I seriously thought this was a recent video made by someone trying to cash in on how to make vtuber avatars or something. Then I looked at the date and was mindly blown away.
I'd say that it's because Vtuber phenomenon exploded during this year's quarantine so every new RUclipsr and their mother is like: "Huh, let me try that too." So they start searching and naturally, this video from 4 years ago comes up. RUclips algorithm is then: "Hey, this video is very popular for some reason. Let me recommend it."
This is neat and pretty innovative, however most vtubers are using other tools that use their webcam to track their real face instead of following their mouse cursor. In fact I think you can download it on steam or you can buy live2D

I'd have to correct this bit: do look into FaceRig with Live2D, but this demo in particular is using Live2D Viewer 2.1, released by the official. It offers voice lip-sync, but it does not do motion tracking. The model in the video is only moving because it is looping a set of expressions in random order.
People in the comment section complaining about the male voice on a fictional character while I'm just sitting here thinking "I seen and heard way worse things in actual animes"

i know what u mean, there is advantage in replicating the original art style. but in my experiment i notice that it also becomes demanding in making those 8 directions of the face. on top of making the perspectives right, it needs to look like the original art, thats advance level.
This could be extremedly usefull for independent visual novels. I mean, I still cool with animating it frame by frame but even then you got a ton of usefull tips to speed up the animation process

@MrAsap2000as that's depends on the quality of their avatar. Most of them open them the same way. Also, it seems, tracking is not perfect, since very often avatar misses some face movement, like, not opening mouth when person talks.
