Yay, thanks for this new tutorial. I'm watching your tutorials since i started Live 2D in 2016, basically learned it with you. It would be amazing if you worked full time on L2D, the quality of your work would be even more astonishing^^
I’m excited for this announcement. I’m like you in that I didn’t take the creation/illustration aspect seriously as other now popular artists as my life became too busy with school and my family would not approve of studying art. (Too bad because if they had I’d almost certainly have a better job than I do now..). My goal isn’t to be the main illustrative/concept creative force in a professional anymore but the prospect of learning live 2d further to deliver a product for a client/company sounds very exciting.
From the grudge tilt and the warped face and unmoving posture to the yandere eyes and absolutely adorable doggo/cat mouth this video was enjoyable to watch.
Great video to gain some insights into Live2D! I dont think i am 'late' to the race as im a student studying animation and from the overall experience ive had, i realized that i strive better at technical aspects (3d softwares) compared to creativity. Im slightly hesitant because I dont even know what i want to become in the future, but if there's an interest or curiousity its worth giving it a try than continue hesitating and achieve nothing.

If it were not because your videos I wouldn't become a Live2D creator as I stand today :D And you guys should know that the prospect of Live2D is exciting! Brian is right that we really have a shortage of Technical Live2D artist (especially those who communicate in English) while the demand is high. While I've been tackling Live2D for 3 years now I never feel like what I have done is enough, and I hope your new tutorial series will shed new light to unveil what the industry needs and expect from Live2D artists. I found your channel because I've wanted to get into learning how to create Live2D. Now I don't plan on making this my primary career but I want to take this as seriously as possible. I know how I am and if I don't go full send then I'll never be where I want with this. Artistically I think I'm pretty bad. Been trying to learn how to draw for the past 8 years but I just can't. In fact in freshman year of high school I wanted to be an animator... but that didn't happen. It's too demotivating. I have recently started going back to university so I feel this is a better time than ever to learn everything I wanted to. I also think this will down the line enhance my skills at giving deliverables since my primary skills is in system administration. I will be going through your tutorials.
Live2D can really help bring life to animations that simple tweening can't. It's so interesting to me, and, if done correctly, it looks absolutely beautiful.
aaah thank you for sharing this with us, your tutorial is really helpful, i'm be able to make one because of your tutorial, thank you very much for inspire me, i'll always looking forward for your content!
We are thinking about making a new project for ourselves with my friends and I just wanted to make really smooth not quiet 3d animations. So I am about to start learning live2d to use in our projects if possible ^-^ ♡ . Thank you so much for your videos!
This is really exciting! I know you say that time is of the essence but I still want to give it a try even though I can only commit to a part time job: I have a wonderful child I want to give as much time to, while keeping my freelancing going. I have done a few VN projects as a an artist, sometimes taking over from other artists and mimicking their style. I'd love to pick up another skill to make my income more secure while still being there for my little one in his first few years before he goes to school. Hopefully, even with these constraints I can take part!
since you're familiar with early childhood education, childbook and similar products has a high demand for animations, live2D can be a competitive option for children product companies. an option to consider.
Read the Live2D manual and learned it in an hour... I somehow made 3k in one month while still going to high school and then stopped when the exams started to flow in... every hobby can turn into profit if you're passionate enough
Interested about Live2D from 2 months ago, I decided to take arts major, I hope that later I can make my own Live2D design (yes, my own drawing and my own work), will definitely follow to keep up. Sadly I can't start now because I don't have good pc
I hope I can get good as you some day in this program :'D I'm good at drawing but I suck in technical part of live 2D (I tried about 2 times and failed miserably)😥 I absolutely need more time to study the program more - Btw. I love your tutorials and videos 😊
I'm aware that people learn live2D differently, some find my tutorials easy to follow, some dont. That's why the new tutorial program will include other experts to teach in their own style. Hope there'll be the best one for you
@@brian_tsui No don't worry, your tutorials are easy and understandable 👍 Its just me sometimes having meltdowns when I don't understand them quickly enough (i feel like a complete failure) :"D Thank you, I will take a look at them soon 🙌
This seems like something that will be taken care of by a tailored a.i. in the near future. I can also see this as a product having the potential to fall out of public favor. By that I mean whatever popularity it enjoys now, might not always exist. At any given time, it could happen that no one wants to use this style of animation any more. Personally, I would be very cautious about investing myself fully into learning a program which is well into the margin of being unsustainable. Just giving an honest opinion..
What would overtake the popularity of this kind of animation? People like Vtubers and I don't see why people would just suddenly stop liking them just because. The danger is only coming from AI taking over the job
@@smugfrog1041 I said nothing about some other thing coming along to overtake its popularity. And I didn't say anything about anything happening suddenly. The concerns I expressed only have to do with the natural, inevitable changes which are certain to take place. Less certain, are the timeframes within which these changes will occur. Technology is ephemeral. As is entertainment. Anything born from a conflux of the two should be expected to have a potentially exponential propensity to undergo change. Divide the rate at which technology advances by the frequency of the ebb and flow of public opinion, then multiply the result with the current market value of industry's demand. What you should find on the flipside of that equals sign, is validation of my concerns.. 😏
People who do these type of jobs have to always keep learning. There will always be new and more effective softwares and it’s important to always keep learning new skills. Just like artists, you can’t just stick to one medium forever unless you are a master of that field. Most people never stop learning.
How do I find a mentor? I’m ready to quit my job, driving 60 miles a day to-&-from work is bad. What do I need to do before a mentor will take me as a trainee or apprentice? What preparation must I have before the training?
14:00 You know something funny? I watched your original live2d tutorials. The one with the blonde girl with purple Eyes. Back then there wasn't this vtuber craze going around or anything. Live2D was just starting and I remember thinking "damn, this looks great, I should do this" so I watched and downloaded all of those tutorials but I just... shelved them. They are still on my HDD but I haven't done anything with them. That was 2016. My main excuse was "this looks great, now I learn to draw and I do this!!" I did try to learn to draw but... well tbh it didn't go anywhere. Now this, this is from 2019. I didn't watch it when it came out and considering the shitshow 2020 was well... I had the time to just get into it. Now, 2021 is here. What will I do today? Will I get to it this time? or I will shelve it again and regret on 2022? I can say rn I will get to it, lately I've been actually getting on shit I was interested in and I made such a great progress in them. Time will tell if this one becomes one of them. Let's see what the future holds or rather... what I take care of.
I'm very interested in learning this because I love this style of animation. I have not really decided where I want to go though. Bone driven animation with spine/dragonbones/blender or Live2d. Could you tell me what the big difference is for Live2D and why I should choose this over bone driven software? I guess it's more specialized? Is the workflow faster? Are there features that make it invaluable for this style?
The vtuber stuff is the main draw, live2d also has better art management than those bone driven programs (you can load in the psd without exporting all layers, and make adjustments to the psd and re-import it without losing progress)
They both have different use cases, and different techniques to complete similar end goals (there are no skeletons, but there are rotation deformers, theres no weight painting, but there is glue and proportional editing) There is mesh deformation, as well as deformers But spine can't make vtuber models, or load in psds with the same ease as live2d There are more differences, those are kinda off the top of my head
So specifically speaking of the type of artist you are brian, you are the Jack of All Trades type. To those wondering what I mean, the Jack of All Trades can do all kinds of things very well, but this type of artist is not a master of any one style (This is by no means bad.)
Live2d tutorials is what is missing around the internet i had to somehow learn by myself to do it although i know there is still tons of stuff i can do but i need tutorials.
I am literally a broke , unemployed, dropped out of graduation , lazyass bum who does nothing productive. I have basic photoshop and illustrator skill in the likes of graphics design work. I have way above average command over English. This video just gave me a blip of hope since I've always been interested in animation work . Consider me ur new student buddy. I have a question tho. The company works or professional works that u mention, are they available in regular freelancing marketplaces like upwork, Fiverr or do they have a entirely different separated marketplace or something like that? Hopefully u will answer this . Thanks for ur initiative btw
Regarding enterprise market, some studios do outsource to freelance, but there aren't a lot of companies outside of Japan looking for Live2D at the moment, simply because they haven't heard of it yet. Where as in Japan, if they do look for contractors / freelance, Japanese speaking is a must. Overall the international Live2D market is still very small, they wouldn't be using job posting websites, they'd be reaching out to social media directly. Atleast for now.
@Abrilla 2 M I normally don't engage with idiots since Einstein said it's impossible to win a argument with them. But seeing as ur so persistent and a sore loser urself , I can't help but wonder if u were raised in a broken family by a single mother with no proper identity as to who ur father is and ur mom doing unethical and questionable work just to look out for a sorry existence as urs. At least I have a full fleged family, their unwavering support and a family business to tend to. Hopefully u grow a brain in 2020 (I'm sure u won't) . Happy New year to you (not) . 😌
if one used this to animate a short story and uploads to random place and said story animation so happens to get attention and some studio or whatever buys the story would you be at fault of copywriter or breaking license agreement in using this program?
I was wondering as a Live2D artist, do you always get the illustration as a flat image or you get it with the layers and you just have to prepare it for importation?
It is up to the live2d designers to decide what will their pipeline and service be. For us Iron Vertex, we don't handle art PSD separation for most cases, because we believe the original artist doing that part can result the highest quality. For anyone else to replicate the original art style (brush strokes) is difficult. In the case where the client does not have the option to comm the original artist for handling that part, worst case with just a flat image, then we may offer an additional service to handle that part, for a separate price. For that reason we value long term relationship with artist whom worked with us before and knows well how we need the parts separated. Yueko, Rosuuri, Ahniki, BSApricot, Saruei, Expulse, Softmode, Bison Ham, Nia, etc. Some live2d designers are also pro artists themselves, such as Enma and Cetra, they are able to complete design, draw, and rig, the full package, which would be ideal.
@@brian_tsui okay I understand now thanks, I've been trying the psd handling part and I am having troubles there so I wondered if it is actually part of the job. Thanks for the clarification
Hi brian, its been a long time since im on hiatus from live2d, and now i want to learn it again for some sidejob beside my real life work. I want to ask, the income you mentioned, is it for the full work (drawing + rigging), or rigging only? And may i ask if 2 week to finish work is slow for beginner? (working around 1-2 hour per day, except week end, 3-4 hours)
the income i mentioned was just in rigging, with the assumption that the client provides a PSD that is atleast 90% ready for Live2D, you may need to touch up some bits yourself or assist the artist to work on those bits. 2 Weeks from start to first submission is not a problem for most clients, considering nowadays clients spend more time waiting in the queue. But buffer time for back and forth adjustments after your first submission, maybe 3~10 times until final acceptance. Long as you let your clients know your ETA, and be aware your client's absolute deadline (debut date), then it should be ok.
I'm interested in getting involved in the industry(gaming\art) but I don't even know how to get in contact with related field or what is needed to get in
Ugh.... I need help!! Still in pre-U, should I go with engineering or art (illustrator and live2d) as a career? It's getting harder and harder to choose because both are my interests. I prefer art over engineering, should I go with that....?
I don't, all along i knew i couldn't commit to expectations if i had a patreon, and i dont want to take supporters' money that way. But if one day i do setup a streamer life with a schedule to deliver works, then i'd open a patreon
Before I click on the video: Oh that looks cool I wanna do that

I'm so excited!!!! I've been trying to learn for about a year and you've been the best resource!
aaah thank you for sharing this with us, your tutorial is really helpful, i'm be able to make one because of your tutorial, thank you very much for inspire me, i'll always looking forward for your content!
That looks like an interesting job/hobby to have.. :0°
thank you!! not just for the tutorial but for the inspiration :)
im so grateful for this
We are thinking about making a new project for ourselves with my friends and I just wanted to make really smooth not quiet 3d animations. So I am about to start learning live2d to use in our projects if possible ^-^ ♡ . Thank you so much for your videos!
Ahh this will be a good tutorial for me to follow in the future!
@@brian_tsui I didn't think of that! Definitely worth trying. Ta!
I just got into live2d and I bet this tutorial will help me big time!!
Thanks for this!
I have ready and was able to work with famous artist , Thank Brian~
Veiny is it you
Theres not enough battleship videos to be sure
Bruh the part about making art and not having dedication during teenage years is too relatable.
You're absolutely the best, thank you so much. You motivated me so much.
This is what I waiting for man.... Thank u.
2 times? And got u down? Didn't tried enough..
I'm aware that people learn live2D differently, some find my tutorials easy to follow, some dont. That's why the new tutorial program will include other experts to teach in their own style. Hope there'll be the best one for you
@@marcelocandioto785 Yes, you are absolutely right ..
I was going through some bad times when I tried but I will continue to try it soon again
@@brian_tsui No don't worry, your tutorials are easy and understandable 👍 Its just me sometimes having meltdowns when I don't understand them quickly enough (i feel like a complete failure) :"D
Thank you, I will take a look at them soon 🙌
Super interested can't wait to see
can't wait !!!
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm mostly aiming for an animation movie rather than single illustration.
Sounds amazing, keep it up!
Omg thank you. Im looking for tutorials for live2d.
Oh, Goddess! Great thanks for this infomation. Very useful and
very motivating. Whating ur cool tutors. Ganbatte ^^
is it weird that when i the first voice comes in, i thought i t was a girl, but then suddenly changed the voice tone into a male
Hard work will always beat talent
Keep up , am looking forward to it !!
How do I find a mentor? I’m ready to quit my job, driving 60 miles a day to-&-from work is bad.
What do I need to do before a mentor will take me as a trainee or apprentice? What preparation must I have before the training?
Much like another person in comments, I'm going to be leaving this comment here as the beginning marker of my zero to hero journey in L2D.
I really wanna try live2d. It looks so interesting.
Imagine if we have a textbook about what you talk about
And get to learn it at school
Ah~ slirp I like it.

You know something funny?
11:38 very insightful
what about Live2D vs 3D modeling?
ahh finally found some nice toturiol start on live 2D just as i wanted yushhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
i really wanted to see the finished product...
Thnx For tutorial Its very helpful^^
您说得太实在了!路转粉!
Thanks for the video. How is Live2D compared to Spine?
They both have different use cases, and different techniques to complete similar end goals (there are no skeletons, but there are rotation deformers, theres no weight painting, but there is glue and proportional editing)
There is mesh deformation, as well as deformers
But spine can't make vtuber models, or load in psds with the same ease as live2d
There are more differences, those are kinda off the top of my head
Part of the reason why I hope to make Iron Vertex as a main hub for international live2D experts, so that company jobs can hire through our network.
@@brian_tsui understood. Thanks man 👍
@Abrilla 2 M That wasn't nice now, was it
@Abrilla 2 M I normally don't engage with idiots since Einstein said it's impossible to win a argument with them.
I want to have one too ...i will pay it
"My works are not super amazing" Your bao live2d would beg to differ
This looks so hard, I mean VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY hard, I feel bad for your hands qwq
@@brian_tsui I see thank you! It answered many thing in my head. Maybe i will just start practising again slowly for now.
Brian老师真的好谦虚(;ω;) 会把您当做目标努力学习的
I'm interested in getting involved in the industry(gaming\art) but I don't even know how to get in contact with related field or what is needed to get in
I have this Live2D tool but I don't know how to use it XD maybe I need to learn sketch first before I gonna focus to this Live2D
Ugh.... I need help!!
Still in pre-U, should I go with engineering or art (illustrator and live2d) as a career?
It's getting harder and harder to choose because both are my interests. I prefer art over engineering, should I go with that....?
Art can be a volatile career, if you enjoy both I'd recommend pursuing the engineering and art as your hobby, or side study
*the future is here*
Y’all got a patreon?
If soo lemme in on it
I don't, all along i knew i couldn't commit to expectations if i had a patreon, and i dont want to take supporters' money that way. But if one day i do setup a streamer life with a schedule to deliver works, then i'd open a patreon
thank you for the consideration though!
No problem xd
I just wanted to support you
