I used to own an original one of these. it was a more stripped down model, but it was the same body shape and everything. It was amazing; especially the big baseball bat neck. and the pickups were incredible; pretty similar to what i'm hearing in this reissue, actually. not identical, but pretty darn close. What a cool guitar.
This is some great playing! He makes this guitar sound terrific, as I bet he can with most any guitar. I like the no-nonsense way he demos the various pickup combinations. I prefer the two extreme ends sound. I have an old Kay, and both pups together get that snarzy sound that a 'good' guitar just can't make.
This guy is Jonny the fox and the milky bar kid all rolled into one, what a player, what a style man, from jump blues, surf vibes to rockabilly and swing, fucking jive and then blues rock etc,etc he's like the natural progression of srv hank, jimmy and many more,I just can't name.
inspired to get my old teisco type thing out and touch up the soldering and give it a setup...that houndog taylor jam at the start did it for ..give me back my wig
RJ!!! Great job on all your videos. I love your Hound Dog Taylor influenced blues here and the surf stuff with the California Rebel. Keep 'em coming!!!!
I love everything about this vid,,,great playing, great tone and a cool guitar. Just saw the SD-40 in the latest VG. Blast from my past (i turned 60 a month or two ago). I don't play slide but this guitar offers so many good tones and for a retro factor its off the charts! Thank you for posting this.
A lot of the earlier Teisco / Kawai made guitars were OK players, the weakest part being the bridges, some of which were off in intonation. The higher level ones had adjustable bridges that would intonate correctly. On some of them the open back style tuners would wear out. It really depended on the brand and the model. I have one, it's a great blues guitar. Has a good bridge on it.
They did not mention. usually if you run into the original guitars, they usually have the Kingston name on them and or the kawai, maybe some had tiesco del ray name, have not seen it yet though. RJ just Rips up on this and makes ya want one of those Hound dogs, I wish they would do another run of them. I love the what I call TUBBY, no middle or Scooped kind of sound. When the drive comes on it just about disappears, then it sounds so Raw!!! RJ you da Best!!!
@@eastwoodguitarsofficial Is the sound he is getting at 2:50-3:40 actually the sound of those Pickups or does he have some sound processing / pedal effect going on??? I do not see them scheduled by Eastwood any time soon, any Idea when they will return? Ballpark?
Whoa you have a tattoo of the six fingered man Hound Dog Taylor? that is amazing. Love him. ...When things go wrong, go wrong for you, it hurts me too...
love it a reissue of a guitar thar was trying to be a burns bison and it sounds great! best thing about eastwood cool budget 60s guitars made with good material this time i used to dream about my old catolouge guitars being built well, now they are
That bit at about 1:40 alternating slide and index finger was just lovely. Ive gotta learn that. Is that just a collar for a snig fit on the slide or is it weight too?. Sometimes i wish i could hear things throiugh a shitty amp (a crate 20 or the like). y'know some sort of baseline measure - cause i suspect that if i plugged a FirstAct/$60 guitar in there it would sound pretty good
Being a huge HDT acolyte myself, I'd love to hear what you're using in this demo. The only Eastwood I ever bought I was severely disappointed in the pickups.
@@eastwoodguitarsofficial Thanks for the excellent reply! I wasn't aware of that. And, this particular guitar, in this guy's hands and with his particular amp sounds fantastic! ✨❤️🥴👍✨

Man, this kid is killer, I could watch him play all day.
Ol' Hound Dog is looking down from heaven and smiling, and calling out "Well all right!"
0:27 = Hound Dog's hand tattooed on his arm!
Gotta love Hound Dog! Natural Boogie is among the greatest blues boogie albums of all time.
RJ’s slide playing on this demo just makes my happy! It’s so good! 👌
I've never heard this guy be anything less than fabulous! Plays with great energy. Great job as always!

Do you mean that Scooped TUBBY kind of sound??, I have tried to duplicate that with my current guitars it is hard to get that.
Killer tone on that one

IMHO: R.J. Ronquillo IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! = JUST INCREDIBLE !!!!!!!!!
That guitar is so freaking cool, and the playing wonderful as always - thanks RJ...!
May the hand of Hound Dog Taylor guide you on your merry way. What a cool video and what a rad tattoo with all the six fingers still left.
My awe has been totally inspired by both this guitar and its player. The Hound would be tickled to see all this!
Love the behind the slide playing, pure smoke!
Geez, what great tones coming out of this thing! RJ killing it as usual.

Great sounding pickups! Takes me back to the first hound dog taylor album on alligator....beautiful tones toward the end of vid....
I'm sold on Josh Smiths amazing skills on this classic style guitar. He sure knows how to keep you interested. Magic.
Amazing playing. Everything's just going over my head. You can tell he's just one of those types that simply just loves playing the guitar.
this guitar is also probably 100x better than the original too haha

Virtuoso!,!!!
Real tasty licks bro.
Lots of twang and tonal variety!
Damn, that's some fine pickin' and slide. Can't get any better sounding pickups than those Kawai Hound Dogs.
Sounds like it can produce some Strat-like tones as well. Useful guitar with a high cool factor.
25.5 scale neck
Great stuff man ! Nice axe !

I'm surprised not many people know of RJ?
Tell me YT: Why hasn't this a million views????
You can swing, man. Go RJ!
I can tell right away RJ connected to this instrument.
I've got that same picture as his tattoo on my wall, Hound Dod.

RJ, excellent, what is that capo you are using? I love that guitar, what size frets are on that thing, they look huge!
Looks like a G7th. Super practical, stable and quickly set in place or removed. I love mine.
No, I've got a G7th, the one RJ is using looks like a tube or small slide.
Pretty sure it is actually. My G7th looks exactly like that. The Performance 2 model.
It is indeed a g7th
Awesome. What amp and pedals did you use?
Being a huge HDT acolyte myself, I'd love to hear what you're using in this demo. The only Eastwood I ever bought I was severely disappointed in the pickups.
Man, that is some good stuff. Lots of lovely buttons and knobs. What's that amp? Perfect match for the guitar.
My next guitar.
Nice choice!
What a wonderful guitar to play Hiatt on. Honestly, well done.
