June: I definitely agree that Kate Bush has been - and is - an enormous influence on some music artists. (And she is my favourite artist of all time, too!)
Unfortunately, given the state of the mainstream charts at the moment, you wouldn't guess it! (So much autotuning/blandness out there - with talented young independent artists often getting frozen out by the music industry - it's such a shame!)
I believe Midge Ure ("Ultravox") - a great supporter of Kate Bush - has spoken about the success of 'music by committee' and of 'mediocrity 'win[ning]'; I'd love to think that the recent success of "Running Up That Hill" will mark a turning point in this trend...
Unfortunately, however, I am not optimistic.
Take care, June - and thanks for your contribution to this discussion!

I have been a fan since I saw her on SNL in 1978..! Being that I live in the US it took a few years between seeing her on SNL and "rediscovering her" via a friend who played BREATHING for me... around 1981 or something... US has always been behind the times.. I was in a KATE BUSH Pen pal group and have just really embraced her music. I am glad that new generations discovered her cause she is great and maybe we will have a resurgence in more creative less auto-tune monotonous music ....

The exposure will allow her to be discovered by fans that earnestly enjoy and understand her genius. If you don't wanna see TikToks that ruin the song, don't watch them! New Life? - Who is Kate Bush? are you $h!77!ng me? - between Weathering Heights, This Woman's Work, cloud Busting, Sensual World, and Running Up That Road, everyone on Earth has heard her music at least 5 times over.
I owned The Hounds of Love, The Kick Inside, and Lion Heart, in 1985, in America.
Yet somehow some durpy piece of tween television "reintroduces" her music to "The World" every 5 years or so.
Parents need to make their kids stop listening to commercial pop podcasts and stop them shopping at Walmart.
I thought I was going to lose it when everyone thought Breaking Bad introduced Bad Finger to the world, I'm just waiting for the day when some Anemia has Kashmir in it's sound track so some kid can tell me about this long lost Band called Led Zeppelin.
looking forward to the increase of sweater sales .

Sadly like a lot of great British acts, Kate made almost no impact in the states, so the Americans need a belated introduction.
That here, she is a national treasure and the key inspiration for artists like Bjork, FKA Twiggs, Tori Amos etc means little too them.

Yes I suppose it is good that other people are discovering her, it’s just the fact that sometimes if I grow up with something I feel the need to protect it if you get what I’m saying? Just the fact it’s nostalgia I think as my parents LOVE her haha! :)

    • @philfoster8789
      @philfoster8789 2 года назад +4

Alan: I think you're correct. There are - and have been - some very gifted "pop music" (if the term truly relates to what she produces) artists out there; but what Kate Bush creates is, I think, in a different league! As band member, Del Palmer has commented:
      'No one even comes close.'
I'm not disputing the talent displayed by, say, Lori Anderson; what I am arguing is that, in terms of consistency and longevity, Kate Bush's accessibility, all-round ability, brilliance, depth and originality - what a back catalogue she has(!) - is peerless.
      Well said, Alan!
