The best thing about the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, to me is that the chambers following the third-floor corridor containing Fluffy each play to the strengths of Harry, Ron and Hermione. The Devil's Snare chamber caters to Hermione's knowledge of spells. The room with the winged keys caters to Harry's skill with quidditch. And the chess room caters to Ron's knowledge of how to play chess. Side notes: The Sorting Hat chooses new students' houses based on their corresponding personality traits: Gryffindor-Bravery, helping others, and chivalry. Hufflepuff-Hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play. Ravenclaw-Intelligence, knowledge, and wit. Slytherin-Ambition, cunning and resourcefulness. Erised (The Mirror of Erised) is the word desire spelled backward. Hedwig is a snowy owl. They have ruffled wing feathers to silence their flight so prey animals don't hear them coming. They also have natural camouflage due to their coloration, and they're the only birds who don't have bare feet due to their habitats, like the Arctic Tundra. At the time of the deaths of Lily and James Potter at the hands of Voldemort, Harry was only 15 months old.

Your comparison of Dumbledore to Merlin is pretty apt, but the fact that you didn't compare him to Gandalf suggests to me that you have not seen "The Lord of the Rings" either, and I definitely have to recommend that you guys watch that trilogy after this because it is pretty widely regarded as the greatest trilogy of all time, and definitely the most influential.

In the books, the other houses feature a lot more. The Griffindors have classes with the other houses, so you get to know the students, especially the ones who are the same age as Harry.

The American Publishers didn't think Americans would grasp that a Philosopher might do magic, so Britain and the US had different titles. They used the American Title for the movie. 7 books, 8 movies. I enjoyed this. I rewatch this series, one movie a week, every year between Halloween and Christmas. I was obsessed with the books, as my kids were exactly the right age for rereading the series each time a new book was coming. I also confess to writing fan fiction once upon a time.

This was hell of a move to make Harry unaware of the magical world. He knows nothing, just as viewers (readers) and he has to be slowly introduced to its rules, which shows the viewers the history, physics etc. in a very natural, unintrusive way. We learn with Harry, we know as much as he does in the moment. This makes the story so much more interesting and unpredictable.
Just found your channel and love that I’m starting this early through your Harry Potter journey. As others have likely told you, the movies do get darker. Basically, the first two movies are bright and adolescent in nature while giving you important background info on the lore and characters. The third is where you see it get darker, the fourth is actually where you see the stakes rise and it only gets darker, more dangerous and serious after that. But always building on the story each installment. I am subscribing so I can follow along with you guys and I hope you do the 20 year reunion! Reactors often feel weird about it but they ✨ALWAYS ✨ are glad they did.

I like that you mentioned that Harry is so kind even though after what he went through before he knew about magic His life up to that point really impacted his actions in this movie When he carefully set down the wands that didn’t work shows that he was treated VERY poorly when breaking things at his relatives’ house When he looks so happy to see all the food on his first day at Hogwarts reminds me of how his Uncle said “You won’t have any meals for a week”. He’s probably been denied food a lot He sounds excited when he finds out there’s a present for him at Christmas because he’s had to watch his cousin get over 30 gifts multiple times while Harry had zero He’s quicker to trust his friends instead of the adults around him because the adults who were around him up until that point were in NO WAY WHATSOEVER trustworthy I love that Harry feels that his home is not with his relatives, but it is with the people who he met, and only knew for a year, who treated him kindly

They never explain it in any of the movies, but he has to keep living at the Dursley's part of the year because the love protection spell from his mother only keeps going if he can call a blood relative's house his home. Petunia is his only remaining blood relative.
When you look at the plaque that says James Potter you can also see M McGonagall or Minerva McGonagall because she was a seeker as well. She also bought him his first good broom before his first match.👍🏼

The houses thing is very reflective of real UK schools. We had birds of prey as our theme in my school so houses were Eages, Kestrels and Ospreys. I was a kestrel and we had a red PE kit. Would earn house points in things like sports day.
The Sorcere's Stone was the version made for the US market. It was felt by the producers that Americans wouldn't understand "the Philosopher's Stone" as a title, because the the word Philosopher means something different to Americans. These movies were made in the UK by a British production company and were adaptations of books written by a British Author. That's why a few minor changes had to be made for US audiences.
Rons character is played down a bit in the movies but in the books he is far from the lesser of the three. He notices things and stores them up and they become useful later. He is very much over shadowed by his brothers before him. The twins are naughty and cool, Percy is the academic, two others who have now left Hogworts, one works for Gringotts and one as mentioned, works in Romania with dragons. Also his wand did not chose him its an older one belonging to his mother to save money.

Because as I remember, I think in the book Professor Quirrell met Voldemort as he was at his weakest, he gained Quirrell's empathy, took advantage of him and at some point, well you saw what happened in the end. Voldemort became a parasite that latched onto Quirrell and manipulated him.
Quidditch has 7 players in each team. 3 Chasers 2 Beaters 1 Keeper 1 Seeker The Chasers are in charge of scoring goals by catching the Quaffle balls and throwing them into one of 3 hoops at the other team's side of the field. Beaters are in charge of protecting their players from getting hit by the bludger balls with wooden bat's. They are also in charge of hitting the opposing team with the bludgers by using their bats. The Keeper's job is to protect their team's hoops by not allowing the opposing team to score any goals by blocking the Quaffle and preventing it from getting through their hoops. The Seeker's job is to find the Snitch and catch it before the other team does. Once the Snitch is caught, then the game ends. You Don't necessarily win when you catch the snitch. Yes, the snitch is 150 points, and the game does end when the snitch is caught. But the team that catches the snitch can lose the game if the opposing team had already gained far more points prior to the snitch being caught. So it's important to score as many points as possible with the Quaffle and hoops before any seeker of any team catches the snitch, causing the game to end. Unfortunately, they never show it in any of the Harry Potter movies (so this is not a spoiler to any future Potter movies) but in one of the books Harry witnesses a certain team loose a certain Quidditch match dispite that team's Seeker having caught the snitch. BTW, did you know that people became such a massive fan of the fictional sport of Quidditch that college students made it into a real-world international sport that is played in real colleges all over the world. Players compete with broomstick between their legs, and the snitch is a person (dressed in gold with a handkerchief tucked into his or her's belt) running around all over the place. The seeker has to catch the person playing as the snitch by grabbing onto the handkerchief and pulling it off the snitch's body. You can do a RUclips search and view a few matches played in different countries. I have seen 2 or 3 Quidditch matches in person back in the day. Tons of fun. If you ever want to know how Quidditch is played and its fictional history, the author of Harry Potter, JK Rowling, also wrote other books for charities. One of them is called Quidditch Through the Ages, and it is written as if it were one of Harry Potter's text books. 🧹📚

The 7th book was made into 2 movies. A good number of the Adult Actors are quite famous. When you are done with the 8 movies, you should watch the 20th Anniversary show. Plus, there are three prequal movies Magical Beasts and where to find them.
Since you're just starting the series, I won't spoil anything.. however, the reason Harry must spend time with his Aunt and Uncle is because of protection. I can't say too much as to why. I just want you to know there is a REASON Harry has to be there, despite how horrible they treat him. He's not just there for nothing. It'll make more sense when you finish the series.

I never understood why they changed it in the first place. It has always been the philosopher's stone,, until....I dont know. Nicolas Flamel was an alchemist and alchemists are philosophers, so it makes much more sense than sorcerer stone 😊
Boy do I have a story for you. This is the real story behind the name change. When the first book was being published in America from the UK publishers, the American editors made the choice to change the name to Sorcerer because they thought American kids wouldn’t pick up a book with Philosopher in the title. It was too sophisticated a word. That’s why there are 2 versions of the first book now. :)

They never explain it in any of the movies, but he has to keep living at the Dursley's part of the year because the love protection spell from his mother only keeps going if he can call a blood relative's house his home. Petunia is his only remaining blood relative.
When you look at the plaque that says James Potter you can also see M McGonagall or Minerva McGonagall because she was a seeker as well. She also bought him his first good broom before his first match.👍🏼

The houses thing is very reflective of real UK schools. We had birds of prey as our theme in my school so houses were Eages, Kestrels and Ospreys. I was a kestrel and we had a red PE kit. Would earn house points in things like sports day.
The Sorcere's Stone was the version made for the US market. It was felt by the producers that Americans wouldn't understand "the Philosopher's Stone" as a title, because the the word Philosopher means something different to Americans. These movies were made in the UK by a British production company and were adaptations of books written by a British Author. That's why a few minor changes had to be made for US audiences.

Rons character is played down a bit in the movies but in the books he is far from the lesser of the three. He notices things and stores them up and they become useful later. He is very much over shadowed by his brothers before him. The twins are naughty and cool, Percy is the academic, two others who have now left Hogworts, one works for Gringotts and one as mentioned, works in Romania with dragons. Also his wand did not chose him its an older one belonging to his mother to save money.
Dumbledore put him with his aunt because it gave him protection as long as he can call his mom's family "home"...

Because as I remember, I think in the book Professor Quirrell met Voldemort as he was at his weakest, he gained Quirrell's empathy, took advantage of him and at some point, well you saw what happened in the end.
Voldemort became a parasite that latched onto Quirrell and manipulated him.

Sourcer's stone is the USA version of Philosopher's stone. Like in the Twilight series the 7th book of the Harry Potter books is split into 2 movies.

1 Keeper
1 Seeker
The Chasers are in charge of scoring goals by catching the Quaffle balls and throwing them into one of 3 hoops at the other team's side of the field.
Beaters are in charge of protecting their players from getting hit by the bludger balls with wooden bat's. They are also in charge of hitting the opposing team with the bludgers by using their bats.
The Keeper's job is to protect their team's hoops by not allowing the opposing team to score any goals by blocking the Quaffle and preventing it from getting through their hoops.
The Seeker's job is to find the Snitch and catch it before the other team does. Once the Snitch is caught, then the game ends.
You Don't necessarily win when you catch the snitch. Yes, the snitch is 150 points, and the game does end when the snitch is caught. But the team that catches the snitch can lose the game if the opposing team had already gained far more points prior to the snitch being caught. So it's important to score as many points as possible with the Quaffle and hoops before any seeker of any team catches the snitch, causing the game to end. Unfortunately, they never show it in any of the Harry Potter movies (so this is not a spoiler to any future Potter movies) but in one of the books Harry witnesses a certain team loose a certain Quidditch match dispite that team's Seeker having caught the snitch.
BTW, did you know that people became such a massive fan of the fictional sport of Quidditch that college students made it into a real-world international sport that is played in real colleges all over the world. Players compete with broomstick between their legs, and the snitch is a person (dressed in gold with a handkerchief tucked into his or her's belt) running around all over the place. The seeker has to catch the person playing as the snitch by grabbing onto the handkerchief and pulling it off the snitch's body. You can do a RUclips search and view a few matches played in different countries. I have seen 2 or 3 Quidditch matches in person back in the day. Tons of fun.
If you ever want to know how Quidditch is played and its fictional history, the author of Harry Potter, JK Rowling, also wrote other books for charities. One of them is called Quidditch Through the Ages, and it is written as if it were one of Harry Potter's text books.

The 7th book was made into 2 movies. A good number of the Adult Actors are quite famous. When you are done with the 8 movies, you should watch the 20th Anniversary show. Plus, there are three prequal movies Magical Beasts and where to find them.
Since you're just starting the series, I won't spoil anything.. however, the reason Harry must spend time with his Aunt and Uncle is because of protection. I can't say too much as to why. I just want you to know there is a REASON Harry has to be there, despite how horrible they treat him. He's not just there for nothing. It'll make more sense when you finish the series.

It's weird seeing the title as Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone instead of what I grew up with Harry Potter and the sorcerer's stone
I never understood why they changed it in the first place. It has always been the philosopher's stone,, until....I dont know. Nicolas Flamel was an alchemist and alchemists are philosophers, so it makes much more sense than sorcerer stone 😊
Boy do I have a story for you. This is the real story behind the name change. When the first book was being published in America from the UK publishers, the American editors made the choice to change the name to Sorcerer because they thought American kids wouldn’t pick up a book with Philosopher in the title. It was too sophisticated a word. That’s why there are 2 versions of the first book now. :)
