- In this video I show you how to play the entire song Rip It Out by Ace Freely, including the guitar solo. We also take a look at how to play Speeding' Back To My Baby, Snow Blind and What's On Your Mind. These are some of my favorite tracks from Ace Frrehley's solo album from 1978. In most KISS fans opinions, this was the best solo album from 1978 when KISS released individual solo albums from each member. It really showcases Ace at his finest and to this day, this album holds up as a timeless classic. Produced by Eddie Kramer, this albums has some fantastic guitar tones as well as drums performed by Anton Fig. I hope you enjoy the video. Please subscribe!

Snow Blind is a masterpiece. I saw him play it live 4 times. Since 2009
Out of all 4 of the KISS solo albums, Ace’s was by far the best and most comprehensive album.
Yeh for sure. No bloat or BS!
The good songs on Ace’s album were Rip It Out and NYG, which I don’t even like that much and which he did not even write. Speed in’ Back is good music but fails as a complete song due to horrible, horrible lyrics.
Paul’s album is the most Kiss-like (because he is mostly Kiss) and has stronger songs and way better vocals. Admittedly, I don’t care for Hold Me, Touch me and Love in Chains, but the rest of the songs are very good.
I LOVE Rip It Out and Tonight You Belong To Me. Let’s say they cancel each other out. The rest of Ace’s songs suck as songs. Paul’s has way better songs. Take Me Away (Together As One) is just as good as Rip It Out and Take me Away, and Ace has nothing close to as good.
Not to mention, Ace can just barely sing. His guitar playing, songwriting, and singing peaked on this 1978 album. He has gone down steadily since then.
@@Dr.Jekyll cool man. I totally value everyone's perspective. I like Paul's album ok. I think Ace's is far better. I relistened to Paul's two days ago. The production is kinda bad IMO. And there are some clunkers on there. Move on. Hold me touch me. Love In chains. It's a cool album and captures Paul's vision well. I gravitate toward the spaceman. Yeh ... he has slid pretty far down over the years. Admittedly so. Having said that, Paul is KISS and kept the band going. He is by far the most prolific and talented of the bunch.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker I’m not that big a fan of Love On, either. I think it’s good, but but not great. And I agree about the production point you bring up. I wish Eddie Kramer was able to produce all of them, but that was impossible in the time frame.
2 quick questions for you, Marty. What part of upstate? And do you still like the silver PS160 you bought?
Agreed!
The more I see that black dividing line in the body, the cooler it gets! That was a genius addition.
Awe thanks! I was really sweating it when I did it lol. I agree, it fits well. The black knobs and pick guard tie it all in I think!
@@Ranch5150SkinWalkerthats probably the best looking pink guitar ive ever seen
@@neonknight-1522 thanks 🙏 😎
Please break Down Strange Ways Solo!!It was always a Blizzard in Aces world in the 70s😂
Stunning tone from that stunning guitar Marty...... My hero as a kid. Its not about technicality, its about feel and groove and Ace still has it by the ton. This album is an all time classic and must-have for kids getting into rock. So many of the mega players who came along in later years rate Ace as their main inspiration whos relatively simple playing gave them the confidence to crank it up. If you couple Aces playing with the similarly simplistic playing of Iommi you have a hell of a great grounding to be a fine rock and metal player. ...
Thanks man! I appreciate that. Ace is 75% attitude and rock b roll and 25% technique. And that's the way we like it. He really embodies the electric guitar. And you're right, so many players attribute him as the reason for playing guitar. He's the man!
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker I replied in another post about doing a few Kiss lessons over a few week. Yes, Ace was a big inspiration to many a guitar players. Most of the players that were influenced did move on to big bands. Goes to show you what dressing up in what some people would say silly make up and costumes and playing a guitar does to people.
Yes; the reason I picked up the guitar! Ace is my main influence! Ace isn’t in the ball park of Jimi or Eddie, but he made it where guys like me could say Hey, I can play like him☺️! Thank you bunches for posting!
Very true! Ace was assessable and we could play it. But damn... none of us could look that cool on stage. He sure had the look down!!!
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker ikr 🤪🤘🏼
Great video. You are getting a killer tone out of that guitar/amp. Sounds really good.
Thanks so much man!!😎
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker you’re welcome. I have those solo albums on cassette. Well, not exactly… I have the best of… solo albums on cassette. It is probably pretty rare. Paul Stanley is the one I seemed to enjoy the most back then.
That guitar you built looks so damn good. Man it turned out great. And it sounds great too. Thanks for the ACE tutorial. Love the channel and appreciate your time sir.
Thanks so much. I really love this guitar. It came together so well, I was kinda shocked. Hahah. I appreciate you for checking out the stuff man. 😎🎵🎵🎵🎵🥂
Good work. My fave guitarist was Ace. Had to have a sunburst LP. He was so pretty back then too. You would not even guess it was him today. Saw KISS twice, once in NJ Roosevelt Stadium which is no more now the Destroyer tour and at the Garden.
That guitar really turned out awesome love the color its unbelievable !
Thanks so much! 😁
Not a big Kiss fan, never was a member of the Kiss army, but damn! That guitar is the sweetest looking kit guitar I have ever seen! So better than '80s. Awesome job, great hardware choices!
Thank you Dot! I'm. It a diehard KISS fan either but I enjoy a lot of the songs. And Ace was my gateway to rock n roll at a very early age. My sister in law bought me his record for Christmas in 1978! I was so impressionable.
I couldn't be happier with how this guitar turned out. And TNTones sent me some killer pickups... they are bad ass. 🤟🏻😎
I got the Ace record when I was 15 or 16. I pretty much learned every song on that album. The BEST out of all 4 members as you well know , lol.
PS: Nice breakdown Marty !!!! Cheers brother !!!
Awesome video! I love all of Ace's material. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks! Will do! 😎
Custom build pinky LP right there baby!!!!
I love it man!! It's really a killer guitar 🤟🏻😎🤟🏻
Rip it Out, from the start, you got it now.... from The Start❤❤❤❤❤❤
My 1st rock record I picked out that my mom bought me in the late 70's. 2nd grade maybe. New York groove was my jam. Thank you Marty! Btw, snowblind by Sabbath wasn't about actually snow 😅
Hell yes, do Paul Stanley’s ‘78 and ‘06 solo albums! There is so little about his ‘06 album. Also, perhaps some stuff from Sonic Boom and Monster would be great……
I need to familiarize myself with more of that stuff. Heard it's good!
Thanks for another great lesson Marty ! I still have that album in 8 track in the sleeve/box from my young days of collecting all and anything KISS. Didn't even have an 8 track player. Still don't. Oh well!
Sounds like me. I have a Boston 8 track lol. No player. KISS are fun to collect stuff from.
@Marty5150 I had about 3 sets of the Majik Mart cups with the individual faces on them. Also plastic bags with the faces. Probably should have held on to that stuff.
I definitely would love to see a full lesson for Speeding Back To My Baby!!
I pretty much covered it all... but that solo is backwards tape I believe. I was checking it out and it sure sounds like it. 😎
Kickass as always. Thanks dude
You bet!
Rip It Out was the greatest track...loved the whole record...and he had the BEST Solo album outta all of the 4❤ to buy.
Rocket Ride…please. 🤟🏻. Excellent lessons…as always. Thank you!!
Good one! Maybe I should do an Ace only KISS selections video.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker please!!

@@guitarist22lespaul90 you're welcome! I know he appreciates the thoughts and I let him know when people check in on him. It brightens his day.
Awesome work on that guitar! I am having a blast with your videos. The 80's riff video was great. I jammed along to that video till past midnight! It's not enough to just play the chords, you have to have the groove, nobody does it like you. 🎉
Thanks and You're so welcome .... I am so happy to hear that. Thanks again. I hope to keep putting out stuff everyone enjoys.
Your new build looks great! 👍
Thanks so much man! I appreciate it. 😁
Thanks for sharing! Awesome!
Thanks for watching!
Ace all day!!!!!!!!
I been a Kiss fan since 1976 and huge Ace Fan. Cool video😁👍
Thanks dude. They were game changers man. A big influence of mine too.
… by the way, the pink guitar build looks and sounds fantastic!
Thanks man!!! 😎
Ace and Tony Iommi are the riffmasters!
Good to see you're playing your new custom build. Thanks for the great lessons. Peace
You're very welcome. I am very happy with it. It's plays and sounds really nice 😎
Thank you so much for putting the chord shapes on screen! I’m a beginner guitarist, so it’s a huge help! Great playing, too!
Nice content! I think Paul Stanley had a great solo album - I think that would be a cool one if you have the time 🤘
Yeh I agree. Paul had a good one too. I gotta cover some stuff on that!
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker Maybe for a few weeks doing a handful of Kiss klassics
Thanks again Marty really appreciate the old school rock music BTW kiss destroyer album was my first at age 8 omg that a long time ago. Keep up the great job 🤘🤘🤘
Dude you're welcome. Time really flies by. Kinda crazy!!
Thanks Marty this is a really cool lesson, I really appreciate your easy going teaching style. And man, Your tone is fantastic.
Have you had a listen to Ace's new album yet?
excellent. thanks for the lesson .. got a new song on my list now
You're very welcome ! 😎🤟🏻
Thanks especially for speeding back to my baby. Spot on!!
Keep up the great work really appreciate your You Tube channel thanks again Marty looking forward to the next one
Thank you Mark!! I appreciate the support dude 😎🤟🏻
Very cool clip Marty. Ace Rules. .. just an FYI though. During chorus of 'Rip it out' after the C.. he goes G - F# - G. Instead of three G's.. if ya listen closely to the original, you'll hear it.
Kit turned out bitchin ,sounds amazing
Thank you dude. I'm super happy with it!!
Enjoyed this video..👍
Ace Fray-Lee, lead gee-tar!
Yes indeed! 🤟🏻😎🤟🏻
Great stuff!
❤❤❤ I love it ❤❤❤Mega cool Sound that's fat!!! 👋👋👋🎸👍
Nice ! Thanks
I never heard any Kiss song past that MTV Unplugged album_ IMO that was the last Kiss album
I would definitely say do aces solo and Paul’s, nice video and the guitar turned out sweet
Thanks man! So ... skip when you wish upon a star from the Gene album. Got it!! 🤣
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker haha I would just say skip peters album
@@i5150v1 poor Peter gets so much hate over that album 😂
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker he does, unfortunately well deserved haha
Please break Down Strange Ways Solo!!
Excellent. Thank you. Could you go through the solo for Detroit Rock City? Ace and Paul's part?
You're in luck! ruclips.net/video/o6zOs9G0KTg/видео.html
I’d love a lesson on any song from Creatures of the Night.
GREAT albums and suggestion 😎🤟🏻
I'm new to your channel and I can't t get enough. Would love to know the effects your using. You have a great sound.
Dude. So happy to hear! Glad to have ya and hope to keep putting out stuff everyone likes. Thanks so much!!
Killer !!! Love Ace!!!What amp are ya using for rip it out!?🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
❤ACE❤
Could you give us the amp settings for Ace's tone that you have used in the video?
Ace got me started but when Eddie Van Halen hit the scene .... , still Love Ace and his leads which I'm closer too . Playing like Ed is like trying to shove a square block into a circular hole , thats just me .
The greatest song written by KISS is "Heaven's on FIre." All their older stuff pales in comparison to this masterpiece. How the video did not win multiple awards is beyond me. Lyrical content would rival a Samuel Taylor Cooleridge poem.
I might try to listen to some Ace Frehley solo stuff.
Gene SImmons has destroyed my love of Kiss.
That being said......guitar looks awesome. Color really grows on you.
I dig it! I need to do some more KISS stuff
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Desmond Child wrote that, or at least co-wrote it
Great sound. What amp are you using and what settings do you use to get that sound?
Nice sounding delay!
Thanks 🙏
Your amp sounds great. Is it a Mesa?
Nope! I actually run (for RUclips) a fractal ax8 in stereo with a Friedman patch and Ir's. 😎🤟🏻
Fractured mirror
Sure do some paul Stanley solo from 1978
cant tell what you're doing in the beginning there are those power chords?
How about Mr Speed from RNRO
How about a Thin Lizzy tune ...........
Yes! You read my mind. 😎
There are parts you are doing that aren't right man. When he does the c sharp, he only hits the c sharp with the index finger, the ring finger stay on the a from the D chord. At the end of the riff where it slides to the b it doesnt do that last thing you are doing with the b it just slides from the a to be both times, on the chorus it doesn't stay on the g, he moves the index finger from F sharp to g while keeping his ring finger on the c from the g chord- kind of like the c sharp situation
Rip it Out is a cover song
Less talk more playing
Ace as a chick? Come on man.
But Ace was a damn fine looking man back in the day.
* breaks beer bottle *
And I'll fight any man who don't agree!!
I was 8 😂
a 6 year old can play this song. Ace as a character is cool but as guitarist this is all 5 years guitar maybe less
