    The pollution that has seeped into the soil in and around that ship breaking yard has to be immense. Cancerous asbestos probably falls like snow everywhere. I feel so sorry for those poor people who have no other way to make a living, but to immerse themselves into this deadly environment daily, without safety equipment, for a pittance of wages. The profiteers who are taking advantage of all of these unfortunate individuals deserve to be shot for crimes against humanity.

    • @propanepusher101

      a majority of the scrap iron they process there ends up over here in America as rebar for concrete, found that out several years ago, crazy ain't it, I think they make 25 -30 cents a day I could be wrong that though

    • @williamcharles9480
      @williamcharles9480 7 лет назад

      Richard Mercer To tell you the truth it may be even less in some places. It's just a hair above slave labor. I saw a documentary on, I believe, PBS and it showed the squalor that these poor people live in who are the employees. Ship breaking is usually a family affair as generation after generation struggles to maintain some sort of existence. In these countries, a job that pays almost nothing is far better than to have no job at all. They aren't provided any safety equipment and their rate of blindness is extremely high from not having goggles to use with the many cutting torches being used. For the majority, blindness comes at an early age. Many don't even have shoes. If you suffer any debilitating injury, tough luck. There is always someone there to take your place. There's no benefits or health care. The company owners are corrupt and pay off any government officials who may go to investigate deaths that have occurred at the job site. (That shouldn't be surprising.) The company owners will make millions while those doing all of the labor get paid virtually nothing during their short careers. It's criminal and the importation of the steel products, such as the rebar that you mentioned, is difficult to trace as of it's true origin. Again, because of the corruption that exists.

      Very well said

    • @williamcharles9480
      @williamcharles9480 7 лет назад

      Richard Mercer It's truly a shame that these owners, through greed, prefer to allow their employees to suffer rather than to invest a small percentage of their huge gain to prevent or relieve it.

    My dad had a friend who was flying over England in the late 1970's or early 1980's when he was forced to land.I can't remember if it was due to weather or engine trouble, but he landed on what looked like a closed runway. While waiting for help he went into a building where he found what looked like a briefing room. On the black board were plans for a bombing mission, the date on the board was 8 May 1945. He said it looked like they all just got up and left the room, not even bothering to erase the aborted plans for that days flight.
    I like to imagine that someone ran into the room with good news while the briefing was still taking place and everyone cheered and left, going home to hug their wives and kids, thankful they had survived the war. After they celebrated with their families they never again thought of the briefing room they were in when the war ended.

    The Saint Nicholas breaker is within 30 minutes of where I live in Pennsylvania It was definitely a sight to see. Unfortunately, with the demise of the coal industry, the vats majority of the breakers have been torn down. My home town, Shamokin PA is happens to be the home of what was once the world's largest culm (coal is the refuse left over after goal is mined, the useless parts) bank.

    Number 10 - old milk factory in Brisbane. That would almost certainly be the old Pauls Milk shed. The address is 65 Montague Rd, South Brisbane.
    www.google.com.au/maps/@-27.4712273,153.0154279,17z?hl=en&hl=en
    Now, to complicate matters, the site is in use again doing the same thing, but the company is now Permalat. I think they demolished the old buildings (depression era stuff) and started again, and I think the old factory stood empty for a couple of years... What you see in those pics, is not there any more.

    Casa Grande Domes - When it was first built by the original dome home company (the first steel reinforced concrete, foam insulated dome home company) it was used as both an education center on the use of monolithic domes in every thing from homes, to warehouses, to churches. It was also used to manufacture the plastic envelopes for the domes (long Caterpillar like building which was also painted like a caterpillar)late 80's to 90's. The one that looks like a flying saucer was the office.

    I actually like the idea of recycling ships. There are so many abandoned ones around the globe, littering either the coasts (or places that once were coasts) or the seabed. That's a brilliant idea indeed. Unfortunately, the organizers have a pecuniary interest and the conditions are not ideal, I assume, but there is no reason why you can't do both: save the environment and keep a business running legitimately.

    Skeleton Bay and Cape Cross in Namibia again. I live in Namibia and surfed there when I was younger. Now I am not keen on freezing my ass off and walking on water every time I see a shark.
    Epic surf, especially in May/June. The water is cold and sleeping on the beach is even colder. There are jackals and Brown Hyena that mover around there and I have even seen a lion hunting for seals. The sharks are not small either but I have had bigger scares from seals than sharks.

    No, DO pay attention to the negative comments about your pronunciations. If you're going to keep narrating videos, you REALLY need to learn to pronounce words and place names correctly. For example, ka - NAIR - ee is how to pronounce Canary; just like the lttle bird, although that isn't what the islands are named for.

    • @dtrotteryt
      @dtrotteryt 5 лет назад

      No shit! I was literally just typing the same thing... Cannery Islands. WTF? I moved my original post to a reply to yours...
      My god... If you are making videos please learn pronunciation of all the words you[re going to be using. To name a few:
      Canary - It is pronounced Kuh-nair-ee, not cannery. Canneries are where they put products into metal cans. The islands are not named after the canning process.
      Antarctica - it is pronounced Ant-arc-ti-kuh, not antartica - there IS a C in there. Silent C after R is not a grammatical rule.

    You know with #4 you mixed up the story with Flight 901, a DC-10? Unless the stories are spookily similar, then here is the story:
    A sightseeing DC-10 took off from Christchurch, headed for Antartica.
    They are set to loop around Mount Erebus (Near McMurdo station)
    Due to adverse weather conditions and incorrect map coordinates, the DC-10 slams into the mountain at high speed, killing all on board.
    Both the US and NZ governments launch body salvage operations.

    Pretty good video despite the bad narration. But what was with all of the fake snow drifting around the video clips? Maybe you can get away with that when the clip comes from Siberia or Antarctica, but since when does it snow in Namibia?

    On #5, Spreepark in Berlin, fast forward to the end of 2018 and the park remains abandoned aside from the guided tours of the amusement park. Just pointing it out since at the time of this video, there was rumor that it was going to be in restored 2018.

    Your information on the Pegasus air field is slightly wrong. There are 3 air strips operated at mcmurdo station. There is the summer ice strip which has no name other than mcmurdo station air strip. Then there is the snow runway called willy field the planes use ski's that go around the landing gear to land here (LC-130). Then there is the Pegasus airstrip which is on permanent ice and only used at the end of the summer season for people leaving to go home and last minute supplies as there aren't any flights to and from Antarctica during its winter months. The Pegasus airstrip is also an alternate runway for NASA. Been there and done that. Got my name on the side of that plane

    Regarding the ship breaking operation in Bangladesh: 100 ships per year times $1 million is $100 million. $3 a day times 200,000 workers times 300 days a year comes to $180 million dollars a year. This means that not only does this operation not make a profit, it loses $80 million dollars year. Of course all these numbers are estimates and in any of them changed, the whole equation would change. I suspect the owners are making a good profit, but on the other hand they are keeping 200,000 people employed, which has got to be worth something to the country.

      Chuck Pergiel So destroying the land and sea with carcinogenic sludge is ok. Plus he said they make a profit of one million not generate one million per ship. Everybody loves to haggle the announcer but never really listens. I truly wish it was either shut down or brought into some kind of at least minimal compliance for the ocean and worlds sake.

    Milk factory?? Really?? It's called a dairy.

    • @davidhenderson3400
      @davidhenderson3400 6 лет назад +2

      Hotrod
      A dairy and milk factory are not the same thing. A dairy milks cows and collects milk. I doubt that a single cow was at this milk factory. The name milk factory is a little miss leading. The more correct term would be milk processing plant. From what I understand canned milk and powdered milk was the main items processed at this plant.

    Hi World Unearthed there is another massive building here abandoned it's pretty close to Kingsford Smith airport at a suburb called Kurnell south of the airport amungst the sand dunes...... It is so creepy as it used to be a government testing site on everything including animals I was last there 10yrs ago and there was no talk of scrapping it and I'm sure it's still there but be warned it is VERY creepy. maybe check it out on google earth.... It's well worth going to see for yourself.
    Brett.
