Morning Report 19 Jun 24: ASX to consolidate on yesterdays gains

- US sharemarkets edged higher on Tuesday in subdued pre-holiday trading as investors focused on softer-than-expected US retail sales data. Nvidia overtook Microsoft to become the world's most valuable company, with its shares climbing 3.5%. Other chip stocks also extended their recent rally, boosting the Philadelphia SE Semiconductor index by 1.4% to an all-time high. Qualcomm, Arm Holdings and Micron Technology were up between 2.2% and 8.6%. Homebuilder Lennar fell 5% after forecasting lower-than-expected third-quarter home deliveries. The Dow Jones index rose 57 points or 0.2%. The S&P 500 index gained 0.3% and the Nasdaq index added 5 points or 0.03%, both closing at record highs.
