Hello there. good project. Shadow boxes are great woodworking projects because they are not built with complex joinery. Thank's for the information. Huge greetings...
I gave this to a friend who painted it and finished prepping it for the final recipient, another friend of ours. It was a fun collaboration! Thanks for watching!
You are hilarious!! I was looking for how to make a shadow box and your video popped up in my search. I'm glad it did, because you have a great sense of humor and that alone makes me want to subscribe to your channel. PS... I am not a woodworker, just a crafter that balked at the price of shadow boxes at the store.
Haha! Thank you very much! I try to make this all enjoyable, and I’m glad you enjoyed it! Have fun working on these, they are a good starter project to get into woodworking!
White Lab Workshop Oh! You could not be wrong. If we had a challenge to see who makes the most mistakes, you really don’t stand a chance!!! I’m the king of mistakes! Haha. I don’t show all of them in my videos or they would be 2 hours long.
Great to hear, thank you! A project like this can be done without a table saw. You just may need to get creative with the tools you have. For mine, I didn’t need to add glass to it. However, you could make another frame to inset the glass into and attach it to the front with small hinges.
I bought a shadowbox and spent three weeks on the display but now it wont fit back into the slots? Literally one corner bent back so what do I do to actually assemble it. I am baffled?
Great video!! I'm new to woodworking - what are the specific hoses you're using for the DeWalt sanders dust collection? I have the same sander and am having trouble finding the right hoses. Thanks again.
Hey, White Lab, Would you please let me know the dimensions of your beautiful sled? I WILL make one. I see it's 3/4" ply and it's double ply on the vertical pieces.
First of all, thank you for the nice compliment! I love my crosscut sled. It’s 37 inches wide by 24 inches deep. I used 1/2 inch MDF for the bottom and glued together 3/4 inch plywood, as you noticed, for the verticals. I positioned the kerf slightly to the right of center, so more sled goes to the left. And I stopped the vertical pieces about 3 inches short of the bottom, on the left side, to give me room to clamp extension stop blocks on. That last part has been a great benefit, when needed. Also, add some extra plywood where the blade would come through as a safety precaution. Have fun with it!
@@WhiteLabWorkshop ok it’s to clamp a stop block. I read it wrong but I could clamp over the top as well as around the end. Oh well whatever I want to do. Thanks again.
I didn’t install any glass in mine. An extra dado around the frame to accept the glass would be an easy addition. Then add it when assembling the frame.
This one is getting painted and will get some trinkets for a fun award for a friend of mine. I don’t want to say specifically, in the off-chance he sees this, but it’s pretty specific to an activity we both participate in anyway. Though my wife saw it and has requested more for Cricut sign making.
My application didn’t call for it, but there’s a couple of options I can think of right away. You could build a frame with the glass inset in it with hot glue or caulk to hold it, then mount it with hinges. Another option would be recess the glass in the front of the shadow box and add some trim pieces with finishing nails to hold it, once your pieces are mounted for display. Obviously that would be more permanent. Just depends what your use case is. Thanks for watching!
Hello! In the US, the frame material is called 1x2. It is actually 3/4 inch by 1.5 inches. The backer is 1/4 inch plywood. Size is whatever you need for your application.
You should join your local sanders anonymous for help. Seriously though, the well timed joked really make the video more enjoyable.

Thanks! Keep it simple, yet it still looks nice!
Hi Brent, Shadow boxes are very popular today, they are really neat ways to display things. Looks really nice.

My origami and your shadow box would be a perfect fit! Very nicely done!!
Thanks! I agree! Maybe we’ll have to revisit this sometime!
I will send you some of my projects that I need professional sanding.
You are making good use of your rollout workbenches.
Haha! Thanks! But my enthusiasm for sanding wears off pretty quickly. Don’t expect a very fast turnaround...
I could have used you a week ago! Now I know.

Haha! "The tough guy corner" didn't want to lay down :) LOL!
Haha!
Lol. You’re funny. Great job!! 😁
Haha! Thank you!
I think I am becoming an amazing woodworker too! 😂😂 thanks for sharing 👍🍻
Haha! We’d make a good team!
@@WhiteLabWorkshop because we would make twice as many mistakes?😂
OMG I love your sarcasm! lol
Looks good my friend.
Thank you, sir!
Fun little project. 🙌🏻👍🏻
Thanks! Simple projects can be fun because they go do quickly.
Great build buddy. 💪 I see what you did with your crosscut sled. 👌
For sure! A simple addition for a little “danger zone” to keep those fingers attached.
Great video!!
Thank you!
Sweet result buddy, never trust those lumber measurements for accuracy lol 🍻👍👍
Ha! Isn’t that the truth!
Bawhahaha sanding is my favorite 🤣😂😆 fun❣️❣️
Haha! Thanks for watching!
Nice one! Very informative about how to fix mistakes! Haha. Great video my friend!
Thanks, dude! I know you’d never have to worry about fixing mistakes, right?

Video was easy to follow only we don’t have a table saw ugh also how do u add the glass to it does it sit on top of it ?

Nice job on the build! Enjoyed the video!
Thanks man!
This looks like actual work 😫
Welp, to Michael's I go, but great job!! 👍
Why’d you quit RUclips? Hope you come back!
I've just had to revisit this video as I need to make a couple of shadowboxes for a upcoming renovation at home, I instantly thought of your channel 😁
That’s awesome! Thanks for coming back!
Can you build me a 28x17 shadow box 4 inches deep?
I bought a shadowbox and spent three weeks on the display but now it wont fit back into the slots? Literally one corner bent back so what do I do to actually assemble it. I am baffled?

@@WhiteLabWorkshop thanks for the detailed response. It’s exactly what I needed. Don’t know how you’d clamp an extension on the left end.

1:10 in this early video of mine shows what I meant about an extension for a stop block: ruclips.net/video/JlFLy-vbw9Q/видео.html. Good luck with it!
How much cost
This video was so helpful. Loved how you fixed the mistake.
Did you also make the cross cut sled?
Thank you for the great comment! Yes, I made the cross cut sled using the 5 cut method by William Ng.
How did you install plexiglass?
I didn’t install any glass in mine. An extra dado around the frame to accept the glass would be an easy addition. Then add it when assembling the frame.
I make those mistakes all the time my projects always ends up like a puzzle. 😅
But what are you going to put inside of the shadow box?
This one is getting painted and will get some trinkets for a fun award for a friend of mine. I don’t want to say specifically, in the off-chance he sees this, but it’s pretty specific to an activity we both participate in anyway. Though my wife saw it and has requested more for Cricut sign making.

Hi Could Please Have Size For All of Wood Piece

I noticed "obviously"
If you had used 45 degree corners the routed groove would not show.
Yep. In hindsight, that would probably have been the more fool-proof plan.
Cut a miter joint and then the rabbit wont show
Yep, you are correct. There’s always more than one way to approach a project.
Thank you for the video. Cognitive.
You are welcome!
if I had to do this over I would have picked woodwork instead of home ec.
Hindsight is always 20/20!
Toot that horn bro
This man’s got jokes
not everyone has a table saw.
