  • In this video, I will show how to package wood signs for shipping. This is also a very cost effective way to ship that will also ensure that your customer will get their sign safely. In this video I will package up a variety of sized signs (including framed wood signs). I've been selling wood signs on Etsy for a few years, and have been shipping this way and it has proven to be a safe, effective way to ship. If you are tired of spending so much money on custom size boxes, check out this video! Hope this helps!

    Man, your Post office/shipper must be so kind with your packages. I use cardboard corners for art, wrap 12X's in bubble wrap, 2X's in brown paper and the post office still manages to damage my signs! Yes, mine are 100% all wood frame & board- super sturdy. I do ship about 1000 a year, but I just can't imagine how the framed signs don't get damaged by the post office.

    Have you considered using the free 1095, 1092, or 1097 free usps boxes for your signs? You can frankenbox 2 together to give you a longer length. Same for any other usps box EXCEPT flat rate of regional, you cannot change these dimensions.

    Thanks for the information. Really cool how you wrap them in paper. I was hoping you might break down the actual cost. Is it cheaper to send the smaller signs in the USPS box rather than wrapping it? Also, does your mail carrier pick these up from your home or do you bring them to the post office?

    • @SimplySallie
      @SimplySallie  4 года назад +3

      You are welcome! I should have included this information! So, the reason I ship as much as I can in the box from USPS is because they are free. It also saves a little bit of time rather than using the brown paper. The cost of shipping either way is the same amount regardless. I should also mention that I use the regular priority mail boxes, not the flat rate. The brown contractor paper costs me about $11 bucks for a large roll at Lowes, so it is fairly cheap to buy this and package things up this way too. I usually just take everything to the post office since I live close to our local branch, although we are moving so I will be doing USPS pickup soon! If I ship multiple signs or larger signs I use UPS or FEDEX. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks so much for this video! I'm just getting started with sign making, and shipping has really stumped me. Is your method less expensive than shipping in the flat rate boxes? And, if your shipping cost varies, what do you list as your shipping price on etsy?

    • @SimplySallie
      @SimplySallie  4 года назад +3

      I have never used flat rate because of the size restrictions, and my shipping is generally under $10 for signs. If there is a large order or if its going pretty far then it can be more. I figure up my shipping price included in the entire cost of product so shipping is "free". This is highly recommended by etsy, so they push it to their sellers to do this!

      @@SimplySallie so to ship that wood sign ina priority mail box is less tben ten dollars I thought it’d be way more then that. So shipping them in the paper rather then the box which is also not priority must be a lot less cheaper right I’d assume wow. That’s cheap seeing all I was sending was a decal a week or so ago and the guy told me four dollars and change. I almost died like dude that’s gotta be wrong lol. He said since I am shipping in one of those colorful plastic like shipping bags and it’s not a regular paper envelope or made from paper tbat type of bag costs more. I e never ever heard of tbat ever. I used to ship off PayPal. Etsy shipping has been so hard for me. Like why if I’m just shipping a decal in an envelope so I need the give length width and height. Height. Really ? Idk the height lol it’s only an envelope what the hey. That site is so annoying. PayPal all o did was weight them item snd a probe came up it never ask dimensions etc lol errgh. But if I not sending an invoice to tnem for them to pay them I can’t ship through PayPal I guess That’s how o used to sell on Facebook I’d send them an invoice to pay through PayPal and they have a thing after the pay with the business account to clock shop and print labels

    So I just tried to ship a large sign using contractor paper however UPS wouldn’t accept it. I make some sales outside of Etsy. Just wondering what carrier you use. This was also a pretty big sign about 2ft x 3ft. Is USPS better for this kind of method?

    I just recently started an etsy shop and I take all of my signs and stuff to my local post office and get them to package and ship for me, but that costs a good bit. How do you get your boxes for free? and how do you print the shipping labels off with that thermal printer?

      I believe you can order them on usps website for your mail person to drop them off during their deliveries. Or just ask your post office. Unless things have changed since I last shipped🤔

    • @SimplySallie

      Thank you so much! I actually just bubble wrap each sign really well and cut cardboard to size to make a sheet and place this in between each sign and on the top and bottom. Tape really well and use brown paper. If the signs are extremely different sizes I would probably just find a box or ship in two shipments, whichever is cheapest. It honestly varies but the top is what I do mostly because it is the cheapest and arrives safely!

      So sorry I'm just now seeing this! The labels are auto created when you ship an order. Super easy on etsy! Other websites do the same, you just enter the customer name and address and the label is created. You make sure the label is set to your printer size and you're good to go!

    Thanks, Sallie for such a great video!! You have helped us so much to get started in shipping signs! What is the size of the contractor paper? My husband does our shopping since I became disabled a few years ago-- plus he's much faster than II am!! Anyway, the more info I can give him to find what I'm looking for the better chance that he buys the right item!! :) Do you happen to have a picture of the front label? That would even be better! If not, no problem, I just thought I'd ask!!
    Thanks again for your fantastic videos!!

    What is average price you pay for 12x12 sign and a 10x24 we will say to newyork from west coast? I have an account with stamps, what do you put in as for shipping with contact paper since its not a bag or box?

    • @SimplySallie
      @SimplySallie  4 года назад

      It honestly depends, I ship from SC so my prices would be different, although it varies from $8+ on my end. I input it as "package or envelope with own dimensions" and then put the dimensions and weight. Hope this helps!
