    This video is really good, hell How to Brew Everything's Wheat Beer video is also really good, but pleeeease don't follow what Nick does and drink homebrew straight from the bottle.
    Theres a layer of yeast at the bottom of every finished, unfiltered, bottle conditioned homebrew; by lifting the bottle up to sip from it, youre mixing the yeast back into your beer.
    Unless you want the runs/gas for the rest of the night pour your beer into a glass.

    If you're using the catalyst system fermenter... would you just add the sugar straight to the fermenter and stir gently before bottling? the catalyst system is equipped with a bottling attachment, so i wanted to check on the best way to applying the priming sugars.

    Bought this kit, excited to try it out! My only gripe is that is supposedly contains "everything you need to start brewing today"; but then you talk about keeping your temp between 160-170 degrees... seems like a thermometer might help with that, huh? So now I gotta go out somewhere and find a suitable thermometer to make sure I get this right. Other than that this looks really cool. Already ordered my bottles as well. Let's do this...

    After you use the cleaning solution, do you rinse with water? Or let dry?

    • @NorthernBrewerTV
      @NorthernBrewerTV  3 года назад +2

      Most cleaners should be rinsed; most sanitizers do not. The no-rinse cleaner powder that comes with our BSE Starter Kit does not need to be rinse as it's sort of a hybrid of both. But more industrial cleaners like PBW definitely need to be rinsed. Sanitizers like Star San do not and you can even rack beer/wine/cider directly onto the residual foam as long as all the sanitizer liquid has been poured out of the vessel.

    Will the airlock still work with the red cap on??

    • @NorthernBrewerTV
      @NorthernBrewerTV  6 лет назад +3

      The cap only prevents anything from falling into the airlock. There is room under the cap for the CO2 to escape.

    • @NorthernBrewerTV

      This video shows a much older version of the Brew Share Enjoy kit. The current setup includes two siphonless spigots with tubing to help you transfer from primary fermenter to bottling bucket and from bottling bucket to bottles, making the auto siphon non-essential in the new equipment line-up. You did receive the siphonless spigots, right? If not, definitely let us know.

    Should i keep the airlock closed? How the co2 will scape?

    • @NorthernBrewerTV
      @NorthernBrewerTV  4 года назад

      You should fill the airlock with water, sanitizer solution or even cheap spirits to allow CO2 to escape your bucket or carboy but not allow air/oxygen back into the vessel.

    I know the airlock isn't a gauge of fermentation but there is any action. Could it be because i followed this video i hadn't aerated the beer? or am i just being impatient?
    Any help would be great. Think ill start using a hydrometer on my next batch.

    I gave this video a thumbs down, it is a good video, but there are two critical omissions of important information. Two important pieces of information which took me months to come to realize. I don’t think that adding these pieces of information to the video would be information overload for the new brewer.
    Three years ago I bought this kit, which was a great purchase. I still use a number of the items that came in this kit today. This is an updated video since I bought my kit, but it is essentially the same. It still contains the worst possible advice that you can give to a new brewer, and omits an important piece of information.
    At approximately the 7:30 mark of this video “Tap water, if it’s good to drink, it’s good to brew with”. This is the worst advice you can give to a new brewer. It took me months to learn that the chlorine in my tap water was giving me undesirable flavors. You should include a campden tablet in this kit with instructions to use it to treat your water if your municipality treats your water with chlorine or chloramine. You should also redo this video to state the same.
    At approximately 14:00 mark you state to put the beer in a warm dark place. I think you should expand a bit on the temperature of fermentation. You say “warm”, hmmm, what is that supposed to mean. Too warm = off flavors. You should say in the video that yeast produces heat when fermenting, and to try and keep the beer somewhere where the temperature is at least a few degrees below the top end of the yeasts ideal temperature range.
    As I mentioned, this is a great product, and is what got me started in homebrewing. Three years, and 55 batches later, my friends think that I should open a micro brewery. I gave a work friend a few bottles, a coffee porter, a cranberry chocolate stout, and a Christmas ale with cinnamon and ginger. He had a serious discussion with me about buying beer from me…
