    Great video, we have just had a Tiler completely stuff this up but fortunately we had a plumber check it out before the bathroom reno progressed too far. Although we did have to remove the shower tiles and dig up the shower pit. The tiler did not fit a flange instead he cut a hole into a plastic looking cap and then affixed it to the plastic pipe with tape. We would have had major water issues.

      How about the lip that the square creates? It s at least 2mm high on the edge of the square.

  • @Will-nb8qk

    Recessing those flanges in concrete or cement sheeting would a nightmare. The other query related to this is the floor may be flat or water does not actually fall towards drain especially on a wooden floor. In my mind the flange just needs to be placed on top of the screed and obviously recessed in. Bathroom failures in the past were mainly as a consequence of floor tiles being butted up against wall tiles.

  • @scooter6501
    @scooter6501 5 лет назад

    Puddle flanges should always be recessed to avoid water build up full stop. But with the sheet over the top of it that is nothing short of brilliant!

  • @geoffstein3896
    @geoffstein3896 Год назад

    So do recommend waterproofing under and over the scree? If you use the duddle flange and also a long drain grate, do you recess the flange and aslontge grate and waterproof it all in with the screed?

    Few concerns I have with your method, you did not FC11 the flange to the floor to stop it moving, and the square you put over the flange now creates a square lip around the flange, sort of pointless recessing the flange.

    • @GripsetIndustriesPTYLtd
      @GripsetIndustriesPTYLtd  4 года назад

      Hi Zane, Thanks for your comment, the use of the Butyl Square doesn't require any sealant around the perimeter of the flange, if a sealant was to be applied we would always recommend non solvent based.
      Additionally the Butyl square is .8mm thick, surrounding membrane should be 1.2mm thick which will give you a flush finish into the waste.

    • @-PORK-CHOP-
      @-PORK-CHOP- 3 года назад

      @@GripsetIndustriesPTYLtd 👍for the .8mm thick square, still concerned the flange was not shown to be mechanically fixed to the floor before the rubber was applied, the PF we use have always had 4 recessed screw points, we fix them in place with a thin bead of FC11 between floor and flange then Stainless screw the flange to the floor, this way the flange can never move, I would be concerned with your method shown, once the load from the plumbing is attached to the flange it will easily dislodge the flange as all that's holding it from moving is a bit of glue on the butyl rubber and a thin screed on top.

    Thanks for your very informative videos. I'm also planning on doing both u/o screed shower waterproofing method, but lets say I'm using 100 mm drain pipe with two 100 mm puddle flanges, so in this case, at least the way I see it, the top puddle flange wouldn't actually fit into the one below...., unless I could find a puddle flange that sits flush onto the drain pipe so I could slide the top one through it....?

    • @GripsetIndustriesPTYLtd
      @GripsetIndustriesPTYLtd  6 лет назад

      thank you for the note, you may need to use a coupling to join the puddle flanges. Both the coupling and the flange (over the screed) may need to be cut down to accommodate the height of the screed. For any other questions please feel free to contact us at techenquiries@gripset.com

    I am considering doing a under screed over screed membrane/sandwich style if you will. So it will be cement substrate then gc-1 or 4 then a liquid membrane then screed and then the gc-1 or 4 then another liquid membrane. Basically I want the thing dolphin butt tight and bullet proof.
    My first question is where you join or extend the lower puddle flange to the higher puddle flange on the screed. On the lower puddle flange do you need to use pebbles around the puddle flange weep holes like the yanks do so the weep holes are not blocked or obstructed?
    Second question. With the Butyl square is that bonded under the g/c membrane or over the top of it?

      Probably a bit late for your query, but check this out... ruclips.net/video/xB-pHqDaTJ8/видео.html. ''dolphin butt tight and bulletproof''. It's an Australian product (for the US market), but they don't do an Aust. version for our pipe sizes. I've contacted them and they were kind enough to send me samples to see if I could adapt it to Aust. plumbing sizes - no go. I feel that this should be the standard here.

    Actually on second thoughts it all seems like overkill. If waterproofing was done on surface and on inside of pipe, it is probably just as safe as using a flange but without all the rigmarole.

    puddle flanges are apart of the plumbing system .in Australia if you fit a puddle flange and you are not a licensed plumber you are doing unlicensed works .if a company like gripset is advising contractors to do works outside there scope ,does this make gripset liable for any issues from installation or licensing .
