4 Exercises for Radial Nerve Pain

  • Today’s video covers four exercises that can help reduce radial nerve pain, which can be felt on the back of the arm, top of the forearm and the backside of the hand. The radial nerve is one of the three major peripheral nerves of the upper extremity and supplies the posterior (backside) aspects of the arm, forearm and hand.
More specifically, the radial nerve provides motor innervation to the triceps and the wrist/finger extensor muscles. The nerve also relays sensory input from most of the back of the hand and fingers (except the pinky and medial half of the ring finger).
Let me know if you have any questions and, as always, see your local musculoskeletal provider if your symptoms are worsening or not improving.

Been to numerous drs, told to do PT for tennis elbow, had cortisone shots, MRIs done and drs ruled out all diagnosable elbow injuries. I was told there's no test for diagnosing some with Radial tunnel syndrome, just ruling out all of the other possible injuries first. I've had a kink in my neck and crippling nerve pain from both elbows down to the tops of hands for 3 years now. Acupuncture has been the only thing that has help me but I will definitely start doing these exercises. I want to fix my problem so I can workout and lift weights again. I feel optimistic after watching this video, so thank you!

Might you do a video about triangular interval syndrome (pinching of radial nerve behind the shoulder, between triangle drawn by the teres major, long head of triceps, and the humerus/lateral head of triceps). I have pain in my shoulder (lifting arm above head hurts) going all the way down my arm, and I fail to see how that could be just "tennis elbow". I suspect some of the suffering commenters below might be having this problem, which the four exercises from this video might improve but not resolve.

Hi, my pain are more on the tricep, neck and some tightness on the pectorals. I did have some flaring across the wrist. Visibly, the radial nerve is protruding more pronounced in the problematic arm on the forearm. It affects protraction of the shoulder at the end range of a press with soreness at the back deep in the delts.
I do not experience any tingling numbness. It's pain and tightness.
I have shoulder issues on both arms but the right is alot more limiting with these specific pain spots that is confusing me. Therapist and orthopaedic have repeatedly tell me its the rotator cuffs but it feels so different on both arms and i have regain ability to do pull ups and bench press. I still continue to train the rotator cuff faithfully but the pain points on the tricep and back of the delts never improve.
When i come across the anatomy of radial nerve, it hits me that the pain spots seem to run along where the radial nerve is.

@@RehabScience thanks. I got your book in the mail today. I'm glad I ordered it because I now understand the three phases and I would be doing these out of step. I'm going to concentrate on the first two neck routines and do phase 1 for a good 3 weeks before I move on. It's hard for me to gauge pain because I'm so used to living in chronic pain that it's just easier for me to go buy a very liberal timeline.
I have several issues that I need to address but I might be going under the knife for hernia surgery. I either have a hernia, or two, or I have nerve damage. I won't know until a couple weeks from now. Therefore, I need to stay away from any resistance training at the moment. I'm a weightlifter so I'm not too incredibly worried about needing to gain strength Right now because the exercises you show are ones that I have done regularly. But eventually I will need to get back on them. The book is great, by the way.

So is Radial Tunnel Syndrome from the neck or elbow?

    • @RehabScience
      @RehabScience  3 месяца назад

Radial tunnel syndrome is related to entrapment of the radial nerve near the elbow. However, some people do have compromise of the nerve roots in the neck that contribute to the radial nerve, so that area may need to be addressed as well.

I have had pain in my elbow for a year now.
I saw my milleniel purple and blue haired doctor and she said it was tennis elbow and it will go away by itself.
Basically she was saying I would go away by myself.
So half a year later I find these videos and within a week my radial nerve pain is 70% gone.
I want to go back and tell my milleniel doctor that she is an idiot but then she will probably say I verbally assaulted her and call the police.
Then she will go on stress leave for anxiety and depression for the next two years.
Jeezuz doctors are dipshit these days.
    I'm pissed off now.
    Lol

Sorry to hear that no one talked to you about your radial nerve. Unfortunately, most medical doctors don’t know much about nerve rehabilitation.

Aarrggh, having a similar problem now. Having much pain around elbow and forearm area, lots of tingling as well as pain and stiff in forefinger and numbness in thumb. Been to 7 different PTs, 1 chiro and 2 massage therapists and still no resolution. Been treated for pinched cervical nerve, tennis elbow etc, but no one thought to explore radial tunnel syndrome 😢. Most Therapists really are very useless nowadays! They should just Google like the rest of us when they don't know the answers! Thank you to the poster of this video. Going to try these exercises. Not sleeping well at all because of the pain😭😭. It's been almost 3 months since it started
