Dan was born and grew up in my hometown, Peoria, Illinois. We are justifiably proud of him. He had many, many hit songs over the years. This is a favorite because it was the first song I ever heard by him. His father was a band teacher at several local high schools and was well loved and respected in his own right. Rest in peace, Dan. You left us far too soon.

One of my favorite artists. Dan Fogelberg was such a great folk rock singer songwriter & storyteller. He also played multiple instruments such as guitar, bass, piano & mandolin. His biggest hit was "Longer" in 1979. I had his double album "The Innocent Age" from 1981. It had so many good songs on it including "Nexus", "The Reach", "Hard To Say", "Leader Of The Band" & "Run For The Roses". We lost him much too soon in 2007.

This was the first Dan Fogelberg song I ever heard, when it was a new song on the radio in 1974, and I instantly fell in love with him musically. Bought the LP as soon as I had enough money. The entire album is just wonderful. I just about wore that record out. I've been a big fan ever since. His lyrics are something special. He was a treasure.

Danny closes this wonderful song by singing-There is no Eden or heavenly gate that you're gonna make it to one day. But all of the answers you seek can be found in the dreams that you dream on the way. I wrote him a letter years ago and asked him if he was an atheist who didn't believe in God? Many months later I received a reply from him. Which truly shocked me. He told me that no, he wasn't an atheist, he meant that once we died we'd find the answer to what awaits us at the end. He was a really coold dude. Love and miss you, Dan. Rip, brother.

Dan Fogelberg was my favorite artist back in the day and I had all his albums and replaced them with cassettes and then CD's which I still listen to a lot. His story telling and the lyrics in his songs are the best around and his music just paints a picture of what you are listening to. Two examples are "Dancing Shoes" in which the music in the middle sounds like a ballerina dancing and "Ghosts" in which the beginning music sounds like spirits floating down a hallway. My favorite song of his is "The Reach" on The Innocent Age" album but like many others I also recommend "Netherlands" which has the most beautiful music you will ever hear.

Dan Fogelberg is in a class of his own. I can't remember the title but it was him singing about running into an old flame while shopping in a grocery store. I need to hear it again, i will find it. "Same Old Lang Syne" it was about a true story. The story is listed under songfacts, give it a look. and if you please, play the song for your audience. Me, I'm going to play it now. Thanks.

Perfect weather with a chill, the stage was set up with an oriental rug a wooden chair and a microphone ( band instrument were set up as well). But when Dad came out alone with his guitar and started singing, you just had a beautiful feeling of love came over you. Was one of the best concerts I was blessed to attend. Most of us when we die we are reborn. A few of us go back to be part of the Sun. Hell is only a temporary stay in Hinduism. We can also pray to evolve inyo a higher deity. Or we can back to our previous existence as a spiritual being or to be with someone else.
Most important we have to stsy pure in our thoughts and deeds just like the Sun. But the Sun is so hot that Venus because of the penance he did for the Sun (generally stand for Shiva which has a link with Vishnu), has taken to be a significstor of purity in a person's chart.

This record arrived in a box of promos in mid 1974. It sat alongside new singles by various glam rock and disco bands and yet when I played it, although I quickly concluded it was useless for my disco work, I nevertheless immediately loved it and I still do. It's like a sunshine pop record (a genre I almost always like) but with deeper lyrics than that might suggest. Pretty star studded too! Joe Walsh (Eagles etc), Gerry Beckley (America) and possibly Don Henley and Glenn Frey (Eagles) plus Graham Nash (Hollies, CSNY) all played on the sessions in which this was recorded!
In different days, say very very early 1970s, I think this would have been a big UK hit - but like so many other great tracks it got washed away by the torrent of glam rock and disco music which dominated from about 1972 onward. Such a shame. "Longer" is another track of his which holds up particularly well.
"Part of the Plan" is and will always be in my all time personal top 30 though.
