I believe the drummer is Ricky Medlocke, who is now a guitarist and singer in the reincarnation of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
My favorite Southern Rock band. Richie Medlock on vocals and lead guitar. Big late 70s, early 80s. Try Highway song their biggest hit.
Highway Song and Left turn at a Red Light are two more good ones. Train , Train was written by Shorty Medlock the grandfather of the singer and guitarist Ricky Medlock. Shorty Medlock also did the intro Harmonica part.
It's 1983, I'm sitting in my middle car in the high school parking lot... this comes on and I crank it till my windows shake... Great memories...
This is killer, southern rock at its best!
I agree
