  • I couldn't find a good video on replacing worn bar studs on RUclips, so I made one that hopefully will help others. This will also work on the 365, 385xp and 390xp saws.

A spot of white paint on one side of the bolt would help index the bolt properly. I learned that building and racing snowmobiles. We used special shimming washers and marked the plugs so the electrodes always directed the flame in one direction. This would give you just that much more performance from an engine. You could do the same here, put a spot on the same side as the flats of the bolt. That way you do not have to look in the tank.

This also works on the Husky 350... I am so happy I found this video...saved me a lot of time having to pull the clutch and get into oil reservoir... great idea with the fish line, it is small enough to go between the threads and allow you to pull bolt through opening... Thanks a Lot!!!!!

My bar stud fell into the oil reservoir when I took the nut off the stud to move the bar. Not sure what actually holds the stud in place other than friction. Thank you for your video.

I would suggest putting some Loctite on the stud to make sure it doesn't fall out and also putting a chisel on the stud and giving it several small hits to make it more secure before putting the Loctite on the bolt.

some long forceps would probably be ideal if you have to do it with the bolts already out

Thanks mate. I was about to do damage so lucky your on the matrix for a download. Why do you have 10 dislikes? You certainly dont deserve them. Must be a "woke" thing, cruelty to chainsaws, maybe you made it look to easy, maybe you should have said sorry before taking to it with the hammer? Thanks to you now I know. Have a like.

Yes but what holds the stud in place and keeps it from falling out?

There's a pocket it "presses" into.

Do you know if the echo cs 400 is done the same way through the oil tank?

Are the bar studs different lengths? The front one looks longer and they have different part numbers.

      Same length, same part number.

I have a small oil leak in the saw 372 xp when it stands under the saw and when I unscrew the oil filler, I can hear a hiss of air what can it be?
