There’s a Japanese law that states, paraphrased: “If a video game has a clock tower, and the clock tower music theme is not an ‘ultra banger’, the publisher will be fined 500,000 yen and the composer shall be jailed for up to one year”
Ngl I feel like the Oath in Felghana version fits the best. I just love how they arranged the track to be more melancholy but still have that signature high energy Ys vibe in full force. But the PC Engine version is just straight up rad. As in, it feels like the definition of awesome back when rad was a word in common usage, lol. Idk, just gotta love that late 80s early 90s vibe the PCE version gives out. I really like how hardcore it sounds.
That was actually the first version I'd heard since a friend of mine introduced me to the series. Going back and listening to all the different versions of this song, however, made the eargasm of the PC/PSP version all the sweeter.
It's pretty crazy. I just finished The Oath in Felghana, the PSP version, recently and found it to have a fantastic soundtrack. I didn't realize the game was one practically every late 80s/early 90s platform ever conceived though, and the PS2. Interesting to hear the differences.
***** That would have been awesome. But unfortunately, the PC Engine version wasn't made by Falcom, so they have no rights over using stuff from that version like they do with the X68000 version.
I personally think the application of the sound hardware is more important than the specifics of the hardware itself - especially concerning two sound chips from the same generation. The SFC version doesn't suck because the hardware was bad, it sucked because the arrangement itself is bad. Hand it over to a competent arranger and it'll sound on par if not better than the Mega Drive version.
SNES (I'm trying real hard not to be bias but those chords are wicked for example 6:54 is missing on all of the other samples) > PC/PSP > NEC PC-88 & PC Engine tie. Somebody saying the MegaDrive sounds better than the SNES I hear it but nah because the Trumpets are missing and that's a deal breaker to me. I have no idea what happened in that PS2 version it is terrible.

I like it as well, the pitch bends are _perfect_ and the brass sounds nice as well. The reason it gets so much hate is the fact that some of the audio samples are quite poor. Just imagine if the PC Engine one had the extra twists of the SNES one...

0:00 = NEC PC-88
0:55 = MSX2
1:51 = Sharp X68000
2:47 = PC Engine
5:36 = Famicom (NES)
6:24 = Super Famicom (SNES)
7:16 = MegaDrive (Genesis)
8:12 = Playstation 2
9:10 = PC/PSP
Why isn't this pinned yet--
The music for the PC Engine of the classic Ys games are really awesome to listen to because I love the energy to them that fits the tone of the games.

PC Engine version captured the essence of 90's anime music so well that made me wonder if PC/PSP version is still my favorite #1 😲?!
The PC Engine has a really good ost!!
totally agree with you
SNES is near and dear to my heart. And I believe it's the only one that has the phrase at 6:55 and so forth
PC/PSP
That was actually the first version I'd heard since a friend of mine introduced me to the series. Going back and listening to all the different versions of this song, however, made the eargasm of the PC/PSP version all the sweeter.
There's no doubt about it: the PC-88 and Sega Mega Drive versions are FUCKING AWESOME. Raw FM power at it's best!
+infinitecanadian Holy $hit, I had no idea the genesis version was that good.
Matt Black
Gotta love the Yamaha sound chip!
Damn, the Genesis version is fucking incredible.
The MSX version sounds better than I expected with the bass and percussion sharing a single channel in a creative way :)
Again I think the PC-Engine in 1991 is the best.
Red88Rex me to
That jump from PS2 to PSP/PC

the ps2 sounds like a nes compared with the pc version

+Ark Hung Wow yeah, jumpin' on the bandwagon here...it sounds like this stereophonic trance/metal/orchestral extravaganza!!!
Genesis Does what Nintendon't

Megadrive rules!
will i get hated if i say that i like more this clock tower music than castlevania's?
+IKAGURA96
no but it might get you kicked in to a lava pit.
+Icare Long time Castlevania fan here, I don't blame ya
KaZ Neosis
Thanks ^^ both themes are great!
Nope... as long as you the one in Castlevania as well. ;)
El mejor Soundtrack del universo :'D
I like the x68000 version the most
still sounds the best on turbo duo/ PC engine duo
Yo Chalk! Can you make a video comparison of The Theme of Chester?
PC/PSP blows all other versions out of the equation even though how good all they sound.
I suscribe your channel. Like
all awesome!, however pc/psp is my personal favorite
The psp version of sealed time is the best

Snes super famicom is the best version.
I am the only person who loves the SNES version... right? :/
I like it as well, the pitch bends are _perfect_ and the brass sounds nice as well. The reason it gets so much hate is the fact that some of the audio samples are quite poor. Just imagine if the PC Engine one had the extra twists of the SNES one...
IMHO, PC Engine > PC > SNES > Megadrive > X68000 > all the others >> NES.
The Mega Drive comparison is too slow; the real version is faster.
The SNES version gave my ears stage 4 cancer.
You are lucky. I got terminal 7
:/
Hm i would say NES
SNES has the best arrangement, despite its inferior instrumentation.
clearly pc engine handed everyone there asses.
pce가 갑이지.
