    I spent 35 years as a biochemist because I was fairly good at it and it paid well. But it took a layoff to make me realize how much I hated it. Now I drive a paratransit bus, helping low income, disabled and elderly people get around town and I love it! I make 70% less, but I can't wait to drive all my "friends" around town every day! They "energize" me!

      Samara V Hamilton Thank you! I have definitely thought about that. I went with Hoarder’s Heart bc I want people to understand what a hoarder truly felt & thought while getting rid of their stuff. That way they could be more compassionate with their loved ones who hoard. And I want people who do hoard, know I understand their struggles and know it’s a mental disability that we can heal. Tbessix220 I’m trying to find a point in that message of yours but I can’t seem to. And being energized by something can be result oriented such as working out and hating it. I HATE working out but I love the results it gives me and I’m ENERGIZED by that end goal. So I have NO PASSION for working out but the end game result of looking great and feeling great drives me and ENERGIZES ME to keep doing it despite hating it. That’s what I take from her message and it doesn’t seem to be wrong to me.

    A year ago I watched the 5 second rule ted talk. I listened, but thought it was goofy and kind of brushed it off and didn't care. I saw it in rehab as a thing we had to do for a group. Fast forward almost exactly a year later, I had just gotten out of rehab- again. Was feeling this sense of utter desperation. I realized that this time I was willing to do anything to truly change, not only my life, but my entire self. I changed my major in school from general studies to public relations and communications. I started going to NA meetings. I got a sponsor. I started reading again. I started journaling. I wake up every day in the morning, not afternoon, and have breakfast and coffee. I am not completely changed. But I am better than I was 2 months ago and I'm so happy with the progress I've made. Anyways, one day when I decided to take a 30 minute walk, shortly after I got home from this second time in rehab, I went to my saved playlist of motivational and goal setting videos, and clicked on the 5 second rule. This time I really listened. I really absorbed the information. I loved that Mel talked about how she didn't want to get out of bed, her anger, and her drinking problem. I identified with that so much. I started using the 5 second rule and want to implement it more. I also realized when I got back that I'd be getting 4000 dollars less in grants for college. Normally that news would freak me out and send me into a depression. Instead, it inspired me to look for a job. Going to school full time and working full time is going to be so difficult, but instead of being full of fear (I'll admit I'm a little scared), I'm energized. I'm allowing myself to let life happen, and to roll with the punches instead of falling down and giving up. Mel really did add something valuable to my life. I also love the book You are a badass by Jen sincero. That was also a huge help for me. I just feel like being open to help and actually listening instead of laughing at things already makes a big difference. What is laughing at everything going to get anyone? Just a laugh. But sitting and listening to valuable advice from someone else who has success? It's priceless. You actually get something out of it. Basically where I'm going with my little rant is that I'm glad I watched mel's video again, and I'm glad I'm open to listening.

    This CD has three separate relaxation/meditation sessions on it ruclips.net/user/postUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq guided by a very pleasant and direct male voice. Unlike so many other products of its type, this CD does not have bad synthesizer music, does not feature a phony or affected style of narration, and does not make any bogus claims to be subliminal or to re-train the brain or any of that balderdash. What you get is 1. a guided meditation for getting into a pleasantly relaxed state of body awareness while taking a stroll (superb for those easing back into a fitness routine slowly after an illness or injury) 2. A nice long breath-awareness relaxation session that if followed diligently can put you into very deep states of full-body relaxation and mental calmness, and 3. a buddhist-inspired meditation session designed to help you develop and maintain feelings of loving kindness toward not just yourself and your friends, but toward people you don't even like. The CD makes no claims to be designed for advanced meditators or for buddhists or hindus/yoga practitioners looking for very deep and esoteric stuff. It is geared more toward the average person who just wants to develop the habit of relaxation and stress relief through natural, healthy means. him, if you happen to be reading this, keep up the good work fella, and I love your accent. I would also like to note that I have never fallen asleep while listening to this product. I would like to kindly suggest to the reviewer who said this CD makes him fall asleep, that he might want to get checked to see if he has a sleep disorder, or if he is simply not setting aside ample time for restful sleep at night. A healthy person getting adequate rest at night should be able to go into deep states of mental relaxation without dozing off, if not all the time, then most of the time.

    What is also valid is a more gentle path. A simple life, few possessions, finding meaning in the relations you have with family, friends and community, being of service and being kind. Her energy is very harsh, aggressive and abrasive. It's valid and ok to live a quiet, simple life, close to nature with your own guideposts. Society will tell you what to do, produce and consume. But personally I would appreciate if more people slowed down, stopped trying to prove themselves being loud with big ambitions and spent time in nature and tuning into themselves alone for periods of time. Looking inward cures a lot of neuroses about "finding my passion" and can provide self-acceptance and inner peace. ☮️

    It really does come down to what you like and what energizes you. But in order to do that you need to try different things. You have to put yourself out there and get your feet wet. That is the only way you will know what you like and don’t like. Even if you have no idea, just moving towards this idea can be a great feeling because you are finally moving in a direction that is beneficial for you. It’s not easy but the easiest things are never the most rewarding.

    For some people it's very easy to figure out. My brother knew he was a musician when he was 10. But for most it's very hard. And as for me: I'm good at sports, good at writing, decent at music and many other things, but this multi-abilities has been killing me for 20 years. I quit and restart a new career every 5 years. After all the different fields i had worked and even made a lot of money now, at 40 i still can't figure out what to do with my life. Now, I have come to love trading, it gets me up every day and even at 4 am in the morning, even tho this excites me, it's so additive like a drug and i feel very guilty doing it because on the other hand trading feels like gambling, and i have a good creative career writing books (not in english tho as you can see). It is a good path but it bores me. I can see my great future with books, but i can't stand writing for more than 1 hour. Oh boy! WTF is wrong with me?!

  • @lifelonglearnermahir
    @lifelonglearnermahir 2 года назад +25

    Takeaways
    - chase what energizes you and not a "passion" when you don't know your "passion"
    - passion is not a person place or a thing
    - passion is the feeling of being energized
    - chase after what energizes you

    I really needed this video. This is going to sound cheesy but I've been asking myself what is my passion or purpose for years and lately I've been feeling like I'm dirt for not knowing. I felt like I should know by now. I wished so hard to have a clear idea and path and I never thought of changing the question to what energizing me. Thank you so much Mel Robbins for relieving this huge stress I've had forever in my mind. I love to be helpful and do my best in creating things. Whether I'm creating a nice graphic for an email campaign for my job or making my journal look nice or being productive in creating a cleaner home space, I do my best to get it done. I want to apply that to a business of my own some day soon. Life is a work in progress and you can't expect things to happen right away. I need to focus on bettering myself and being strong so I can be strong for others.

      Well, there is a hidden but major difference,
      PASSION : an ambition, a dream , a picture in your mind of being in a certain condition or position, wether your capabilities are for this or not... many times ends in your fantasies
      MOTIVATION: is mainly 1- you admire someone else's success and you want to imitate it to be in their condition or position regardless of your capabilities... and mostly transient, ends quickly
      or 2- listening to some one else's words or advice that push you towards that person idea that he or she urges you to do or undergo... many times is momental, doesn't last long
      But what ENERGIZEs you : is that desire that leads you to a certain imaginable yet feasible, reachable condition or state or Goal, according to your own capabilities and availabilities, You can do it, You can reach it, so every time you focus on it you find yourself achieving step by step forward towards it, by this your mind and body find the required Energy to be exerted available and present... from this you get Energized.
      But guys, take into consideration, that reaching what energizes you comes after a true real deep understanding of who you are and what are your capabilities, what are your skill sets and what talents you have and could be improved....
      So in fact, yes there is different between passion energize and motivation

    • @raym.778

      The difference is psychological.
      When you ask someone to think of their passion, they think with their heart and often don't immediately think of their own real world experiences. Someone can think they're passionate about becoming a musician, until they see actual musicians who are really hungry to make it.
      Asking someone to think of what energizes them immediately puts them in a different frame of mind. They have to think about real world experience. What situations or tasks naturally get them pumped up. What things do they do end feel a natural sense of endurance.

    I love this! The words "purpose" and "passion" can be scary and overwhelming. We put a lot of weight into each of these. So much so that we kind of steer clear of figuring out our purpose. Instead of directly focusing on discovering our purpose in life or a career, we should identify meaningful pursuits and activities that are important to us. One day this may look like going for a walk or going to the gym. Another day this might look like talking to a friend or going out to lunch. Another day this may look like cleaning your house or finishing a work project. None of these activities in isolation are your "passion" but at the time they were important and meaningful. When we intentionally engage in meaningful pursuits and activities over the months and years, we will find our purpose. As an added benefit we may also find our passions too! Hope this helps!

    My passion/energy is to make a story. I had this thing like a movie/story inside my head that it makes me excited. It makes me giddy just to think about what other think I could invented inside my head which leads me to write novels and hopefully one day a screenplay.

    Grateful that my passion found me. Doing what you love definitely opens the doors to many wonderful things that I never thought I'd be doing. Finding what lights you up (your passion) can actually save your life. When you are in flow of your passion your purpose shows up very evidently. You soon start attracting a lot of people who want to know what you know and how you became good at what you have finally mastered. Firstly, you master yourself then you will be able to master what you are good at. You can never be fired from your gifts as these are yours to own forever. Intuition should not be lost, but is lost to many only to have people say they feel lost when they get to a certain age and life has hit them hard because they have not discovered how to win. Find your centre you can never lose your intuitive compass. Sense of direction is such a powerful thing when you know who you are, you're going to find out what you can do, what your capable of your passion will start to rise and I must admit it is a process that takes place over a couple of years for you to understand yourself. Nobody can do this for you but it's worth a rediscover of yourself to be able to find out who you are. You are powerful beyond measure and this what scares people when they realise they are in control of their own destiny.

    Learning & teaching have always energized me. I played school before I ever started kindergarten. Became a teacher & spent 40+ years doing that. Was it exhausting & frustrating & not monetarily rewarding? Yes, but I loved it! Retired now & enjoying doing whatever I feel like doing-or doing nothing at all-bc I feel I’ve earned it. Listen to your heart, & go for what energizes you, like Mel says.

    I've just had a break through and I've never felt so much hope, throughout highschool I've been (and still is) drawn to art, writing and drama. I've just realised why I love them so much and that it's the message behind it. I love showing a story from so many different perspectives and what which one means, I love how the same story will have so many different meanings and that they can have connections with them. I feel like I'm going to cry lol, I finally know what I've been missing 😭

Going through some things in my marriage (and personally). I jotted down what you said, "If you listen to how you feel when it comes to what you want, you will not get it---because you will never feel like it." Thank you for being generous with your knowledge.

    Finding out what energizes me is still a struggle, I have met a lot of people a akin them for help in focusing on my niche on RUclips but they will always ask me to find my passion or what I love doing and all of these still can't help.....until lately when someone told me that you can't find your passion until you explore! That was great right? Until you try new things before you know what you really want or what you're made of

      Fiona Watson She didn’t say think about your passion. She means think about what line of thought energises you.
      Passion is such an overused word these days and many people are confused by it because not everyone has a passion. Ignore the word ‘passion’.

    • @SpiritLeash
      @SpiritLeash 5 лет назад +7

      Fiona, it's because of an irrational underlying belief you hold that is holding you back. You are afraid about not being enough as a person. Go check out rational emotive behavioral therapy to work on this. It's pretty easy but requires work.

    • @kuroihana9360
      @kuroihana9360 4 года назад +2

      I think it is insightful. If money is the only thing that energizes you it doesn’t really matter how you make it and you can make money in a million different ways.
      If the particular way you make money is what excites you, then that is something she can’t spoon feed you because she might not know anything about the method in which you want to make money.
